AnonD-1124, 18 Mar 2011Nobody is denying that there are defective units. I'm query... moreThe presumption was not mine but Eldar Murtazin's and never in my posts did I put any statistics about the ratio of the defective unite. I think you are confusing me with another poster who said the defect rate of the N8 is at 70%.

Mine only defective screen "purple" problem, but the other features are perfect as of now.
If it is true that the N8 amoled screen is from Samsung then Samsung intentionally sabotage Nokia. Why Nokia didn't produce their own capacitive touch screen? Why they need to buy from other manufacturers? Of course it is a competition, If you are that wise are you going to trust your direct opponent?

After constantly finding more and more things that just simply don't work with the N8 I thought I'd attempt to do one last thing before getting a new phone; let people know about this brutal rip-off. While on a bus I discovered that e-mails don't send from this phone either. Just yesterday this phone was sending my responses to text messages to the wrong people - quite unacceptable and if I heard someone else talk about it I probably wouldn't even believe that a phone can allow for THAT bad of a screw up. I've never had a phone that wasn't dropped with a minute, honestly I'm with Rogers and people call me expecting it now. It's embarrassing. The battery life is terrible and while it's charging I need to baby it to make sure that it's charging. The battery meter only has 100%, 70%, 40%, 10% and one more but it's not even worth remembering when these indications are usually quite incorrect. The HDMI plug-in never worked - tried on two different televisions. The phone is constantly freezing and just closing and opening things randomly, just the most bizzare and frustrating glitches ever so frequently. Texting takes life times, the phone is SO slow and laggy that it takes about 10 seconds to read a received text ...IF lucky and the phone doesn't just close the message just as you're about to see it. The camera is great, but nothing else even works.

just wondering if any Apple laptop users have experience of using this phone? Can it be used a modem for a Mac? Any other major deal breaker issue? Thanks a lot for the help. Declan

Hi. Got my N8 for about a month now. My 1st touch screen and 1st Nokia since the 3210 (long time ago when still plain black and white screens). Have been using Sony Ericsson ever since but bought N8 'cos of camera and features.
Very happy with it. Fantastic pics from camera - can zoom right in and still very clear (haven't used night shots much). Very responsive touch screen but predictive text can be a pain.
Web browsing ok, but prefered my old SE.
Ovi store ok, but good applications can be pricey (here in South Africa).
No purple screen on mine and build quality seems good.
When I tried the headphones that came with the phone - great sound (though I wish that the phone had stereo speakers), couldn't get the music player buttons on them to work. Have since updated the phone via the ovi store (+-172mb) but haven't tried the headphones again.
All in all, I recommend the N8. It does all I wanted it to do and more.
I was actually waiting for the Motorola Milestone 2 to be released in SA, but there was no word on it's arrival and I couldn't wait, so I got the N8. At least there won't be any problems as N8 has no slider mechanism.
Nokia N8 = 8.9 / 10 (marked down for Ovi apps, browser and no stereo speakers on phone)
And I don't want to get involved in debates / arguments over purple screen and Symbian being a dead platform - when tomorrow comes I will deal with it and upgrade when N8 has served it's useful life with me.
Cheers

I purchased this phone from nokia uk. i took pictures the 1st few days and they where beyond crap! i wanted to return the phone.. lol, but then i realized that i had not removed the protective sticker on the camera because i had the silicone case on it. after that? pictures are amazing and the phone itself as well.
Well, I am pretty happy with the software versatility, as in, before i bought this phone i looked at all other high end phones on the market. droids in my opinion are all just droids, now there is very minimal variance between brands its just a sea of droids, in terms of ui there is no phone like mine out of the millions because i have been able to personalize the phone vastly with themes, home-screen apps such as spb and grid which are so cool. My phone is very easy for me to use and when i want to it can be so personalized that my peers have no idea how to do simple tasks as make a simple call. which i think is a very astonishing feature. i mean a phone should adopt to you not vice versus.
Multi tasking is top notch!
email notifications are always on point, i am able to view them as they are. the flash support on the browser is amazing can watch any video on the internet.
computer syncing is very useful, usb on the go brilliant.
Well there a many features on the pone and enough useful apps. ovi is inferior to app store and the droid store but it still has all the useful apps you may need.
the problems i have faced on this device though, no default browser text re-flow, the portrait key board covers the whole screen. I have not found a dedicated youtube app like the cnn live app even though the youtube on the phone is still functional i would prefer a dedicated one like on the n97. Battery life is not bad, compared to the i phone 4 which my brother uses, i charge my phone less often and i do not have an ipod like him cause i use my phone and the gps on it all the time but it still lasts longer.
Any way, i don't have a job to review devices if i did i would give you all the full details so you may make a definite decision about getting this device however in conclusion, i think its a very good phone and its the best for me at the moment on the market just a bit more development on the browser and typing otherwise, i am satisfied and having looked at other devices 1st hand i think i would be missing out if i did not get one. at the end of the day its all up to your priority's as the user weather you looking for eye candy and simplicity or if you looking for a working customizable device with all the fictions you need apart from bbm which u can get on a cheap phone.
