Vice, a VGA screen means that the resolution is 640*480 pixels. In the case of both N82 and N86 the screen is QVGA which is only 320*240 pixels.
VGA camcording describes the resolution that the phone records video. It is 640*480 pixels on both devices. VGA recording can be at different speeds eg 15fps and 30fps. The latter gives a far better result, and thankfully is seen in both devices.
As for Xenon flash, it is simply the best. If it wasn't, digicams wouldn't use it. By making this an 8MP phone, Nokia is highlighting its photographic abilities. The dual LED simply lets the phone down. How can you have 8MP with dual LED? It is quite ridiculous and if this nonsense continues Nokia will lose credibility.
As a light source for camcording, third generation dual LED is barely passable. Yet be aware that this phone is being touted for its photographic ability and not camcording. They should have made sure that the photography section has the best......and the best is Xenon flash.
A compromise to this dire situation would have been to use Xenon for stills and LED for video ie have both on the device.
I have noticed that this phone does not have 3D Graphics Hardware Acceleration. Another addition to the long list of absentees!

vice, 22 Mar 2009I own a N82 and maybe it's just my unit or current firmware... morexenon flash has a tendensy to do that, the dual leds on the nokia n86 they say are far more better just not in brightness but and they say that they are bright inough for night photography, by the way I was going to get the nokia n82 but then saw this and said no besides is really an ugly duckling as well.

Anonymous, 21 Mar 2009After quiet meditation, I have observed that this is a curi... moreI own a N82 and maybe it's just my unit or current firmware (V30) but the Xenon flash does over do it at times so i don't think i'll miss it all that much compared to dual LEDs. Be it auto, portrait or even worse, night portrait, the flash can be too intense at times and leave a white shine everywhere. I don't know but is there a difference between this VGA screen you talk about and the fact that the phone does record in VGA at 30fps? About the size, a 2.8 size screen would be nice but it comes at the cost of a bulkier phone (N95-4). One might as well get the INNOV8 from Samsung. I love my N82 but i'm getting this phone since I was about to go for the N85 anyway...

People even though this unit dont have a xenon flash, well the 3rd generation dual leds also called power leds can accualy privide the same amount of light as that of a xenon know.
Ive done research and found this out myself, so these 3rd generation leds can offer the same value why would you go for xenon when there is such a limit to the xenon flash, besides technolgy has come a long way, I know there are some people that will not believe this, but xenon is really old and besides nokia would not have put them in if they were know good.
                                cheers josh

In the phones presented at the WMC, the N86 was labelled N85 8Mp. That is just what it is, no need to say more. Poor Nokia, are all their hundreds of engineers on long holydays ? Next step : a 9 or 10 Mpx in the N86, and voila an N87 !
