Nokia N73
Expected July 2006
The Nokia N73 can be considered to be a substantially upgraded version of the Nokia N70, and it can be considered as a direct competitor to the Sony Ericsson K790i and K800i handsets. Most people will see the N73 as 3G phone with tri-band GSM, although we understand that there will be a quad-band GSM version with EDGE available for some markets too.
There's a large 2.4" 240x320 pixel display, a 3.2 megapixel main camera with Carl Zeiss optics (and the 3G version will have a secondary video calling camera). The Nokia N73 also has stereo speakers, an FM radio, Bluetooth and expandable memory using miniSD cards (to supplement the 42Mb of internal memory supplied as standard).
The software is the usual comprehensive Nseries package running on top of a Symbian S60 3rd edition operating system, including a multimedia player, web browser and email client. Nokia are pitching the N73 as a media device, in addition to being a camera phone, 3G phone and by the looks of it a pretty decent business handset. Also, pictures taken on the N73 can be uploaded to Flickr directly from the phone.
It's slightly smaller and lighter than the N70, at 110x49x19mm and 116 grams. Talktime has been improved to 4 hours (from 3.5) and the N73 has a maximum of 15 days standby time (up from 10). There are three colour schemes - silver grey/deep plum, frost white/mocha brown and frost white/metallic red.
On the downside, the N73 doesn't appear to support stereo Bluetooth and the keypad appears to have a similar cramped layout to the N70. Overall though, this is a very promising looking handset that is one of the best specified mainstream handsets we've seen to date, and it will probably be the biggest seller in the new Nseries range.
Nokia say that the N73 should be available from July 2006, although pricing has not been disclosed.

Anyone know whether the joystick would be more like that of the Sony Ericsson K750 rather than like the one on the N70? This is because the K750 joystick is so prone to breaking down, whereas the N70 one is so solid!!

seen demo phones before, and i am truly impressed with the phone! but i find the directional keypad a bit stiff and makes it hard to navigate, so hope the final retail version out on the market does not have this issue. At 116g, It could be perfect if it is lighter.
Other than that, it matches, or even exceeds what other competitor phones have to offer, style, features wise. definitely a must buy for me.

I'm an SE fan but I have to say,I'm really impressed with this phone! It has almost everything, not a brick like n90 or n80,has a bigger keypad than k800,better joystick bigger screen,WOW!Has no camera shutter, but not a big deal.I might just consider going over to nokia's side.NOT!But i'm still impressed with this phone.

I have the N80 and its a brick, very heavy phone and also its large depth is hard to hold. I am returning. I have the latest firmware and it crashes all the time. I am waiting for the N73.

na this phone will cost abt USD56o when released i guess , so as to rival the k800i which is selling for S$868(ard 542usd) currently in singapore
and further more the k800i had just been released yesterday only .. thus prices sure to drop like mad as sellers would ususally jack up prices sky high when telecos r still not selling it

Just seen the Sony Ericsson K800i an the joystick to me will easily get dust round it even though they say its not going to an made it more reliable, the N73 joystick looks totally better an more easier than the K800i,i am going to check the k800i out,but my first choice looks like the N73 so come on Nokia get it released early to challenge the K800i an to see who will be the winner ,then the N93 will can creep in to either steal the race or not

OMG! So thin (than N70). And camera of 3mp, autofocus finally... What else can I ask for nokia upcoming N73?
One thing I have to pray for this N73 is that I hope it don't hang, lag too much & starting up slow... like N70 for the new os in N73.
===================================
To those who dislike N73, maybe u are right. But those liking N73 isn't wrong as well. N73 is yet out for sale, thus, I think we should try it first b4 saying how bad or good technically.
Nokia is improving on design (no offence). This is another phone I want to own when I know about it's existence. And for the past few yrs, aft my last N6100, I am targeting S.E & got S.E. models. Also considering & got other brands but still find S.E. (& Nokia) better suit my criteras (design, size, shortcut keys, settings, ringtone set up). Ok, what I wish to imply is get the real thing, touch it, try it, then comment. Otherwise, all are just, well, what we think.
Thus, I will get N73 if I like it & won't if I dislike it "once" I had hands-on with it.

its not a "girlie" phone its "easy to slide in" to the pocket phone! Much better comparing with a "pointy every direction" k800.
