answer for those who confuse about the N85 8MP
Obviously, Nokia had initially planned it as an upgrade of the popular N85, which by the way is just how it looks. Then they changed their mind but strangely (and quite flagrantly) kept the 8MP label. taken from gsmarena

i think no one read the article made by gsmarena about MWC, so i decided to cut and paste it here:

Nevertheless, the Nokia N86 has one of the most impressively equipped 8 megapixel cameras closing the gap between cameraphones and point-and-shoot cams. It's the first and only cameraphone to offer variable aperture values (F2.4/F3.2/F4.8) and a 28mm wide-angle lens.

You can see the difference between the wide angle and a regular cameraphone lens. Here are two samples of one and the same scene taken simultaneously with a Nokia N86 8MP and another Nokia phone. The samples are downsized to 800x600 pixels as resolution is irrelevant. Just compare the field of view.

The other first-ever is the variable aperture. Having a variable aperture (like a regular digicam) instead of a fixed aperture (like a regular cameraphone) gives you one more way of controlling the amount of light that reaches the camera sensor.

In other words, smaller F aperture numbers let more light in, while higher aperture numbers reduce the incoming light. You still get the same exposure, as the camera compensates for the various aperture settings by varying the shutter speed or the ISO, which are the two other factors that determine the total amount of light that gets in.

But leaving the photography primer aside, the advertized aperture values of Nokia N86 8MP (F2.4/F3.2/F4.8) have two distinctive benefits.

The first benefit is that at F2.4 the N86 camera has more light to work with as compared to the standard F2.8 value of all cameraphones we've seen so far. In low light conditions that allows you to get higher shutter speeds (possibly less handshake blur) or lower ISO (possibly less noise) or even both.

The second benefit from the variable aperture is that when there's enough light, the camera sensor can let the aperture close down a bit more (F3.2/F4.8) thus creating images that are usually sharper and with better depth of focus field.

iolo003, 09 Mar 2009yeah we did c", i was talking about hits, why did you chan... moreThat's like a fanboy. Can't take the negative. LOL. You can count the hits but refuse to see what they are rating..hehehe...So you actually believe that most of the people coming to this page are actually nokia haters? Great guys. You can claim how many 5800 they have sold but refuse to accept the ground reality that they are coming back to Nokia care with great numbers too. You know that's one reason why I visit nokia pages. It amazes me to see how some fanboys go on and on to defend it, sometimes blindly. After all Nokia needs you. Kudos.

i was talking about hits, why did you change the topic to votes? voting here can be manipulated by the haters and the hits are not, hits counts as you visit this site and thats all that matters. the more hits this page got, the better

the more comments made the more interesting it has become. if you really want this phone to fail, stop visiting this page

Bronco, 09 Mar 2009In theory, yes, the 12MP camera CAN record HD videos at 720... morei see why nokia fans still think that N86 is the best..
coz they dont know about the other camera quality out there, they just know about their phone camera..they cant open their eyes to see how many camera qualities are better than N86..even nokia fans dont know about EXMOR CMOS quality..they just focus only on 1 company...it is nokia that just takes and puts camera from the other company.even the nokia CMOS sensor quality is low..how can the camera get a good image without high resolution image and high pixel quality altough this N86 has complete aperture?

nokia fans are blind, they dont see their big weakness, CMOS sensor is the most important to deliver high pixel quality and high resolution image so the aperture will be usefull.

Anyways if that is the case then you should check the "Voting Result" as well, not just the number of hits. It looks pathetic with 6.3/6.6/6.5. Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970In theory, yes, the 12MP camera CAN record HD videos at 720P/1080P. But sorry to disappoint you; it doesn't. If it did, SE would have announced it with the phone at launch to combat he Omnia HD which records in 720P. If the Idou has a smaller battery than the Omnia HD (1500MAh), then there won't even be a point of it being able to record HD videos. The omnia lasts 30 minutes recording at 720P; imagine how little time you would have shooting at 1080P. So it looks like HD recording is unlikely for the Idou.

Sure, it may shoot pictures at a larger resolution than an 8MP camera; but that doesn't mean the pictures are going to be any better than the 8MP's. There are 5MP camera phones out there that can stand up to the 8MP's. From what I can tell, the N86 is more than likely going to have sharper and clearer pictures than the Idou.

Lets put things in perspective, the more people talks about a product wither its good or bad, the more it will create interest, the more interesting the product would become, the bigger the possibility for sales. isn't this one of the laws in marketing?

look at how the sales of N96 defeats innov8, its because N96 is more talk about than innov8.

Same thing will happen between N86 and Idou, interest on N86 is building up faster than Idou nor Samsung HD and at the end will defeat booth in sales.

hey, i found out in Nokia forum about N86, N86 have
