or just saying it to... moremay be your unit is a faulty one because i dont find any problem in scrolling in my lumia 635.
520 i had used before but to be honest i like 635 better.
now i have only 720 and 635 with me and comparitively 720 is better in terms of screen quality and usage.
i have not used 1520 so i cannot comment on that.

520 model has no scrolling lag at all and very smooth while 635 model is almost as junky and not smooth as any android phone today (including the famous note 3 junk).
2) I do have Lumia 1520 now and it's as perfect as it can get. I just hope that the horrible scrolling on 635 model is not because of windows 8.1 system (my Lumia 1520 still 8.0). I will test 1520 at AT&T store when 8.1 will become available and if I find out that scrolling issues are part of 8.1 system, then I will not update my phone to 8.1
3) To all people who think that internet will be more snappy on 635 due to LTE and quad core processor, you are wrong. The processor speed and RAM is what's more important in loading pages quicker. When my speed is 10Mbps on 520 model the pages are opening horribly slowly. When my 1520 has the same speed (only in Times Square area bytheway, because in other areas I get on average 28Mbps) the pages are loading very very fast).

Total junk compa... morei dont know how could you even compare this phone with cheap phones, the quality of this phone is much much better than all the cheap phones available in the market.
the cons which you have said are baseless don't forget this is a budget phone, go for higher end lumia phone and you will have all the features you want.
by the way its much better than 520.

I saw this phone at T-Mobile store today.
Total junk comparing to Lumia 520!
CONS:
- Scrolling became horrible (almost like on android)
- Screen resolution became horrible (must use higher resolution on 4.5 screen like other brands do)
- The navigation buttons are part of the screen space now
Come on Microsoft!
Don't become like former Nokia and make cheap phones
to function horribly!

I basically want them to be able to surf the net, txt, etc...not looking for a super flashy expensive device. Something I can track them with but has a few bells and whistles...is this still a good option or can you recommend something else?

I hate that Nokia seems to be going backwards...Why would you tease us all with promises of a better-spec-ed device when last year's Lumia models have been far superior in my opinion. But I guess if you aren't looking for something hardcore and more of a text/talk/browse occasionally-friendly device, then this is it. I mean seriously, no flash? It may be listed at 5mp but that camera is going to suck ass unless you're within a few miles of the sun. I have to say, good color options though even if that's the lamest thing you've ever heard.

what 635 lacks when compared to 625
led flash
proximity sensor and ambient light sensor
dedicated camera key
front camera
only 720 p videos record able
i do own both 525 and 630 and performance wise both are same,i didn't feel any difference other than 525 performing slightly better in high end games but it has only dual core processor but has the added benefit of 1 gb ram. now why does this happen if 630 has quad core processor????
one more thing is about clear black display which in 630 and 635 is a joke, if you don't believe me go to this below site to know more about clear black display used in them.

One has quad core and one has 1GB ram.
Don't fall for Nokia's marketing.
