Glad you're back people have been acusing me of bei... moreWhile you have every right to be pissed about your issues don't you think it would be more rational to direct your anger somewhere more appropriate like at some service personnel? Clearly, your quota wasn't that of the majority. Though i haven't gotten mine yet, i've handled and i mean really tested 4 n8s till date. Opera mobile on gsmarena and full facebook, ovi maps in background and some other less relevant apps running, no slowing down. I couldn't manage to freeze any of them. Lags are a part of all devices with a true os. Android, symbian even non smart phones like the iphone lag. Arguing otherwise is plain stupidity and self deception. The only places where a lags were evident in the devices i tried were on opening the apps folder and in the ridiculous web browser.
Don't start with the processor argument cuz its irritating and stupid. What gives you the impression that a faster processor or more ram would solve your units problems? Do you know more than the professionals at nokia? Did your device give you out of memory errors before it froze? My 64bit win 7 running hp with its much praised 2.4ghz core i5 processor and 4gb ram lags on ghost recon. A 3 year old game. That too with processor running at just 39% and 1.2gb of ram free. Your device has issues, no doubt but if you feel you know how to solve them, i recommend you design your own smartphone.

Only defending due to nokia loyalty and the hope for updates.
The truth is that the processor and RAM were not sufficient, do you agree? come on be honest?! or at least admit it would be nice to have these things upgraded?

No the N8 is not on par with other top end phones it just has some unique features. The basic smart phone features such as speed, internet, widgets, or just the reliability to just work! it is behind.
I remember telling you that my gf's phone did the 'pop ups' on this page and her phone is old. The N8 has flash but couldn't open many sites i tried.
As you can see I am venting! thats because I had a lot of faith in this phone and feel like I've been cheated

Wheez, 28 Oct 2010Which phone did you end up getting btw?No phone as of yet as I am still waiting on Vodafone to reset my commitment as Nokia have now confirmed to them that I have returned it.
I am planning on getting a HTC Desire as that is already tried and tested and reviewed well by all good sites. I will never get a brand new to the market phone again

Wheez, 28 Oct 2010I'd guess you might've had a faulty one. I've only had it r... moreI honestly doubt it was just the once but why did you have to hard reset? my guess you were on the internet for more than about 20 minutes and then it totally froze. Just not good enough -I thought the delays were to fix these bugs?
It missed emails when syncing to my gmail too
The only advantage (for me) I see to an N8 after owning one is the good battery life. The tiny widgets are almost useless with some apps. Does most people really need a 12Mp camera.
If you need USB OTG then yes other wise I will sacrifice having to charge my phone everyday (which I do anyway and have a charger at work and car charger)
I was promised a bug free phone but it crashed more times in 5 days than my N95 8gb did in 3 years. I now can't trust Nokia to risk getting another one
Please be honest Wheez in my head I know you were underwhelmed too when you got over the initial novelty of the newness.

Glad you're back people have been acusing me of bei... moreAnd I know your not blindly hating or anything, but just to add, those videos in reality have nothing to do with the truth about the device. "Monday copys" happen, but you would've gotten a brand new N8 had you just taken that back to Nokia.
Most people here and everywhere are satisfied with the purchase. It's exactly on par with the competition, it doesnt have to beat them in everything (or anything) if and when it does enough things well enough to outweight the other phones that may master few of those things and lack the other half.

Glad you're back people have been acusing me of bei... moreDidnt watch the videos of yours before I posted my previous comment, but now I did.
Just to add, yeah, that is far from normal and I've encountered nothing of the like. The one crash I mentioned I've had was a reset. I was using the OVI store that is abit clunky itself, was trying to multitask something, NFS:Shift I think cos I was trying to film the video back then, it jammed for like 10s and then it reset itself. But apart from that, NOTHING like what you've been experiencing.
Definitely a faulty copy.

Glad you're back people have been acusing me of bei... moreI'd guess you might've had a faulty one. I've only had it reset like once during this time I've had mine. No slowness of the kind you reported.
As for being on par, well, you've been here long enough to know what I think, it's not the prettiest or fastest, but the features pretty much go unrivaled. Overall the balance in this device (at least in the ones that arnt faulty :D) is very, very good. I still would not even consider trading my N8 for any other phone out there. And that's said without any Nokia love on the background.
3 words behind while typing certainly is very very slow and is not normal for the device. Hard to say what was wrong with it, but I'd still guess for a faulty phone.
I would definitely return mine/get it fixed if it was like you described. So you are probably seen as a troll trying to hate on Nokia cos most people can't personally agree to things you tell. I've heard of something alike though and something abit different, and usually people have managed to get theirs returned/traded for a brand new one that they've been happy with.

@wheez
Glad you're back people have been acusing me of being just a troll.
I don't know if you have been reading the posts on this page over the last few weeks. Well you know how excited I was to get an N8 and was one of the ones waiting and supporting this phone, well now after using it for only 5 days I sent it back and have now for the first time decided to get an android phone. I was so disappointed in the unfinished feel of the software.
Putting the crap web experience aside. It totally crashed on me everyday to the point where I had to hard reset. It lagged big time when I had more than one app opened -example I was on the internet and then tried to reply to a text and had to wait for the text to catch up on my screen! (I was literally 3 words ahead of it). I had not transferred any data onto the phone other than my contacts. Sometimes the in the multitask window it would revert to just icons instead of screen shots of what was opened. when viewing images it flicks fast but you have to wait if you want yo use the multi touch zoom on every pic.
You should be in sales as it was you who convinced me that the low processor and RAM would not be a problem due to the dedicated GPU and light OS. That is SO NOT the case. I was forced to youtube N8 vs (SGS, Desire, Iphone) with released versions of the N8 and the N8 was out performed in almost every aspect other than the camera and maybe Sat Nav. Yes the camera was fantastic (altho videos in the dark were not) the build quality excellent, but the overall usability is below the competition standard. Can you or anyone find one video on youtube where the N8 out performs any other phone?
Don't get me wrong I am Not a Nokia hater as you know but I am disappointed and bitter towards them for getting me so excited and wasting months of my time and then delivering a buggy phone.
Be honest Wheez have you experience some of these faults -I know you are a loyal Nokia man living in Finland etc but people need to know the truth. N8 is just a good camera phone with nice feature like FM transmitter and USB OTG and a good battery etc (WHEN it works smoothly) but it is NOT on par with the top end phones.
This was my N8
