the n9 doesn't run meego. It runs harmmattan which is nokia own
project. The ui on this device is nokias proprietory software and not
meego.
The reasons for the positive response the n9 got were
-the ui
-Qt support
Like i said earlier, regarding the ui, its not meego.
“It has many UX, design and material innovations that we are going to
use and expand upon in forthcoming devices. I cannot tell you about them
more clearly yet, but you’ll see soon (what I mean).” -Elop
That
is elop telling you in plain english that nokia would continue/improve
this ui in forthcoming devices. Heck they made a video to show of the ui
plus a manual on how to go around it. Do you think they did that just
for the n9?
Here are the facts.
1 Nokia intends to continue with the ui on future devices.
2 Nokia intends to continue with Qt.
3 WP does not, can not and will never support Qt
4 Nokia is discontinuing meego.
Do the math. Nokia is developing a new os with Qt at heart and a similar ui to that shown on the n9.

Keep both MeegGo and Windows Phone 7 devices. If Nokia don't keep MeeGo for future, then consumers will not buy Nokia N9.

AnonD-11312, 26 Jun 2011Nokia's Stephen Elop is still over MeeGo, even if the N9 is... moreabandoning meego doesn't make meego a dead platform. Elop announced in nokia connection that Qt will lives on next billion S40 devices and qt is an ecosystem. so that means meego has an ecosystem and it has a great support in future. note that qt is a sdk tool, to write the code once and deploy the software to different platform.meego is qt.

Nokia's Stephen Elop is still over MeeGo, even if the N9 is a hit.
An awful lot has been happening in Nokialand over the past week. A few days ago, we spent our first real quality moments with the much discussed N9, and we were pretty blown away by the MeeGo smartphone. Fast forward a mere two days, and we catch wind of a pretty suspicious looking leak of "Sea Ray," the company's first Windows Phone handset where else but sitting firmly in the hand of CEO Stephen Elop. Just in case that brand of corporate subtlety didn't quite drive the point home, the executive gave an interview with Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat this week, confirming the nearly universal suspicion that it will abandon the Linux-based OS. Elop told the paper that, even if the N9 proves a massive hit, Nokia is going to turn its attention to other, more Windows Mobiley things.

Paul Troy, 26 Jun 2011Yes,i agree it COULD have been a really knock your socks of... moreFunctionally work restrictions prevent, I will NEVER buy a phone without expansion. It does make you wonder if the 'sea ray' WP7 will be the N9 with these omissions added (sad as this has copy & paste) It's all this waiting as I fell for the SGSII, now I have to wait for another Nokia as I have ONLY ever used Symbian OS, & I love it. Not a case of SGSII v N9, but Nokia smartphone and a.n.other. I have to wait to have a Nokia touchscreen. I am blown away by what IS included and shocked by the omissions. What you say may prove right Nokia looking to the future, but given that this was a 'one off, I don't see it challenging WP7. People have common sense to wait for the 'supported' OS. 95% daily interest, shows that Nokia still know how to wow, It's just the 'nooooo!' in this case.

Anonymous, 26 Jun 2011Even Symbian & Nokia doesn't have beautiful recognizabl... moreAnd for all their logos, I'm pretty sure NOKIA has far better global brand recognition.
There are very few people on the planet that don't know what Nokia is, but I bet you could find people who couldn't recognize Android logo quite easily...
