I tweaked my N900 to my heart's content (overclocking, extras-devels apps, ssh, etc you name it). But at the end of the day I want a reliable, working phone. I repeat fMMS is buggy and doesn't support sound or video attachment. If you're satisfied with just sending images, good for you. I expect more out of the money I spent. As for the rest of my complaints, just go to talk.maemo.org and see how many people experience the same problems. Abandoning Maemo is the right move, N900 is the epitome of software incompetence.

You are a bit late, but still you have to admit that N900 is anamazing unit compared to the super simple 5800. The 5800 was a budget phone and it showed, bad low res LCD (terrible color reproduction), slow, no GPU (5800 was totally unsuitable for games), GUI was unsuitable for touch, and so on and on.

N900 has excellent speakers, its loud and clear, yours is broken, or its fake, i dont know? My N900 had some accidents but survived untill my wife got overdrunk and lost it in the toilet ahah. Ok it survived the visit to the toilet also but a few weeks later it stopped charging.

And fMMS is good, easy to use once you set it up, and it takes like 3 minutes to configure? A one time set-up, is that too hard for you?

i recommend you go back to 3310.

I owned a N900 for about 2 months, before that I had a Nokia 5800. The 5800 was a great phone, I sold it to buy a N900, and regret the decision...

My experience with N900 was like a love-hate thing. The first 1-2 weeks was torturing. After that, things seems to be working fine and I thought it was the best phone ever. Alas, finally it dawned upon me that N900 is actually the WORST PHONE EVER, and here are the reasons to avoid this phone:

                  - requires A LOT of tweaking and third party mods, which means A LOT of time wasted, and A LOT of headaches
                  - NO MMS. (i know about fMMS, but it is buggy and doesnt support sound and videos..)
                  - fails as a phone. drops calls for no reason, lags when receiving calls, DOESN'T SUPPORT VIDEO CALLING OVER 3G NETWORK (not skype over 3G)
                  - FRIKKEN HEAVY AND THICK
                  - EARPIECE SPEAKER IS BARELY AUDIBLE DUE TO DESIGN FLAW, the speaker is actually not located under the speaker hole, but like 2cm to the left of it. WOW SO STUPID. plus, pressing the phone to your ear can cause the speaker to malfunction, also due to a design flaw with the speaker's connectors. the N900 design team should burn in a fire.
                  - it looks like a brick, but is actually very fragile. a single drop from waist level can cause the internal memory module to dislodge, turning the phone into a real brick (HAHA... ). the frame around the screen will bend even from a

A request to my fellow N900 users.

My N900's USB port broke due to some rough handling by me of course *sad. But luckily everything else works fine and since I had an extra battery and charger with me, it cam in handy. So my only issue is that I will not be able to flash my N900 again. As a work around it is possible to backup and restore the entire rootfs and optfs using backup menu which I have installed.

What i require now is a vanilla untouched backup archieve of both rootfs and optfs. So if anyone has flashed their phone recently or is planning to do so, it would be very helpful if you could do a full backup of the newly flashed device and upload it on some file sharing site. that way i will always have a vanilla backup to work with in case i need to start all over. it will benefit others as well as restoring using backup menu seems to be much easier than flashing the entire phone.

FIASCO aka *COMBINED* or eMMC aka *VANILLA*? I had a problem with the 27Gb internal memory that didn't let me to use it (It came after trying to copy about 8-9Gb of data via WiFi while on overclocking mode and receiving a call). But after *VANILLA* flashing all went right and with the help of the backup, I was able to have a working telephone in no time!
