Tom209, 10 Dec 2022Google have used the latest hardware in the past in their p... moreYeah, you're right they always had flagshippy specs till pixel 5. After that i would not call them flagships, tensor is a bit of an experiment and is not quite there with Snapdragon, but well, a flagship is not only a CPU, so yeah...over the board they all are flagshippy spected.
RAM is important, of course, but RAM speed is more important then count, and i presume that this is where mobile phones RAM evolved. Count is also important, dropping on the third place tough, cause way more impotant is the system optimisation. Bad optimised OS would be bad even with 32 gb RAM.
Android was a hog in this area, i find that it got way better with a10 and 11, 12 is a bit sluggish again but i presume that will get better in time when 13 gets more bugs crushed. Let's face it, 13 is how 12 should have been from the get-go, and is still not quite there.
I do not know what rules impose Google uppon android one device manufacturers, i find it tough hard to believe that they impose specs rules.
hmd Global is a quite small company, compared to samsung, apple, sony and google, i exclude chinese "brands". So they cannot afford to fight concurence at flagship level, where the market is pretty stiff and people do not buy that much while also do not change to much between brands. So i presume that they observed a growing demand in the mid-rage low-end segments and here is where they can grow, so they push devices in this segments. I find it strategically, very well acted, if they would have not change their strategy, they would have hitten rock buttom by now. They will also never be able to sell cheap, only if they turn their strategy and ethics arround, and do what the chinese do, but if they do that, there would be no reason for them to exist, i mean, nobody needs another brand with such behaviour. In my opinion they managed to achive a good market share in an area that will stay constant. People that do not want to buy nor to support chinese brands, but would not pay 1000 euros for some fancy spect devices. People that would use android but do not want a full of garbage android, that comes from, let's say the obvious, samsung. They topped this with the 3.3.3 model and so distingueshed themsleves from sony, motorola and samsung. At the end, at this point it is only a survival fight. With all the floading and inteligence theft comming from china while apple's on the stearing wheel, innovation hit rock buttom a long time ago. People complain, but do nothing about it. Hunting for 100€ devices with buffy specs, not mattering who, how, when and why did the devices, will for sure not bring the innovation on it's feet again.

Carol, 10 Dec 2022Google has nothing to say in this segment. I find it tough ... moreGoogle have used the latest hardware in the past in their pixel and nexus lines. They are now relying on their own chipset (Tensor) which is pretty upper mid range/high end.

Also high specs are a necessity, especially considering android 13 requires at least 2GB RAM to run efficiently, and for those that game (which many people do - though not me), then ram and processor specs are very important.

Low specced phones aren't future proof. It's all well and good offering 3 years of updates and warranty, but how will the UI experience be within that time? This extended post sales service is a marketing gimmick.

Even the whole in built batteries is a scam of the highest order - because of Apple, all other manufacturers followed suit & copied.

This restricts the lifespan of a device, as each time you charge it, it loses endurance. And replacing in built batteries is no easy or cheap feat.

The least manufactures could do is provide decent price to specs handsets, ensuring future proofing. This is something HMD haven't considered.

Yota phone, Simple phone, fairphone etc are very niche specific devices, so they can/could get away with high price/under specs etc.

I remember when 4GB ram was being included in handsets from 2015, like the Galaxy note 5.

7 years on, and we're still seeing manufactures, including Chinese brands, still offering only 4GB.

Anyhow, I think google are involved somehow in placing limitations on android one devices, as no one (apart from google/stock android) has ever released a high specced/powered android one phone.

Carol, 10 Dec 2022Strange cause you just called it trash in nokia x30 review ... moreWhere have I said I didn't have it?

Do you want me to embarrass you by taking a photo of all the phone's I have and sharing it?

I've said that it WOULD be more desirable and worthwhile if it came with those aforementioned specs & features.

      You're very paranoid and contentious.

Tom209, 08 Dec 2022Or.. Maybe they have spec/feature limitations imposed &... moreGoogle has nothing to say in this segment. I find it tough strange that google itself does not put the latest highend snapdragon in their devices (even tough that would be pretty easy).... Maybe they want to stop the hardware specs frenzy and force innovation again? Doubt it... Anyway, while i cannot stop denying google, i cannot deny the fact that they actualy concentrate on user experience way more then on how the specs sound like... with crazy paper specs they would have be the best ever, yet they do not do that...pretty sure that that's not quite a coincidence, a thing that should put chinese brands into question, if that does not do it, well.... Ignorance is bliss.

Will there be a full review if the G60?

Or.. Maybe they have spec/feature limitations imposed & enforced by google/android one?

Maybe Google have placed restrictions on other manufacturers offering android one devices, so they can't and don't compete with their own pixel line. 🤷‍♂️

If this had a 5000mah battery, fast charge, Stereo speakers, and a standard 6gb ram/128gb storage (everywhere), it would be a very very very worthy contender.

They would have also sold a hell of a lot more and actually fall in line with their competitors.

Even if they sold it at a slightly elevated price point - with all these additional features and specs, it would have made it worthwhile, as it's coupled with stock android and their guarantee/warranty promise etc

I just don't understand why their R&D team didn't consider this.

YUKI93, 02 Dec 2022It seems that this is the only G-series HMD Nokia smartphon... moreSimply go for Sony Xperia 10 IV. You will regret later if you make other choices.

YUKI93, 02 Dec 2022It seems that this is the only G-series HMD Nokia smartphon... moreSony 10 IV is a good device too, a bit less in the sturdiness as with all Sony lower level phones. It is tough, at least where i live, 100 euros more expensive then G60 and does not have 3 years warranty. those would be the only reasosn as of why i would not recomand it over G60. It has tough some advantages like IP68 and no notch/selfie cameras bugging the screen and some neet functions activated while still keeping the OS clean, would be nice to see hmd stepping up in this area too.

It seems that this is the only G-series HMD Nokia smartphone to date that has a three-year OS update policy. Give me the choice between this and the X30, and I would easily take this phone because it still has the headphone jack and the microSD card support. But would I take the the G60 over the Sony Xperia 10 iv? I'm not convinced about doing that as the Xperia is shorter and has a bigger battery than the G60.

Very well build phone .Feels like metal build in the back .
Everything work very smooth ,well optimized with the processor .Some application may you have from older device even with Android 12 , need to find other, not always latest version work .

Stock camera is excellent in low light ,but need to find the modes. Also this Gcam MGC_8.1.101_A9_GV2b works even better in low light photos if turn off AWB .
Video is good only in 60fps .With this set ,the lack of 4K video is so so .

Battery last almost 2 days with normal use if screen set 60hz . But charge of this phone is to slow ,even with branded fast charger .Maybe buy original Nokia is the best way . But slow charge is better for battery life ,so if leave device all night to charge maybe is one of the best way.

Audio sound is good with this set . Under option accessibility ,select sound option ,select mono sound combined

November security update comes faster than Motorola phone I know .Stable update ,not problem till now.
