The design of the power button on this phone is same as that for laptops and pcs. Holding the power button down for 8 seconds doesn't initiate shut down in the phone os, it disconnects the phone from its power source. Its as good as removing the battery. Whether the phone hangs or not would not affect its functionality.
Besides, why are you guys so skeptical? This is symbian^3! Nokia knows better than to grow with the old downs. Symbian^3 aims to be usable by the average user and not just geeks. Its sure to be very stable.

r0bz, 06 Jul 2010Well i know phone switches off with long press of power but... moreMy N97 when hangs (very rarely though), I just keep it aside. Within a minute or two, it backs to normal. Once it restarted automatically to get back normal but I never had to remove battery to restore things.

Just hope the Nokia N8 is fully ready for Production,an the software sorted out,its about 6 weeks to go before its being finally released,with Nokia anouncing the N8 early,all the Network types should be Fully marked up,Vodafone,Orange,T-Mobile an 3 all like to have the names put on mobiles,so i am sure Nokia should have produced the phones be now,an just the Software they have to put on The N8,Hope the Software is as fast as videos i have been watching,an bad news today for Nokia in Western Europe-Samsung as overtaken them,so more pressure on Nokia,an hope this bad news really gets Nokia woken up at last,because Nokia used to have the same attitude as Apple now,can release any mobile an it will succede,an now Sales an Shares getting worse at Nokia

Well i know phone switches off with long press of power button. But when symbian hangs, it hangs for good. Not even power button helps. So last thing is to remove battery so i was just asking.

r0bz, 06 Jul 2010I'm asking this just out of curiousty that i know N8 doesn'... morepress the power button a hold for 8 sec then the phone will shut down and that is simple i think.. just like desktops and notebooks( i'm sure that if your notebook freeze u don't remove the battery from it right?) :)

The Nokia N8's release date has been declared as August 24.
The release date is a notable move for Nokia since it planned it’s initial release in July.
This was because of the notion that the phone would be enabled with their new Symbian^3 OS.
Due to the new OS, the Nokia will apparently be 180 per cent faster than the Nokia N97.
Since the phone is now being released in August, Nokia has made some slight changes but progress has obviously been maintained.
Amazon.com in Germany has been taking pre-orders for the Nokia N8, but at €470 (£406).
The price for the order is €100 above the initial SIM-free asking price that was previously released by Nokia."

Someone once posted here, why can't Nokia be more like Apple, and release a phone within weeks of announcing it.
This was said before all the problems that Apple is now having.
Nokia, release the N8 when it's been properly tested. Thank you.

So N8 will definitely be bug free and if not mistaken, the memory full problem will probably be solved too. Plus Nokia is making some final adjustment to the software so that when it is released, it will be fast and responsive. ^^

Nobody can deny the great features this phone has..
I only got one MAJOR concern..
wether or not symbian OS had it's best days already.. you see android really taking the lead.. win.mob.7 comming, meamo on nokia n900 seems not bad aswell..
this thing really could be bad for the n8 sellings

i had 5800, 5230, then x6. the homescreen works very fine. actually its user friendly and smooth. the accelerometer is very useful.
