The reason why Nokia is not telling people the real reason of failure is because all the N8 devices across the world were manufactured using the same techniques and same assembly line. and that means every N8 manufactured so far (or at least till mid november) is vulnerable to the issue.
Nokia said the reason is "the way we assembled the engines" and "this issue is not limited to a particular region". he also said that Nokia can not tell the exact number of phones that have been affected. That means the issue is global. and all the N8s has the potential to go dead any day. Some are going dead now, the till now working phones may also go dead in near future.
If media comes to know this officially from Nokia, there will be a huge shame on Nokia in the world media and there will be lawsuits from thousands of customers and that amount of bad publicity will affect the future device sells. thats why Nokia is not telling anyone the truth.
If you see the official Nokia statement about the issue, you will see that the video is not continuous. it's edited and many part has been cut out. I bet the information which Nicholas said on those sections revealed more details about the issue but Nokia trimmed those out.
IF N8 IS A SUCCESS, NOKIA BOSS WILL NOT SPEAK ABOUT ITS FAILURE.. WOULD YOU RISK YOUR MONEY TO BUY THIS PHONE?

hey i dont know exactly abt numbers but i red this at one site , given by seller in finland
The Nokia N8 has now been available for about three weeks. I’ve personally sold large quantities, and without specific number I can say that it has been selling many times the numbers that its competitors have here in Finland. Devices like the Samsung Galaxy S, HTC Desire, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, Samsung Wave, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, have all lost in numbers to the Nokia N8.
and at one site i red that till 2nd half of december about 2.5 million sold and with this they are sure that in dcember about 9-12 million n8 gonna sold.
till date i heard issues of n8 dying freezing and still much n8 are sold.
I think when firmware update we will get when this issues will get solved. i dont knw what will happen to iphone, HTC, and samsung.
no doubt that handsets like iphone ,galaxy S, HTC desire, xperia x10 are good. BUt N8 offers almost all there features
with extra cool functions like HDMI out, FM trans, USB on the go.
Hence N8 actually beat them all. with price much less than then. It is big deal sarji.

Well, I have had my N8 for 2 days now, and am very happy with it, except for one BIG complaint about Nokia in general (not the phone...).
The Nokia update server does not work!!!
I have been trying for 3 days now to update the Ovi suite (had it installed for my previous phone, the N96) and it is VERY SLOW, and then crashes before the software update is complete! Have been trying many times during the past 3 days, and have NOT been able to update yet. Doing a Google search, it became apparent that this is a general problem with their update server, which has been on-going for some YEARS now...
I phoned Nokia support in my country, and they were totally clueless and unprofessional, and could not help me either.
So, looks like after some 10 Nokia phones over the years, this will be my last.
It's sad that a company has grown to a stage where they do not consider customer support as important...

mimi, 21 Dec 2010yup... my friends also said the same thing.. actually im go... moreCould you please provide a solid source ie not some guy on a forum on where it states that Nokia are recalling (as you confirmed to member sweetsweet) all N8s and that 70% of them so far have been returned due to defects.
I'm sure potential buyers would want to know all information about this phone and that plucking random numbers from the air and providing false rumours would not be helping them in the slightest.
I've checked your one stat and rumour online and there are ZERO reports on either so I'm assuming you'd also struggle to provide us with a solid source.
