So far I have had the E70 for 2 days and have to say I'm not too sure about it. I think I prefer my older Nokia 6820 for it's intuitive software and simplicity for getting my emails, contacts, text messaging. In fact, I definitely prefer my 6820 in regards to software. Yes the new E70 has lots of functions and a pretty screen but I find it hard to find the function you want to use and it also takes a while to open programs and I have a 150x 1gb card installed that works very well in my canon camera. Using the wi-fi is a pain and I labor every time due to it wanting to connect via a gprs or mobile internet so you have to jump through the hoops every time to pick the option you want and it's not painless. I'm sure someone who is really knowledgeable with software and programming will be comfortable navigating around the phone but I prefer not having to do that when using my phone.
One cool thing is all you need is a bluetooth GPS antenna to use your phone as a reciever and mapping software is available from TomTom & Wayfinder.
The quality and feel is the same as my 6820 which means it soon get scratched up and I prefer the fold out keyboard of the 6820. The E70 is definitely bigger but you do get a much larger screen so there is a trade off, I don't mind that but i did get use to the smaller foot print. Volume is acceptable but the 6820 to me sounds louder and not as tinny as the E70.
I'm still getting use to it and these are my first impressions so who knows after a while, I'm sure I'll adjust to it and won't be able to separate myself from it. I bought mine through EBay from www.phonesource-usa.com and saw that the package came from HK, China and not Las Vegas, Nevada, now I know why I paid so much for shipping. If your using this phone in English or an other European language, I would make sure to get the European Version over the Asian. Mine has lots of characters on the keyboards I will never use and the Dictionary that comes with it is also in Chinese. My mistake for not asking that question, I also notice that none of the reseller's ad's selling the phones state which version. I'm sure if you purchase your E70 through your cell service company you won't have this problem.
I know this post sounds negative but again it's my first impressions and maybe I was overly optimistic about it abilities while waiting for this phone to arrive. I will post more later on after I've used the phone and become better acquainted with it and hopefully it will be more positive.

Cheers,

CB

    Dev,
I think the problem is with your card reader. I bought a 2 GB mini-SD card recently and was informed by the seller that some card readers will not read it properly.Have to try before buying the card reader for use with my PC.

          Hmmmmmm....
          3G doesn't necessarily involve video-call...
Take a look at Nokia 7600...It has 3G, but no video-telephony...

            Hi All,

I just purchased 2 GB Mini SD card for My New Nokia E-70 and inserted in my phone its working fine, However the same card is not readble in my Win-XP Laptop (Via Adapter, when inserted into laptops biult-in 6-in-1 card reader), when double clicked on
the removable memory icon it doesnot read anything and it asks for formatting the card this is something strange, also it doesnot display the capacity of card in the PC, where as it showed it in Mobile mentioned as 2 GB.

Anybody can give an idea as to what is problem and what is solution for this ?

for those that haven't got a chance to see the actual device yet, i've found a site that has the most pictures of this phone. a wonderful site with many pictures.

this forum tends to truncate a long url, i separate it to 3 parts. pls combine it first before pasting to your browser.

                        I have a question?

How about watching a movie on the e70.. is it nice?
Cuz the screen is small & the resolution is high..
Tell me, do you prefer watching movie on this phone or do you prefer watching movie on a 320x240 resolution screen with bigger measurement?

I live in Holland and have ordered this with T-Mobile, I called yesterday and they said Juli.so it could be next week
I hope it will come next week then...

Just purchased E70 on eBay for $480 from phonesource-usa (heard good things about them), shipping was expensive but overall price is still very low and will report on how I like it. About to be in Europe for 3 months travelling around and will be using the phone extensively.

                                  Cheers

                                    To: Dev et al

Thanks Dev for your great reply. Videoconferencing is clearly not envisaged by Nokia on their E70. The E70 has 3 keyboards, so why not 2 cameras? Anyhow, there is a fundamental problem with videoconferencing on mobile phones in that your head has to be close to the display to see the other person and this means holding it in your hand and unacceptable hand-head relative movement. A theoretical solution is to plug the E70 USB/power into a laptop and use the laptop display for viewing the other caller from a distance.

Expansys appear to have some E70s in the UK at £354 UKP but don't forget the £70 UKP of accessories you will buy (MiniSD, USB cable, headset...).:
                                    http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=129910

The resolving power of an average human eye is 0.1mm at 250mm ie it can distinguish two dots 0.1mm apart at 250mm distance and maximum contrast (black/white). The E70 has approx. 0.1mm pixel spacing. This means you should find yourself naturally holding the screen 250mm distance away from your eyes when reading detailed text in a small size. I would be interested if 250mm is what you lucky E70 owners are finding? For those of us with diminshing eyesight ie 45-50+ years old, this phone could be a challenge without reading glasses. But I would like to try the E70 as soon as it hits the retail outlets.

Vodafone told me they were spending a month sorting the E70 out before launching it in their shops. Perhaps they are getting IM and e-mails working first? I suspect they will not be financially motivated to get Skype going.

Has anyone uploaded movie content and played it? Will we be watching Desperate Housewives on the train? Is it a great experience?

The biggest remaining issue appears to me to be the long power cycle duration. 45 secs is completely unacceptable and reminiscent of Microsoft Windows. It is imperative for Nokia and Symbian engineers to fix this asap, because it will be the main reason for all of us not recommending the device to friends. I could live with 15 secs (the simple Nokia 6230 phone takes 13 secs). Hibernation is a useful workaround, but the core problem should be fixed.

To end on a bright note: I can see IM, e-mail, push and Skype being sorted on the E70 over the next 2-12 weeks, and then we will have an absolutely fantastic business tool (once it has powered up).

                                        TO : SC

I saw your posting, I would like to clarify your queries.

+ Yes, I do think so, If all types of connectivities are proven to be solid, I think Laptop will be avoided surely, you can store your important data on 2 GB Mini SD Memory card.

+ You are right No FM Radio and No Flash for Camera are disadvantages but can be over looked by all other advantages.
(In case of Video Calling both the sides, I dont know How can I use this phone because camera is only one and its other side of main display so either you talk and show to other side holding phone reverse and then hear and see them by again holding front, seems very strange).

+ Battery life, I found first two charges were lasting for shorter time, But then as soon as I used it and had more charge / recharge cycles It showed improved battery life. I think battery is quiet good & lasting.

+ E-Mail : I am still trying but couldnot get any software for this Phone, But hope it should be available soon.

+ IM : Still cannot set up, Need help badly.

+ Power-Up : Yes this is too long (45 Sec)and time taking, But I think Nokia should have given something like HIBERNET Mode of Laptops. How do you think ?

+ Skype : Even I am trying if they can supply some version for 3G phone like this
E-70, But sorry sofar they dont have such version, I suggest all you, that we shall request them to make for this type of phones and it will be great help for us business people.

+ Push E-Mail, Sorry No Idea.

+ For getting this phone in London / UK, I dont know, But I got my one from Dubai thru one of my friend at reasonable price, Prior to that I got mail from a supplier who can Ship this/other phones anywhere, please try to check / mail to them and you might get better price for a door delivery, But Surely I dont know their standings so please check for their rappo from market before you deal with them.

                                        Intershop Gsm [intershopgsm@googlemail.com]

On 23-May he quoted to me E-70 for 380 Euro including shipping & insurance.
