You are right about the phone functionality to a certain degree. when you do make calls though its reception and call quality is top notch like all nokia phones. Also, if you really look at it, you cant name another phone on the market that can do what this one cant. not one!. not to mention this is almost 2 yr old technology. It is for geeks though. if you want to control anyones tv or ps3 and freak them out this is the device for that. if you want to use ps3 remote to play your games this is it. You cant name another on the market that can do these things.

If you are on wifi and playing songs while surfing on net, then battery can't hold more than a day (name me just one cellphone that it can).
Screen should be enough bright (except if you like eye-burning brightness). Try to change theme to some brighter, maybe this will help you.
Multitasking and internet is great on n900, and much more ;)

It's very basic as a phone, and so/so as internet tablet. Still because of linux os it's powerful device.
If you treat phone as a tool, I honestly do not recommend it. On the other hand if you treat phone functionality as secondary and want pocket pc, with very small screen, short battery life and not affraid going technical it would reward you with great power.
I have IT background and consider this device great but my personal opinion is that nokia created this device as experimental and left it behind rejecting some basic issues/fixes. Now support, functionality is mostly in the hands of community, which tries at it best but cannot provide vendor-grade support. In the end this phone needs lots of patience, bit of technical knowledge and some time to good use. I would recommend it to my IT friend, but not to my parents. It's not good device for casual user.

myster, 30 Dec 2010Does the N900 use Dual sim card?No, Nokia's n900 can not use 2 SIM cards.
However be aware that there are Chinese copies of n900, and they can use 2 SIM cards!

.exe files are not possible to run for now.
Someone claim that could manage it (there are few youtube videos demonstaring it, but there is no tutorial for it yet).
However if you want to run .exe files written for DOS (not Windows!) you can use Dosbox emulator on it.

If you are rea... moreI didn't said that n900's CPU is slow, I just said that SGS have faster CPU.
And I also said that SGS's CPU is useless with Android on it.

For those who don't want to watch, the one guy have compared n900 (with NITdroid on it) and SGS running Asphalt 5.
My thinking is that both run great and even (though SGS have much better hardware).

Hi, just wondered if anyone could help me. I love my N900 and use the app "Hermes" (which links phone's contacts to your social network accounts eg Facebook). I upgraded the Hermes app today to v0.8.8 and refreshed my contacts, and now all the pictures of my friends (it uses friends' Facebook profile pictures as the contact image on the phone) are small images and low quality. So it appears as a poor quality, blurry image on the phone. And moreover when used with the Crochik MyContacts widget, the pictures look terrible. Everything was perfect before upgrade to v0.8.8. Has anyone else experienced this problem?? Thanks for any help you can offer!!

One of my favorite features of the phone is the following.
I go to my university, connect to their superfast WiFi, install transmission, and then I can download any torrents to my phone.....
when I get home I just move the files to my pc....
Best phone ever...(if you know how to use linux.)
If you cannot get into a network, you can hack it with aircrack

Now I have decided to... moreIve seen you okes say it has slow CPU....
If you are really tech savvy, install enhanced kernal with root control, and up the cpu's voltage & overclock to 1.2ghz...
There are complete guides for this on maemo's website...
but ofcoarse you will have to part with your warranteeee

i used n900 for a month and what i found was that very basic functions are missing. and one issue with n900 is it is not possible to copy the contacts from the phone memory to the sim memory directly.
battry backup is not good. display is not very bright,lack of potrait mode.
This phone is good for multitasking, and for using the internet.
