    Early verdict
Overall, it's hard to work out our opinion of the Nokia N9. The Finnish brand is making very little mention of the fact the phone is running MeeGo, as it seemingly doesn't want to crowd consumers' heads with multiple operating systems.
The new home screen design is innovative and different, although a little simplistic. We can see how Nokia is trying to be different here, but we're not sure if we're fans just yet.
Our main worry is the support - the Nokia N900 was a cracking and heart-breakingly under-loved device, and given the focus on Symbian and Windows Phone 7 it's hard to see many more MeeGo devices emerging, despite it clearly being a better OS than Symbian ever had been.

For Rupee 32,000/- this handset is way too costly. no value for money. i would rather buy a Spice MI410...which is half the rate and way more impressive with specs. Nokia should enter in the segment of between high end and budget like Samsung did with ACE and WAVE2. if somebody still wants to spend this much amount of money...better to buy an iPhone. (my personal view,no disrespect to anyone.)

I am keeping my options open ATM with reguards to study i have no time to waste on useless study with no apparent future.

The user interface on this n9 harmattan phone is locked down. And it's not open. Meego os might be open source and all but nokia will not let anybody copying their swype based ui to anybody. Be it htc, samsung,lg,motorola or sony ericsson. And did you not seen it's multitasking screen which is awesome. Android developers cannot copy everything about this awesone harmattan ui......

It is a meaningful image that characterize a company or group. All registered & major companies in the world have logos. if you found the divx logo on your phone or media player meaning it can play divx files. you don't have to read the whole manual to prove that your player can play dvd or mp3 if you found the dvd or mp3 logos printed on it. the recycle logo reminds us to recycle things if it is printed in any products we bought. logos are important. why you are reacting like a kid.

Maemo 5 is a modified version of the Debian Linux distribution, slimmed down for mobile devices which uses an X Window System-based graphical user interface.

Using Xomap and the Matchbox window manager; the GUI uses the GTK+ toolkit and Hildon user interface widgets and API.

Maemo 6 Harmattan isn't using Hildon User Interface + the GTK+ toolkit, instead using full Qt toolkit & libraries.

So the Nokia N9 is only running essentially a newer version of Maemo called Maemo 6 codenamed Harmattan. It is only a transition towards MeeGo. The N9 is not running a full version of MeeGo.

Maemo 6 harmattan the newest & latest & last OS with Qt should pave the way to new OS's... according to some sources Nokia may be working on a New OS that may or may not be MeeGo. It will be Qt based.

That makes sense as Nokia's devices throughout the ecosystem are building with Qt development framework so all apps will seamlessly run across multiple platforms.

Don't forget it is not Pure MeeGo. Harmattan has in it's genes more in common with Maemo.

The N9 is already dead before it even arrives.

Nokia should have prioritize MeeGo over WP7.

I'm not saying nokia intends to rename the platform, i'm saying they're starting with something else from scratch.

“... It has many UX, design and material innovations that we are going to
use and expand upon in forthcoming devices. I cannot tell you about them
more clearly yet, but you’ll see soon (what I mean).”

There is alot of information in that Elop quote. Especially when we run it parrallel with what we already know to be facts.

He is clearly stating that nokia intend to continue with the UI introduced in the n9 but on a different platform of which he can't speak about. What platform is that?

The SG2 interface looks like a big pile of ste... moreThe user interface on S2 can easily be changed by the user, soon there probably will be a user interface on the Android Market that looks and feels just like the one on N9. Swyping to move to the homescreen in any game/app will be a problem because a swype withing a game/app can move the user to the homescreen without he/she wanting to. It is better to have a hardware button/key to press to move to the homescreen from within any app/game, and it is better to unlock the screen with a hardware key because if it is activated using gestures then it need to be constantly "on", draining battery, and if you have it in your pants pocket it will activate waiting for that second tap because even capacitive screens activate through thin pants, just place your finger behind your t-shirt and then touch the screen on your N8...
N9 will not have Android Market so you will not be able to easily use Android apps on N9.
