Nokia announced in a press conference during the phones production, that they added a treble stabilizer, a bass booster, and a warmth stereo high quaility output for both the headphones and external speakers, making its sound exceed that of the Nokia N95

almost a great fone with a lot of good features but, 2 megapixels for this kind of fone?! WTF! whats wrong with nokia?! also the 8gb version doesnt have an sd card. and they havent upgraded to xenon flash. they do have the new n82 yet it looks like an SE-k500 fone. now im thinking if i'll buy a new one to replace my n6680 or i should wait for years for a better release.

In my country, Nokia is selling this phone for 600$!

          It's simply a theft.

No autofocus, cheap plastic casing, poor wifi.

          Greedy company!

          I won't buy Nokia anymore.

Just got my N81 and i think its a great little phone. I was quite happy with my 6280 and saw this phone as a 'Smart' alternative at least design wise. Very happy so far, but just a quick query...

When the display backlight goes out you get the 'status bar' that tells you the time and whether you have received a text message or have a missed call. Mine displays for around 60 secs and then the screen goes completely black (power saving) and this status bar is no longer displayed. Sure this is great for battery life, but id rather know if id missed a call or had a text waiting

So far this is the only problem i have with the phone. Any one know if its possible to change this?

Or is there a button like on the sony ericcsons where you can hit the volume control and the screen lights up briefly without fully breaking power saving mode?

My friends have N95s and the status bar stays up for them permanantly.. IVe tried changed teh power saving theme and various other bits and bobs with no effect..Any thoughts?

and you all talk about the phone but no one has said how good the call quality is sending and recieving and what about signal strenth does it drop calls alot at all

              I made a quick test of N91-2, N95 8Gb and N81 8Gb, test track was Depeche Mode - It's No Good as a 320 kbs MP3 and headphones were Audio Technica ATH-W5000.

N91-2 bass was a bit bloated and overlapped the mids. In that quick test, I couldn't make a definite audible difference between the new N95 and the N81. They both had balanced frequency response extending lower than iPod Nano 2nd gen, though they clearly lacked detail in high frequencies compared to it. Appearantly Nokia has fixed the N95 problems in this 8Gb version.

I stress that this was only a quick test with one song.

                      Hey MESSI,
You talked lot bout SOUND QUALITY?
How about a comparison to N91?
Is it better than N91 or is it the same?

Nokia 81 is truely a great handset, and is recommended to every Nokia [Symbian Lover]. A Great device, in other way the Nokia N81 is a challenge to "Apple's iPOD or iPhone's" sound quality.

Nokia 81 a Smart looking handset (well finished) with shiny metal body is a glossy product. The best thing which impressed me was the "Sound Quality" in Headphones. The sound quality of Nokia N81 seemed a bit better than that of Apple's iPhone.

The loudspeaker of Nokia N 81 - 8 GB surprisingly have the BEST Sound Quality. I can say that, when compared to Sony Ericsson's W810 (or some later models) the sound quality of Nokia N 81 seemed better than SE's handsets.

Sound Quality is the most surprising thing (atleast for Nokia) since all previous handsets had Mediocre sound quality in Headphones and Poor quality in Loudspeaker. But this time Nokia has came up with really something above all. Great sound quality in Headphones as well as in Loudspeaker.

2MP camera is a mediocre. Not very good at quality (as expected), but however is reliable for taking outdoor images.

The speed of handset while browsing through the menu's is really very fast, just works as fast as any other DUMMY (without OS) handset like Sony Ericssons's W or K series or Samsung's handsets (sorry for calling them DUMMY but they really are since they do not have any OS).

I would recommend Nokia N81-8GB edition to every Music lover, because of its outstanding SOUND QUALITY which place it on the top of the list of best music phones.

Also, the main feature of this handset attracts GAMES lovers (N-gage Platform) with high graphics, and the first time introduced "Navigation Wheel" is a great addition (with a Standby mode light).

I have been using apple's iPhone as well, but would prefer Nokia N81 over it due to its better sound quality.

Truely, a beautiful device for entertainment

Originally, phones were made for calling other people. Nowadays, phones have become computers are are more complicated to use. This is why we have laptops!
