Just focusing on this point, you will know how cheap is the N900:
1)_ It is using Maemo OS Linux base (powerful), and it costs 650-700 $, which is nothing.
2)_ fast, can toggle very easily when browsing...
so , so far no phone with such a characteristics can be compared...
so for those who are against N900, please, comment politely, or check ur favorite phone thread & follow-up

Of all the smartphones available, the N900 is the cheapest. Please get your facts right. You are assuming that the best is the most expensive. Wrong. Apples 3gs is by far the most expensive smartphone on the market.

I got that phone less than it states on there website because thats the last one. The owner told me he sold 150 units to flagship in chicago. Welectronics is in chicago. So i got the phone for 800!!!

I know because I have the phone already and I will say it is the best mobile device out there. I have gone from mobile to mobile (iphone, htc android and nokia) and this is way ahead of competition. It may be bulky but it is a powerful gadget overall.

i use the excel s... moreOpenOffice and KOffice are availible for free. But MS Office isn't. The good thing about the N900 is the number of alternatives - both for browsing and document editing.
OOo and KO are NOT exactly the same thing, but many people still prefer to use them. I guess it's up to each own to decide.
My advice is to check it out, and if you like it, then you can keep it.
OpenOffice is availible for PC as well - why not download and try it if you like it? It's completely free, and the PC version is identical to the N900 one.

Do you even know why? That's because Google had an exclusive deal with Motorola. Due SE's inability of making their own OS they have ended up with the scraps of the market.
Now, please, stop complaining. The N900 is all about the innovative software. The hardware is good - I agree - but it's only there to provide and enable all the features it has. For example, there is no projector, since Maemo doesn't support it anyway. But it does have a stronghold of a CPU to enable extreme multi-tasking.
On the other side, the CPU isn't clocked at 1GHz - but why should it be? Is there any other phone with better multi-tasking possibilities? This would only lead to a loss of battery. Remember, performance is a combination of hardware AND software - and very few phones deliver on BOTH sides.
Phones can have crappy hardware (see the N97), crappy software (see the X10) or both (see the LG Crystal) - but keep in mind that there actually are SOME crown jewels (a.k.a. exceptions of this rule) as well. N900, N95 and possibly Omnia HD are some of the few examples - while the X10 isn't.
