Ooops.... You forgot to mention this; but then it is something that Nokia and Microsoft try to hide from their customers!

Hi, I have a 820 and I have no problem with Windows 8, it runs fast and I like the style of the phone. The apps are great and the phone itself is fast too. I like the free offline maps and navigation as well, it really comes handy if you live in a big city. However I'm not happy with bluetooth, it's very hard to connect to another phone.

Been a good experience so far, this is my first ever smartphone and I am glad i selected Lumia 820. The user interface is amazing and easy to navigate.

My only complaint about the device is the battery backup, which comes for only 16 hours since you have charged completely. Plus, there is no option to control the processes which run in the backend to improve your battery life. Hope there is an update to the OS which allows to control apps which should run in the back end.

The WP8 operating system is a great new experience and works well on the Nokia Lumia 820. Both companies have packed their features into this nicely sized device. It's slim, smooth, beautiful, colourful, and the design of hardware and software integrate very well. My recent experience of using the phone (with gloves) to take photos and review them in snowy Berlin really made me appreciate the phone. It does its job really well, without imposing itself on your time when you want to focus on the world and not the phone. But even so, there are plenty of apps and games I could use to while away the time waiting in the airport on my way home, including some office work and note-writing.

Subgroup, 10 Feb 2013Why buying mid-end smartphone lumia 820 & taking troubl... moreYa, right now lack of some useful applications and OS restriction of window platform has badly hindering lumia's markets.
But surely MS would solved it in few Months time.
Nokia future looks brighter, if they could bring out varieties of lumia for customers to choose freely (per Year) according to their budgets

Upgraded my Lumia 800 to 820. I'm glad I did. I also have a Nexus 7 as my tablet and although Android really "does it all", WP8 is just the easier day to day device for my needs. Of course, nothing beats Android when it comes to games and downloads, but WP8 is my daily device.

Subgroup, 10 Feb 2013Why buying mid-end smartphone lumia 820 & taking troubl... moreGood question Subgroup

The key reasons to update to Lumia over Galaxy are the reasons that differentiate Nokia in general from the rest of the crowd.

                        1) Offline Maps (no data used) and the same map base as Navman, Garmin and many others GPS maps. We all know there are some manufactures out there that use your data... to get you to the wrong place.

                        2) True MS Office compatibility. Comes with Word Excel, Onenote and Powerpoint.

                        3) Kids corner, although not as important to most is a handy thing for us with kids. Like windows it is a limited account, they can play apps you put in there for them, but mot make changes, calls, post pictures accidently etc, etc. Perhaps you just have a friend that wants to check something on the net on your phone, you could feel safe handing it over to them, knowing that they can not read any of your personal messages etc.

                        4) Better lowlight photos. We have all been at a club or somewhere dark, and had grainy photos. Nokia patented a sensor technology 5-6 years ago that does allow you to take much better photos in dark environments. Skydrive backs up these photos, for access on your, PC,Mac,Android,or IOS device through the relevant Skydrive app on that device. Loose your phone not your photos.

                        5) Better than Android security, I'm not going to be naïve and say that there is no chance of malware. But the odds are much better in your favour.

                        6) Integrated in to the OS (all windows 8 OS) is a People app that manages all activities with a contact, emails, calls, messages. Including all their social networking updates, updates they post from FB, Twitter, Instagram Photos, all show in what's new under the contact, Including their photo albums for each account.

                        7) Nokia Music, this is COOL. Nokia supplied mix radio streamed for free, that you can download a category for offline listening, and update when it has been changed. Free legit music from many genres.

                        8) My personal experience is toughness. My phone fell off the top of my 6.5 foot fridge on to tiles, and no cracks, dents, marks with no case or screen protector on. I don't recommend trying this at home, I will not be trying it again.

                        9) Gimmicks like wireless charging are optional. So if you don't want them you don't have to buy the accessories. I like to have it there, have not bought the accessories yet myself. I do think I will down the track though.

                        10) NFC, yes the galaxy s III and others have NFC as well. A lot of phones don't though, and with all the new tablets, ultrabooks, convertables and laptops coming with NFC built in, it is a technology you will want in your phone as well.

I don't think that it is a mid range phone, seeing that it does a lot more than some of the others out there with "Quad core processors" etc, The phone is lightning quick, great at everything it does.

I hope that this answers a couple of questions for you.

Why buying mid-end smartphone lumia 820 & taking trouble of downloading applications ?
When high-end, gs3 is now available in all market stores for the same price.
