MdN8, 15 Mar 2014S40 has really come a long way, hasn't it? OK it's no smart... moreS40 has came a really long, long way. In my opinion, most of the mobile operating systems are mainly inspired by S40. Take a look at any Samsung java phone, you can clearly feel the UI is a copied version of original S40. Coincidence but I used my N8 to find the Nokia X2-01. I have used many Samsung, Sony Ericsson, LG Java phones and the problem with all of them was that most of the Java applications wouldn't work in them but with S40 operating system, most of the java apps work fine and I came to know it after using Nokia X2-01, my second S40 phone. :) Nokia used to be the best manufacturer of Java phones as no other Java phones could match the level of optimization as Nokia back then and still it's the same. I'm wondering how to modify themes.(:

I have been using n8 since 4 years(2014-2014) still i love my n8. I love its body. It is solid and also style. The screen got some scratchs simply. Color is wearing off. In recent days it is hanging, it stops to respond. But power key do respond. If we hold is for 6 secs it will shut down. Over all its a very nice phone. No other phone can beat its dody design and camera

OK it's no smartphone but my X2-00 has some features my E51 doesn't, USB on-the-go, two speakers, flashlight etc. Good file manager and you can get alternative cool Java apps with zip, rar, Bluetooth ftp etc which makes it more competent than an iPhone in some ways. :-) Cheap phone but so user friendly it brings a smile on your face, just a good normal phone. And the themes are awesome, learned how to make and modify them, got a bunch of them on Zedge. Lucky you, X2-01 has a Qwerty keyboard. Never had a phone with one and I do type a lot. Last year I was without internet for a while and used the X2 for everything to stay in contact with people, with Nokia Xpress Browser or Opera Mini. Actually I bought my N8 after finding it in the classifieds and emailing the guy from my X2. :-)

Pretty cool phone but there's one problem, it can't recognize my SD card due to issue with hardware but other phone does and its facia is changed by a third-party one. Damn cool phone. It's the best ever Java phone I have ever owned. High 5

More news: we have a new app store now, called AppList! It's created by AllAboutSymbian and some helping hands. You can download it here:
http://applist.schumi1331.de/download
It looks and works similar to Nokia Store. Some essential apps are already there, and there will be more. Best Symbian related news this year!

Opera Mini 8 is available, but only Java version. I don't think there will ever be a .sis version. Still, it's new, new design, it has some new options (night mode, more privacy etc) and it works. So far. :-)
If you want to try it, go to http://m.opera.com/ with your default browser, select "Other download options" and "Opera Mini 8".
I'm still testing it.

Damian Dinning, 10 Mar 2014Which route will you go in case your beloved N8 someday sto... moreThankfully I've a Nokia N95 lying somewhere in the drawer. It's in new condition, haven't used it very much. N8 is my daily dose now and I hope it stays with me forever. I know electronic devices are fragile and can't last for a lifetime, someday it has to stop working and if my N8 ever stops working, I'd start to use my N95 which has a great camera and great multimedia capabilities. I'd try to grab a Sailfish OS based phone because I had a dream to own the N9 but I couldn't because it wasn't available in my country. Currently I'm saving as much as possible. iOS is out of my reach, Android a big no because of too much fragmentation and a low end Android is laggy, not interested in Firefox OS, Ubuntu isn't even out yet, WP maybe I'd consider if it gets all the lacking features, BB 10 OS no, Sailfish OS looks cool with refreshing UI so I'd try to get one. Have a nice day, sir. (:

Damian Dinning, 10 Mar 2014Which route will you go in case your beloved N8 someday sto... moreS40. :-) I have an X2-00 in good condition so I'd just put my Sim card back into it and hope to find something used and affordable, possibly another N8. I also have an E51 but X2 has a better camera and when I'm outside with my dog that's more important than internet, apps and wifi. It took me a year of saving and searching - and a little luck because there was nothing really urgent - to get my dream phone in good condition at an OK price, and I don't think I could perform a stunt like that again. Prices are still almost the same as a year ago. As for the rest, Sailfish and BlackBerry are out of my reach, I'm not even looking at iOS (not much to look at), everyone has an Android and I don't want to go there. The next update for WP8 sounds promising, still, anything with a good camera is "rich people" stuff. :-) Maybe a cheap/est Nokia or a "whatever" Chinese Android just to watch movies on and surf the internet, and a "real" camera? Or something with MIUI although they aren't exactly available in Europe. Still have to see a review of Ubuntu or Firefox. Seriously, whatever I choose I'd lose a bunch of things I have now, and get a bunch that I don't need, first of them being huge data consumption. :-/ Thank you for dropping by and much respect! :-)

Nokia cancelled support for Symbian (in January, even though they promised support until 2016) and only Nokia partners can update old apps. No more new apps from partners or independent developers. Foursquare had an update, and maybe some others will get updates, but Line doesn't exist for Symbian and never will. I don't use any messengers, but anyway, we can use what we have and hope that it doesn't stop working. Or, if it stops, that someone fixes it, officially or not.
