WinMo has a clear world record in losing marketshare fast, in only one quarter it collapsed, and renaming it to Windows Phone was the "cure". WP is the same crap as WinMo in a new wrapping. It worked before, its what they did to Vista, "hey lets not call it Vista II, instead we rename it to Windows7 and hope people will not notice that its still just as bloated and slow as the first Vista". It worked, Win7 became a success.
Nokia will not ditch WP because they got their man on the inside, as long as Elop stays in charge we cannot expect Nokia to make a comeback in high end devices. I do however doubt that Elop can go on forever as CEO, but it will take too long time. Comparable with what happened to AMD; Hector Ruiz stayed too long, the damage he did was irreversible, resulting in sold factories and watever, AMD almost turned into an IP company (intellectual property), the only thing that stopped them from doing so was the x86 license from Intel, it forbid them to do such a thing! Intel "saved" AMD.
nokia dont have anyone to save them from being split up and sold out. We all know where Nokias smartphone division will end up, that is Elops plan since long ago, that Microsoft buys the part they want for a low price.
Theres no use for meego in this scenario, making meego a success will only prolong the suffering and microsoft has to wait even longer before they can get their hands on Nokias smartfone division. Killing meego was not Nokias desicion, surely it was part of the deal with microsoft, "publicly kill meego now and we will throw in an extra discount and developer resources into your WP lineup in return".

It sells better than ALL the lumia phones so it has a biger user base! N900 has a smaller user base than N9 and look at maemo.org to see how much this phone is supported by community. So, even if Nokia will not support it (and I think Nokia will rethink this if Lumia does not succeed, and accordind to the last numbers it does not), the community will do!
