This machine is not supposed to be a smartphone. It's a portable workstation with a buildt-in 3G modem.

It is the mobile version of a workstation.

You can even do software development on it.

It is probably the first fully integrated completely mobile usable computer.

The N900 is in its own league period!!!!

Top 10 Cell Phones PC World

                  Nov 13, 2009 11:30 am

                  1. Motorola Droid
                  Keyboard: Yes
Bottom Line: The first Android 2.0 phone impresses with a strong suite of Web features and a stunning 3.7-inch display, but some users might have trouble with the shallow keyboard.

                  2. Apple iPhone 3GS
                  Keyboard: No
Bottom Line: Performance enhancements distinguish the otherwise evolutionary step-up iPhone 3GS from its previous iterations.

                  3. Motorola Cliq
Bottom Line: The beautifully designed Motorola Cliq is a social butterfly’s dream phone, but others may find the MotoBlur user interface overwhelming.

                  4. Research in Motion BlackBerry Bold 9700
Bottom Line: The best BlackBerry available, the Bold 9700 packs a multitude of features into a sophisticated, slimmed-down design.

                  5. T-Mobile myTouch 3G
                  Keyboard: Yes
Bottom Line: The T-Mobile myTouch 3G is a big improvement from its predecessor, but the physical keyboard is sorely missed.

                  6. Palm Pre
                  Form Factor: Candy bar
Bottom Line: The Pre's webOS software is touch-friendly and fun, but the cramped QWERTY keyboard detracts from the phone's usability.

                  7. Samsung Behold II
                  Keyboard: Yes
Bottom Line: With a gorgeous AMOLED display and an excellent camera, the pricey Samsung Behold II will appeal to multimedia junkies with deep pockets.

                  8. Research in Motion BlackBerry Tour 9630
                  Keyboard: Yes
Bottom Line: The BlackBerry Tour entices with an ergonomic keyboard and gorgeous display, but the omission of Wi-Fi disappoints.

                  9. HTC Droid Eris
                  Keyboard: Yes
Bottom Line: If you can live without a hardware keyboard, the HTC Droid Eris is an affordable and feature-packed alternative to the Motorola Droid.

                  10. HTC Hero
                  MegaPixels: 5MP
Bottom Line: The HTC Hero marks a giant step in innovation of the Android platform, but it isn't without flaws

QUESTON! Really lookin forward to owning one of these bad boys......my first Nokia ever......EVER people! (never gettin an iphone, tho the Mac comps are ace).

But yeah, here's my question - says here it has 256 RAM but other sites are saying 1Gb of Ram. Whats up with that? Is the rest virtual or what? Guess that would make sense but I just wanna know.

Sorry in advance if it was a stupid question!

ian, 13 Dec 2009still no solution for the USSD problem, its shows incorrect... morestill, i called al-Ajeas 2daym and asked about the arabic version & said:@( still no information so far, also he added the version they have , is having alot of problems....so the only solution is to wait for the up-date)

but i think these 1st version copies have a problem with the hardware also, so...i told you to wait until it is officially in the retails & always prefered 2nd version..:)

hope your problem be solved in the coming up-date

                              cheers

Nokia N900 is the GOD of all phone and I truly appreciate it in all matters.

HD recording is a must for me and the new OS will truly be my desired phone.

I want resistive as it can be easy to navigate my needs and the Nokia N900 is what I need.

I hope when I go to Canada next year, the Nokia N900 will be available and I will have it or I will wait for it's decendant (Nokia N910 or any of the usual Nokia phones)

Though, no actual buttons on the display means I will need to get used at the FULL TOUCH UI since I like to press the red key if my programs freeze or not responding.

Where to begin...this phone is awesome! I had a few issues right out of the box ( Just got it yesterday ), but both resolved over night after I let it fully charge and the following morning after redoing the tasks they were fine.

