Carol, 19 May 2024More like, you have no ideea how to use it...They are probably in India, the G42 skipped on some sensors in that market, the design also seems slightly different around the frame - I'm guessing because the EU model is repairable whereas in India there is no clear legislation on consumer self-repair so they can't promote that aspect.

ALCo RSD29 DL560C, 20 Mar 2024Nokia just missed the train.
I must tell you, I am not a v... moreIf battery backup feels bad, that's due to background processes. If it seems like a manufacturer fault, replace the battery within the warranty period as soon as possible.
If you need better battery life, enable "don't keep activities" and set background processes to 0. You can also restrict apps of your choice separately and watch the magic happen.
It did wonders to my Nokia 8 with a measly 3000mAh battery 👍
If you need better photographs and videos from the cameras, install Google Camera. The photos come out comparable to Google Pixels during daylight, but the 3D audio recording and audio zoom features are unable in the Google Camera app. The pre-installed camera takes better photos, if you don't mind fiddling with the pro camera settings, because the auto mode is below par at times.
With that being said, enjoy using your backup phone 😁

Nokia just missed the train.
I must tell you, I am not a very tech-savvy person. But I do have above average experience of using mobile phones than most of my countrymen in India. So the following opinion is based on the last twenty years of experience with so many handsets and what we expect now.
I own a One Plus Nord CE3 Lite 5G handset as my primary handset right now. But I needed a backup handset too as my job requires me to stay in remote unwired areas for days sometimes. And this particular primary handset is a disappointment indeed when it comes to battery backup. That is one of the most negative aspects of this phone.
So, for a backup, I don't need a heavy-spec handset. I need something that does the job of being a backup. But that does not mean I would be okay with an unromantic spec. Most of the low cost phones don't last. Definitely I need to set my budget in 180-200 USD or 15k-16k INR. Now in that price range you get some priority goals of buying:
1. Good AI camera phones for wannabe social influencers. But I am not that and neither such a phone would meet the battery backup requirements of mine. I need a decent camera though.
2. All specs are okay in terms of RAM and storage, but quality of the material at that range is not lasting type.
3. Not at all impressive handsets.
Then I thought of trying out Nokia G42 5G. It has various spec options. Foolishly I chose the highest spec for this backup handset. What I got, I am listing down below.
1. Good battery backup. However, I am using this word 'however' here to say
don't get fooled to think that it won't drain the battery. It drains battery, but not very much in standby mode. I tested my One Plus phone and this Nokia phone one day. Took a phone free day and left the phones unattended for the entire day and I just went on a 300km drive. At the end of the day, the One Plus lost 20% while the Nokia lost just 2% charges. And mind you, both these phones were in roaming mode, trying to connect to the networks perpetually. So in 7 hours, I'd say both did a good job, but the Nokia did it better.
2. Camera is decent.
By decent, I mean at 50MP, it exactly gives what you shoot. Not above that or below that expectation. This is one oft-ignored fact about Nokia. They are definitely not the best camera phones, they were never. But they give you what they tell you they are giving you. Sony phones used to be very good at that. Chinese siblings give your face a waxing. Apple would charge you a kidney to give you a camera in return. Some illegitimate Chinese offspring would cheat you by claiming something that they are not. But Nokia, just the plain truth. You have Photoshop or Lightroom for other jobs. Even when I used old Nokia C2-01 feature phone, its camera outsmarted the contemporary HTC Explorer A310e smartphone in the same 3.2MP camera segment.
3. No unnecessary bot apps.
That's quite a relief you'd agree.
4. Normal usage experience of surfing is quite good.
Now good things end there. These are what I or you would not want in a daily used handset. Thankfully this is a backup.
1. Finger print unlock
It sometimes fails even after multiple attempts and you need to press the button instead of tapping and put the PIN. No, I am not talking about the PIN mandatorily required to unlock once in every 72 hours. It just fails to receive the fingerprint, forget about recognising it.
2. Screen is quite moody.
It is sometimes butter smooth and some other times lagging. I haven't installed any heavy apps as this is a secondary phone. No games installed. Just Facebook, WhatsApp, 4 online trading apps that are not heavy on RAM. And remember, it's 8GB RAM version I am using! Yet that lag is felt.
3. Video playing is a no-go.
Screen lag here is irritating. Tried playing Amazon Prime Video and set the quality to the lowest. And yet voices cracked and videos played with lagging.
What it could have been:
I bought the 8 GB RAM and 256GB storage variant. Instead of pushing the base architecture of this phone to have that configuration, Nokia or HMD should have put a newer generation Snapdragon processor and priced it just below 20,000 INR or around 230USD. That could have been a game-changer.
Nokia should not bank solely on its old battery backup motto. They already missed the train to the Indian smartphone market. Now they are moving on a slow freight train dreaming to catch that train they missed. So they need to enter with a competitive product lineup which could propel them to a decent spot. Just wish HMD and Nokia would come up with a market-sweeping plan.
Right now this phone is neither cheap as a budget handset nor meets the standards of the competitors whose products cost just 20-30 USD or 2000-3000INR more. Let me tell you, the Snapdragon 480 is the suicide plan here.
Would not recommend it as the primary phone. Both from price and configuration perspectives.
However, great as a backup for purposes I intend to use it. The key point here is a longer standby time and a decent camera. Apart from that you can go for it only and only if you miss the old Nokia tune.

Upgraded from the Nokia 3.4 stuck on Android 12. Got this and got updated to 14. Fast and 5x more powerful. Came with their own earbuds as part of the offer by hmd global until 10th March. Don't know how the 4GB version can handle Android still but with the virtual ram extension it should be good enough.

Next is set refresh rate to 60hz. This will atleast give you many hours maybe even a day with normal use.
