FYI, The US model (e70-2) does not come with a miniSD card at all.
So smartblond, you aren't missing anything.

harryc - Thank you!
Great idea, took me 5 minutes and it worked. Yes, it was the WIDCOMM (unsigned!) driver :)
The OS on the E70 looks and feels fine, I was using some 2003 Windows Mobile on HP PocketPC before and Symbian just beats it, it seems even faster(!) And now with Skype for Symbian coming soon... fantastic.
smartblond - Yes, your phone will work just fine without the card. However, I strongly recommend buying one - at least 1GB, to actually enjoy the phone's RICH features. The one from the box was only 64MB, I didn't even touch it :) I can sell it to you for 5 bucks :D, that's all it's worth.
So don't cry, go buy!
KZ - the reception is in fact a bit poorer then on my old 6310i, but that would not be the reason to get rid of it.
BTW, THAT was a classic Mercedes Benz of the mobiles.... :) Remember 7-days or more between charges?

I just bought this phone from buy.com and it was missing the mini SD card. Is it still possible to make this phone work or do I have to return it.

Hey Hoob, sounds like you might have an issue that I just had with my T-Mobile Dash. My problem was that I had HP/Windcomm bluetooth drivers as that was my OEM drivers. I uninstalled them and rebooted. Let XP find the microsoft bluetooth stack drivers. I turned on bluetooth on both PC and mobile and made sure to not have either setup with the other. Created a virtual COM port and paired the devices while they were both discoverable. Took me about 2 days to get it all worked out but when i think of it now I should have tried that from the start. Hope it saves you time and works the same way with your phone.

KZ,
My reception was so poor, I sold the phone. I would be in a building where everybody else was getting good reception and I was getting nothing.

Barry - fantastic tip!
Ctrl+C Ctrl+X Ctrl+V all work in all the apps I use, including sheets, docs editor, notes and email. To highlight the part of the text you want to copy/cut just hold the shift key while scrolling the cursor (joystick). Very intuitive.
Haven't solved my problem with Bluetooth sync yet. Help?

Hey, RX! Thanks for the comments. I tried again this afternoon to connect to my router and it connected! It's great -- good display of the page and relatively fast! But it seems to automatically close the browser after you've browsed a couple pages. I think it may be due to the problems others have mentioned below.
I'm not sure about its official release date here in S'pore. I purchased it through an official channel and CNet Asia had a review of it, mentioning that it had been released. Do you have info otherwise?

Has anyone here noticed poor reception on the e70? Personally, I have a number of cellular devices and outdoors, they are all fine. Indoors, the other phones all have reception (albeit less than outdoors), but the e70 has NO reception whatsoever. It leaves me with absolutely NO chance of using this phone at home or office!
Also, the menu button on the qwerty keyboard does not work (I tried to re-install the firmware that was already "up to date" - but this did not help at all!).
Any help/ideas would be great.
Thanks!

Hello to every happy user of E70 :)
The unit is fantastic, although the new firmware is a MUST! No problems with rotating screen delay or contact sorting.
Question though, I can't connect/sync with my PC using Bluetooth. USB works, IR works. I've been playing with it for a couple of days now. Any thoughts?

I am using D-Link Wireless Router DI-624 for my home wireless network. Connect using E70 easily without any further setup. Just go to Web, search for LAN and select what is detected. Very simple. Web browsing is satisfactory except for memory limitation after accessing several pages. Hope Nokia can solve this in future firmware upgrade.

to Ma Kexiu, for the wifi, remember to set to 64/128 bit according to your env. And maybe you want to input the network key in hexadecimal, not in ascii? Try to set to hexadecimal in the menu. And if still not working, try using static IP, not DHCP.
btw, i think E70 is not officially released in sg?