I got a unit from the second batch and so far the second batch seems like Nokia fixed the kinks from the first one. If you want a phone that does everything from SSH, DNS, Apache, to Xvid, Divx videos, then this phone is truly the King of phones. Im typing this review as we speak from my N900 via the Mozilla browswer and I can tell you iPhone owners be scared...be very scared of this thing!

The browser itself is getting updated at the end of Dec with the newest FULL ( Yes I said full ) Adobe Flash so it should be able to play sites like Hulu more smoothly ( although I didnt have a problem with watching standard videos via the browser on Hulu ) since the Flash that comes with the browser straight out of the box is the old 9.6 version. Just having full Adobe Flash not that Flashpoint crap solidified my decision on pre-order and getting this device.

Oh and today I setup a remote DNS with Apache on the phone and have already had two friends test it out and OMG, is it great--what other phone can do that?? NONE!

                                    To address the critics:

Youll hear people say, oh well it doesnt have allot of apps so thats why it sucks, well neither did Apple or Android when they first came out. It takes time when a new OS is released but their are already a bunch of apps that are available. Youll also hear people say well Android multi tasks and its also a Linux platform...the only thing Linux about Android is the Kernel and Android is not an open platform, whereas Maemo is almost full Linux but in the mobile version and you have full access to all coding within Maemo and customization as much as you want unlike Google or Apple who go after people who customize the OS).

MMS as well as full portrait mode control ( portrait is already available but you have to do a little trick with opening and closing programs while you have the phone in portrait ) is coming in the Dec update. This is one of the main things critics use to dissuade potential N900 buyers.

Yes it has a resistive touchscreen but you dont notice it, the responsiveness of the screen is comparable to that of the iPhone of any Android touch screen capacitive device ( Yes I had an iPhone so I know the screen ). Resistive is also great for selecting small objects ( Ever try selecting something small on the iPhone its a pain ) with the stylus or using the handwriting program so you can actually write notes on the screen ( cant do that with iPhone or Android ) with your own handwriting.

Physical keyboard is small but you dont feel squished when needing to use it to type ( virtual keyboard can also be used via the screen ).

Turn by turn, voice navigation is coming via Sygic in about a week so no more Oh the phone doesnt have voice navigation crap.

                                    Everything Else:

The processor itself is capable of 1GHZ ( so technically just as fast as the snapdragon ) but is capped at 680MHZ to preserve battery and reduce heat, but the processor itself with 1GB of ram means this baby is fast and damn do I mean fast!

I bought a Class 6 16GB micro sdhc a while back so I bumped the storage in this thing to 48 GB ( ofc not 48GB total because of OS storage just like any other smartphone ) more than any iPhone or Android user... :P

This is THE phone for geeks and nerds and the only phone thats Linux, open, and in all actuality a computer first, phone second but its also a phone that will appeal to the normal user because of its accessibility and user friendly interface.

What other phone can run full HTML Google Voice and Wave via the browser and not having any slow issues...nothing, except the N900! Oh and iPhone people, you can actually switch out the battery on this thing, which means extra power.

People pay more for the iPhone and they get way less, and people will actually defend Apples decision for basically making a dumbed down phone, whereas Nokia you get everything that is expected in a phone and the newest and best technology to back it up. Having everything in a phone is what people want--a great 5 mp camera, dual led flash, camcorder, front camera for video calling, massive storage, full Adobe Flash, full Mozilla browser, massive storage for music and video...

This phone after the Dec update when we get portrait and MMS will be THE iPhone killer and seriously ahead of Android on all fronts.

^^ Using that I have so far been using the phone ( After all day recharging yesterday ) with internet radio and browsing usage as well as GPS and email for close to eight hours already and my battery still shows full. The power conservation on this thing is astounding and is a 100 times better then iPhone or Android.
This is the phone of phones, and believe me when youre around people with this phone theyll instantly recognize it and youll be the envy. Everywhere I go I always get at least one or two people in astonishment that I have an N900 and how cool it is.

Get the phone you wont be disappointed
