Resistive screens are less sensitive to finger touch but good thing is you can use a phone with resistive screen using any object or while wearing gloves. (It works based on resistance produced by object to be specific). Capacitive screens are highly sensitive to finger touch and that allows manufacturers to create multi-touch phones(all capacitive are not muti-touch). On the downside you can't use it with stylus or gloves. Capacitive displays are more popular among smartphones but costs more than resistive. If you buy any cheap smartphone then they will be having resistant display.

A general statement about them can be given though, Capacitative screens are more responsive and Resistive are more accurate. However, with Nokia's new touchscreen phones, that issue on accuracy with Capacitative screens have been eliminated (at least with their latest one, the X6).

I think capacitive touch screen is more sensitive. But you cannot use stylus or finger nail on it.
Resistive touch screen accept any kind of touch... finger, stylus, finger nail...etc. But not as sensitive/responsive as capacitive touch screen.
Well i think you should hear from people who are more expert in this area or go for wiki.

[deleted post]I share your thoughts re: Symbian as an OS for touchscreen phones. It's just too outdated, has nowhere near the form factor of other OS. That being said, granted Nokia don't released a half-baked phone, and as long as it's responsive, fast and stable, I personally would be willing to sacrifice a richer user experience for features and functionality. The multimedia capabilities of this thing are amazing, and it would be very handy to be able to plug in a USB drive.

kunal, 13 Jul 2010i'm a college student.... i love music, camera and look of... moreyou say that camera, music and look of phone are important features for you. in that case, it's probably best to wait for the N8. the N900 is very powerful, but not for everyone. And when it comes to camera and music, the N8 is (supposed) to be class-leading in this department. It's pretty much expected to be the best camera phone on a cell phone. As for the look of a phone, obviously that's subjective, but most people seem to find the N900 rather unattractive and bulky. the N8 looks a bit funkier, and is certainly thinner and lighter.

Nokia themselves have labeled the N900 to be a "geek" phone that won't appeal to the masses. It's not the most user-friendly phone out there, but is the closest you will get to having a computer in your pocket at the moment. The Maemo 5 OS is a nice refreshing change from Symbian, but it should be noted that it won't be upgradeable (officially) to Meego. If you're a big multitasker, then the N900 is for you. It's difficult to really recommend the N8 when it hasn't even been released yet, but this is supposed to be a multimedia beast - Nokia are harping on and on about its amazing camera, audio and video quality. So if multimedia is your thing, then you should probably wait for the N8.