Effective today, I'm a proud new owner of the E70 here in Singapore. Based upon my 6 hours or so with the phone, here's my thoughts.
Pros: The size is just nice. Not too big for the front pocket of your blue-jeans. Won't create an unsightly or uncomfortable bulge...unless you're Axl Rose in skin-tight leather trousers. The phone is rather attractive (I have the silver model.) The screen is large and colors are crystal clearn. The phone keypad is large enough for big fingers to easily type out an SMS. When the phone is unfolded, it's easy to type out longer messages, eg emails, but the keyboard takes some acclimation. Nokia's PC Suite flawlessly sync'ed with my IBM Thinkpad and MS Outlook through the provided cable. The ambient light meter seems to work accurately.
Cons: The fold out keyboard does really take some acclimation. I'm used to the Treo QWERTY keyboard, so it's taking me a little time to get used to it. But I seem to be making quick improvements. The joystick is small and it's easy to select the wrong icon. Nokia advertises the phone to be loaded with Blackberry Connect, which is one the reasons I chose this over the Blackberry 8700 series. But I can't find the BB Connect anywhere in the system. It may need to be loaded by the service provider? The Symbian OS is extremely slow to load up and isn't exactly lightning fast between screens, but's ok. I tried to load up the Wi-Fi in my home network but I wasn't able to get it working properly. The documentation with the phone isn't exactly clear or thorough. Oh, and lastly, the video conferencing. There's only one camera on the back. So if you video call, you can see the other person only, or visa versa. I didn't buy it for that, so it's not a big minus for me.
Anyways, I'll post again once I have more time to experiment with the phone.

Harryc,
The OS is buggy, and my reception was terrible. I sold my E70 on ebay after 2 months. Get a Blackberry Pearl for $200 and wait a year until Nokia works out all of the problems with the OS. The Pearl isn't qwerty, which I thought I would hate, but I love the smart type. The phone is so small and has a great form factor. Reception is great and email is the best by far. The Pearl doesn't have all of the bells and whistles of the E70, but you will save yourself hours and hours of fighting with the phone. Try it out and you'll see what I mean.

Hey I just bought the "T-Mobile Dash" HTC S60 phone. I was a user of a Nokia 6820 before. I don't like the new phones keypad because its all crunched in where as the nokias keypad is split in hlaf down the middle. But more over I wanted to ask E70 users how the phones OS is. I like the Nokia sync software better than this microsoft junk on my smart phone. Does anyone have a problem connecting this phone to a computer over bluetooth? I my experience with Nokia has made me hate some things about my phone. Anyone with the E70 have gmail and can you download attachments alright when one a wifi network? Someone please repost or email me because I only have a little time to take my phone back and order an E70. (E70's are on buy.com for like $380 unlocked! I wana do that if someone can help persuade me to return my phone!)

To rsawoseyin:
Maybe this might help one of your problems; I don't own the E70 myself yet (itching to get it!), but I've been reading up a lot on it.
Go to:
http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/08/07/review_nokia_e70/
Go to Page 2 of this review, scroll about half-way down, it states:
"...then there's the clipboard. If you're editing a document there's no apparent way to cut and paste. In fact there is, using the Ctrl key secreted away on the right edge of the QWERTY keyboard. But this isn't documented in the manual, and there's no "Edit" menu indicating the presence of these functions. (The manual contains one reference to the clipboard, suggesting that entire worksheets can be pasted to the clipboard. That's all.) It even fooled this reviewer, who had spent a month with the phone..."
Maybe this tip will help
Good luck!

I buy this type of phone to reduce the number of gadgets I carry around. I tried to use the spreadsheet application. I was very, very disappointed to find that:
1) It does not have a simple copy/cut and paste function. So, you cannot copy the contents of a cell and paste it in another cell.
2) The format setting has a bug such that no matter what you do, the cell alignment is not saved when you save the worksheet.
3) Although in theory you can have several worksheets in one workbook, you cannot duplicate a worksheet in the workbook. You must start every sheet from scratch.
4) When you want to select a colour, the colour selector is very lousy: The rectangular box you move around to select the colour is hardly visible.
My view is that the serious applications in this phone are buggy. Nokia should rewrite them. A simple copy/cut and paste is an absolute minimum for any office application. I find the office applications in the phone extemely hard to use.
