The options are
1. 2G (2g only)
2. 3G Only
3. 3G (3G priority over 2G)
If u cant see these options, you are still not on latest build.

This device has some GPS issues from long back (I guess only for some users). Try using GPS along with 3G Internet enabled. By doing that, I think it will connect faster.
Using Wifi too it should have worked.
