Surprise, surprise. The iFixit team have cornered themselves a dark grey Nokia N8 and have proceeded to do the one thing that comes naturally to them: disassembled it. It's mostly good news all around with this teardown, which found the BL-4D battery cell was only two Torx screws away from being user-replaceable, while the overall N8 construction was PRAISED as being the "BEEFIEST" of ANY PHONE THIS YEAR. plenty of bodacious highlights within, including the MASSIVE Xenon flash and the pair of camera modules -- which are regrettably not removable from the main board. The touchscreen controller in the N8 is the same as has previously been used on the Kin Two and BlackBerry Torch. Perhaps that's not the best pedigree in the world, but the (complete in one case, and relative in the other) lack of success of those phones WAS NEVER really about the screen's responsiveness.

Anonymous, 08 Oct 2010Just tried out the nokia N8 at the Nokia outlet in Hong Kon... moreNice too see some honest first impressions. I've only read a mindless dribble and rants of folks who seem to be either completely against this phone or love this phone. This phone is more appeal and practicality then most phones it’s compared to (iPhone and Galaxy) why would you want a 1 GHz processor when the one provided does the job? The extra processing power would drain battery... it’s a mobile device that's suppose to last you the entire day, not a fully functional desktop plugged in. As far as the thousands of apps go, The most apps I’ve seen on an iPhone is like 6 screens worth, you can fit about 24 apps on a screen if your going to boast about 250,000 apps you should have a hundreds of home screens full of them... I'd like to see the A4 1 GHz processor handle that. So don't come in here throwing stupid arguments that really don't help your case.

Once again, thanks mate for a good first impression.

Hamida Husseni Jamal, 08 Oct 2010I Think the phone is almost perfect in every way and perfoo... moreThe phone has a miles better GPU than most other phones, in benchmarks and real life it's just on par with 1ghz devices who have stronger CPU but weaker GPU.

Nokia N8 is best Hardware phone, but not best software phone. Symbian 3 still few step behind in compare to other OS. But i belive nokia will back in action with in 2 year with the help from MeeGo and Symbian 4.

I Think the phone is almost perfect in every way and perfoormance is excellent however there are only two concerns first the phone is expensive in comparison to
other phones with similar specifications and the processor speed is some where around 680mhz where as you can get other phones with a lower cost at 1ghz.

Just tried out the nokia N8 at the Nokia outlet in Hong Kong. To be honest, the UI is not as smooth as I have expected it to be. The web browser, to be honest, SUCKS TO THE MAX! A portrait qwerty with auto correct would also be much appreciated. The current one is just to tiring and destroy the whole pleasure of using the phone. However, the camera is really really GOOD! Now I understand why it is better than some compact cam. Photo gallery is a bit slow when loading but after it has loaded, everything will become smooth.

Music cover flow is extreme. Trust me, it is smoother and better to use than the iP4's. The screen....one word. GORGEOUS!! You have to see it to believe it. All those review videos don't do it any justice. It is simply stunning. Color contrast puts the iPhone 4 retina display to shame. Much to my astonishment, the N8 is really really light. You literally can't feel the weight and it is really thin. Thinner than what I have expected.

Moving on is the homescreen swiping. I cannot lie here. It does not deliver. They should integrate it so that it can move along with our finger. The current one is just too dead. And the pinch-to-zoom feature should really be revised. It is not fluid enough. One thing to note about the screen though is it is really responsive. It exceeded my expectation and the responsiveness of the screen really blew me away. I daresay it is on par, if not better, than the iPhones or HTC Desire.

Well, that is all for now. Will do a little video review after I have purchased my unit. At the moment still considering whether to get it or not.

P.S. The build quality is really something. No wonder a lot of sites give it a 5/5 for build quality.

Xtc, 08 Oct 2010How if nokia with android would you buy one?Don't have a problem with that. I also want to try something new. But i think nokia and android can't be put on one sentence(i just did XD) so i think it's quite impossible to see them on a single device. Plus, i think it's wierd to see a nokia phone with android UI. They don't fit imo. So i better off with samsung or htc if i decided to go android.

The totality of n8 as a phone wins me the most. So i reserved my curiosity on other OS to my next purchase. I'm still not closing my doors on wave though, he's there in case of emergency, i digress ;)

Does nokia internet radio works on n8?

                        Symtorrent work?

Any good weather forcast app for the pilot?

Can someone give me a list of top iphone games developers? I want to go to their forum site to ask for symbian 3 qt version.

                        Thanks

[deleted post]Bullshit, this could easiest be the highest quality mobile phone to ever be made so far.

It's worth every cent and even more.

c3rus, 08 Oct 2010I already pre-ordered N8 here at Philippines, cost is Php 2... moreGood for you. Wish though that some provincial retailers will not abuse it and charge high prices the moment it appears on retail stores. Or better yet, by the time i have the money, i can get it at the price of wave, somewhere in nov-dec. before christmas. That's cool. That way, I can't have any better choice than n8 given the circumstances.

Wheez, 08 Oct 2010Personally I wouldn't have bought the N8 if it was running ... moreYeahh ur right man android is sucker not so practical for a mobile device n iphone is so overrated not worth of money to buy. I use symbian until now n not so interested with overhyped os like android, ios or bada i prefer with symbian cause the practical n multitasking on it n cause the technology in it so useable in my life. Cannot live without symbian in my life...
