taste, 28 Apr 2010yes. that's my taste. You're just too love with N97 (and ke... moreYou has a strange taste, but I don't have problems with you because of it. Every person is different, but how many people said that this is ugly, and how many said it it NOT ugly. I think 70% said it is ugly, that is the problem. So, many people will not buy it. It is a great camera phone, with the camera I don't have problems, maybe it is better than the Satio. :)

Facts :
Smartphones VS multimedia/camphones
Choose the OS :
Samsung :
Omia HD : Symbian | camphone
galaxy : Android | Smartphone
SE :
Vivaz : Symbian | Camphone
Satio : Symbian | Camphone
X10 : Android | Smartphone
HTC :
Desire : Android | Smartphone
Nexus : Android | Smartphone
EVO : Android | Smartphone
Nokia :
N900 : Maemo | Smartphone
N8 : Symbian | Camphone
Fact : Manufacturers use symbian when building a camphone because of low background processing. If the N8 had MeeGo as OS it would fail recording 720p @ 25FPS.
When manuf. want to build a smartphone they dismiss symbian because of many things.
Result N8: Multimedia/Camphone. Becuase Nokia chose symbian and a very nice cam to put on.
Bottom of the story : Not comparable with smartphones.

Nokia start making the cheaper mobile phone and it is good news for me(@_@). .as a nokia fan i know nokia always bring the big disadvantage to their product because of business strategy and we have to except that,i like n8, but please nokia don ever put the disadvantage at the battery life,i suffer enough having the inadequate battery life mobile like n96 n n80. .i hope n8 has a great battery life better than n97,
if anyone here has news about the n8 price and battery life ,give me link please!

Anonymous, 28 Apr 2010"This phone could be compared with : Vivaz, Omnia HD, ... moreIf nokia had put anything other than Symbian I would maybe considered arguing this point. Let's take plain simple facts.
- low screen resolution.
- TFT
- small app store.
- much smaller processor
- much less RAM and ROM
......
From what do this phone differ from the Omnia HD, satio or Vivaz? It has a better cam? You bet.

These times, Samsung is gorgeous for me. S8500Wave first to be release(June?) and I9000, I8520Beam M8920(maybe).
But very happy with the new Nokia N8. Finally Nokia makes a great new High-End model. Just a little later (2-3 months later Samsung S8500 or new I-Phone) but Nokia back in the battle !
N8 is really GREAT just despite by screen resolution (and NO Amoled)...

Anonymous, 28 Apr 2010Its really a nice fone, i want one. BUT, onli 640x360 displ... moreThe 640x360 resolution is a symbian restriction. Whatever screen you put on it you can't take the resolution higher than that. That's why the N900 is the only one with higher resolution, it uses Maemo.
Symbian was designed with the old market in mind. They didn't expect the mobile phones to get so laptop. Fail.
That's one of the many reasons why symbian should be dropped. Go for MeeGo, Winmo, android. You don't have to have your own proprietary OS, look at the laptop market. Do each brand have their own OS? Imagine a world of proprietary OSs. It would really suck.

@Dawgert: 1.OLED display consume quite less energy than TFT
2.New OS has been optimized to low consumption.
3.Double RAM added is quite good to save battery.

Its a N-series, not a multimedia/camera toy for Samsung fans and other unaware buyers. Comparing it to Nexus One is valid, and it loses...

Its really a nice fone, i want one. BUT, onli 640x360 display resolution, same as 5800 (which i still have), thats not good enough, after using N900 for a while i am convinced that the web must be browsed in landscape mode with a high vertical resolution (N900 is 800x480, 3.5 inch also). I would get Nexus One over N8, the higher display resolution is a very big advantage for comfortable web browsing.
But still need full flash support in the browser for both of them, until i see that happen the N900 is still the onli realistic alternative. So hows the hope for real flash on N8? I think Nexus one is the stronger candidate with its 512MB RAM, flash likes RAM!
I also searched up some 720P video recorded with N8, great picture and colors, but the dropped frames man! The hardware is not up to handling this resolution, same as N900, didnt Nokia learn that yet? My old N96 does better, its smooth and quite clear 640x480@30FPS. Whats the point of HD when its choppy? Thats is called a slide-show with sound, not video...
I will keep my eyes on this, maybe things improve with firmware revisions, but for sure it has too low resolution display, thats the biggest disadvantage here, everyone who used N900 or Nexus One know that 800x480 is MUCH better.

For anyone who already or will try to make this the superphone of the century :
ITS A MULTIMEDIA PHONE. or more like a cam phone.
So if you like cam phones, with nothing else inside it. buy it. If you don't make the cam a priority in the phone then buy anything else.
Comparing with 3GS, desire, nexus, X10, HD2, Galaxy S, Wave... IS QUITE SIMPLY STUPID. Because they fall in a different range.
This phone could be compared with : Vivaz, Omnia HD, Satio... The other cam phones in the market.
PS : Symbian really sucks. Please Nokia, drop it and I will consider buying a nokia.

Mobilemaster, 27 Apr 2010Are you trying to say, that this is cooler than the awesome... moreyes. that's my taste. You're just too love with N97 (and keep lurking at the monitor all the time afraid of your reputation being down in this board, which is already done) and you haven't already try or see this N8 yet. N97 has boring look (and boring color too), it has that 5800 express music look. you just too much talky-talky, and you can't force someone into loving design he/ she didn't like. Like you force someone into loving man/ chic he/ she didn't like.
cheers
