Actually nokia guarantees that the gap between the point and shoot and mobile phone cameras will be removed by them.
They says that the mobile is optimized for low light conditions too. Hence no need of battery draining Xenon that n82 has got.By the way the xenon was not a vice decision to have on cameras.

I think it is a good phone but it is not designed well. Buttons of this phone are very odd. I hope nokia designers will be think about this.

Anonymous, 06 Mar 2009My friend Daniel... you can not spot the winner phone now f... moreyes, you are correct, that opened my eyes, why are we shooting down Sony Ericsson IDOU when it is the one leading the way so that other phone manufacturers improve on their products.

examples of Sony Ericsson IDOU, Apple iPhone and Samsung Innouve are forcing other brands to catch up and improve their boring phones.

Daniel, 05 Mar 2009Oh, come on people, why argue so much on the camera of this... moreMy friend Daniel... you can not spot the winner phone now from among the multitude if you will be talking only of the MUNDANE TASKS A BASIC PHONE should have. At the present stage of technology, all mundane tasks of a phone are already perfected by even the lowest ranked maker.

That leaves to explore features that are WORLD'S FIRSTS, most of these are not the basic phone functions. Examples are global positioning, connectivity and the much contested multimedia.

SONY and ERICSSON have seen these potentials years back to form a joint venture for Entertainment Unlimited.

SONY then introduced their WORLD'S FIRST to a basic phone like the WALKMAN, CYBERSHOTS, ETC.

For all you know, without SONY there in the playing field introducing new concepts and innovations to an otherwise boring calling device... OUR MOBILE PHONES WILL BE ANOTHER BORING "POTS" (primitive old telephone system).

Once again SONY introduced another WORLD'S FIRST... THE COMMERCIALIZATION of "IMX060PQ", a new type 1/2.5 CMOS image sensor of the "Exmor" series, the industry's highest pixel count (12.25 effective megapixel resolution).

"IMX060PQ" is designed to meet the increasing need for advanced image quality within mobile phone enabled cameras".

With the introduction of that another word's first, all other phone makers will be doing their homework around-the-clock to catch up.

SONY'S leadership on innovations makes our world of mobile phones more exciting...

MUCH CREDIT IS DUE TO SONY in particular and SONY ERICSSON in general.... because without those challenges... all of us will be feed by Nokia with THOSE BORING BASIC CALLING DEVICES.

I'm not doing anything against the N86. But initial image quality is poor, just like the initial N95 shots. They will be improved over several updates.

As for the multiple apertures... its funny because a smaller aperture (Larger f-stop) doesn't mean a shaper picture - its actually the opposite. With a higher f-stop you get a larger Depth of Field and compensate some sharpness overall. Just check out the shots for the Canon 50mm f/0.95, and you will get what I'm saying.

If only this phone has built-in xenon flash, then it's perfect. LED light flash won't statisfy the photo quality in dark condition.

Oh, come on people, why argue so much on the camera of this phone?

I understand, there are some features (related to the camera, of course) that have never been in a mobile phone before. And I understand that there are some guys out there that just fail to grasp the meaning of a variable aperture and wide-angle lens. And I understand that there are people with regressive ideas that just say "you want good photos, buy a digital camera", "camera development in a phone is useless, that will never reach the standard of a digital camera" and things like that. But *that* is *not* the subject of this forum. At least, in my view.

Let's talk about the phone itself instead.

First of all, is it good at ringing and making calls? It will certainly be, as it's a Nokia phone, and Nokia phones have never disappointed when it comes to basic stuff like that.

How about music? Will it have the audio quality compared to N85 or 5800 XpressMusic, or even the almighty N91? A bit early to say, but as it is the successor of the N85 (remember, it was initially N85 8MP), I think it will live up to the expectations. About videos, I can't really say a 2.6 inch display is large enough for you to watch movies, but clips should do fine.

The much-hyped camera seems very, very promising, as it will have some features never before seen in a mobile phone. I'm not going to speak about photo quality yet, because it is very early. However, the wide-angle lens does make a difference even at this stage (check out the N86 hands-on from GSMArena).

All I can say is that, even though this device promises a lot, only a real retail unit will give us the answers we want.

If someone has seen other in-depth reviews/previews/camera shootouts than GSMArena, please post them here. I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to know.

Nokia does not make its own imagers and lenses... give credit to whoever made those components for Nokia... and not Nokia itself.

till now, Nokia has been buying the majority of their low- and mid-range CMOS sensors from the Swiss STMicroelectronics, but switched to the Korean producer because it’s faster than STMicroelectronics in bringing new products to the market"

their sensor quality is low and nokia did it again that they use CMOS sensor from the other company.Even nokia cant make a low CMOS sensor quality.Nokia is just a nokia phone and NOTHING!
