Hi all. When you open the back cover you can see a black and gold piece of metal just below the battery.it feels like a heatsink type of metal.ne1 know what that is?

Tsepz, 10 Jul 2008That missing 4MB of RAM is probably being taken up by the M... moreYour're right man, that the menu animation that cause the RAM drop, but as I said before, there is no option to turn it off.

That missing 4MB of RAM is probably being taken up by the Menu Animations and Transitions, turn them off (if you can) and reboot the phone and im sure you'll regain that lost RAM ,and then some. When in Menu click Options and see if you can Turn Off the effects there otherwise check Settings.

hello guys especially n81/n81 8gb users! i have a couple of questions because im planning of buying this phone. i dont care wat people say. im already aware of its pros and cons.
1.does the n81 have the wavy pattern in back, the battery cover, same with the back side of n82 n78 n96?
2.the n81 8gb is only available in mocha trim only right? i have seen in the nseries website that n81 (not the 8gb but the microsd edition) is available in 2 color trims: cobalt blue & warm graphite. i only see n81 in cobalt blue. havent seen the warm graphite trim of n81 but i find that even more beautiful than the mocha trim of n81 8gb. who among you have the n81 (microsd edition) in warm graphite trim? warm graphite looks like silver as i have seen in pictures. i dont like the cobalt blue trim because it looks cheap and the naviwheel is also in blue trim.

I don't understand why people comment -ve views about this phone. Excepts from cramp key pad layout, the rest is fine with me. It is a great phone and I would say allrounder.

Just a piece of advice. People who are thinking it's a cool phone and planning to buy it, better get the N78 instead. I'm telling you, there's nothing new with N81 8GB. The features it has were already there 2 years ago. You'll find it very boring eventually and end up selling it like what I did with mine. I don't think firmware updates will save this phone from disgrace. N78 is what N81 should've become in the first place. I can describe N81 as merely a N76 with wifi, naviwheel, gaming buttons & stereo speakers in slider form factor only!

If there is demand paging or not I don't know, but the fact is that after the firmware upgrade (without installing other applications that might be the cause of a normal drop of RAM) my RAM after the boot is 4 mgb less then it was before the upgrade. Unfortunately there is no way back to downgrade the firmware.
Think well if really need the upgrade and wait for the comments from the people who sacrificed their phones to help you!

I have upgraded the firmware of my N81 8gb to 20.0.056 last night. My product code was 0545885 (no upgrade yet for it), but I'd flashed the product code of the phone to 0557927 and there was an upgrade.
Not that excited about new firmware though. The only visible changes are the menu animation (kind of transition effects when the windows open) and navi-weel is enabled in the phone book (might be working somewhere else, I don't know, 'couse not using it. The green rotating circle (a la Vista) appeared on the right top corner of the display indicating the loading and processing. I didn't come over any other changes yet.
The transition effects do slow down the phone a lot when browsing. I coudn't find the option to turn them off! Now it takes longer to boot the phone and the screen flashes few times after being just started.
My phone used to have 42 mgb of RAM after the boot, now it dropped down to 38 mgb. This is very essential for multitaskig.
The only good thing is that all my data and installed programs were left untouched in the phone!
The long waited firmware upgrade disappointed me. I would rather flash the product code back to what I had and downgrade if it's possible, untill the real benefits of the new firmware show up.
Thank you for your attention.

I had this phone for about 4 days and I can say it's superb!!! The only thing i dislike a little is that it feels quite fragile and my n81 8gb battery only lasts a day with around 50 mins of calls and 100 smses and 30 min loudspeaker music play per day. However, I still love this phone as it can surf the web, cool design, a symbian phone(can install lots of programs) acceptable camera etc...
But, I don't know how to send a .sis file from my phone to my friend's phone through bluetooth, whenever I try to send, they will say cannot send protected file, and there are quite a few cases that I cannot install a few .sis programs, it will display file not supported... so can any kind soul please tell me how or what program to install into my phone. Thanks...

Can those mobile phone brands think of their original concept? Nothing does it better like Apple. Aren't you wondering why a newcomer in mobile phone industry can all in a while shake the ground of already established mobile phone giants like nokia, samsung, se, motorola & lg? nowadays, it's easy to put every high tech features & technologies in a phone, that's where nokia is best. but it's so hard to put up a unique and revolutionary touch in a device, that's what Apple is about. don't call it overhype. Apple didn't get all the hypes for nothing!
