Nokia N900

I just went to the NYC flagship and played with the n900 for 5 mins (had to get back to work).
Can report the following facts based on whatever firmware they had:
- with only the following open: photobrowser (no pic loaded), calculator, xterminal, web browser with cnn.com open there is 5MB free physical free out of the 256MB
- with no apps open, there is 30MB physical free out of the 256MB
- device feels solid, nice heft. very good build quality. Barely pocket-able but can be done
- screen response good, no complaints
- keyboard ok, maybe not as nice as the E71 but could get used to it
- screen quality good, crisp and vibrant
- UI design a little quirky as there's alot going on but shouldn't be a problem after you get used to it
- camera response ok, comparable to N95 reponse when taking a pic
- feels like a real gadget, more stuff to play/interact with than iphone.
- GUI response is very good, no lag when the apps are open. OVI maps took over 20 seconds to open though. Felt a slight lag when opening apps for the first time (same as you'd expect from your desktop)
initial response is good would pre-order if I can get a clear idea of battery life, if it can't last a day with average usage then its a no-go for me.
To put in perspective (to assure you I'm no fan-boy), my initial response of the n97 at the NYC flagship was horrible. screen quality horrible, keypad horrible, touch screen response horrible and UI design disgusting. Form factor excellent.
Nokia definitively have an iphone contender here if the battery holds up.

also by having a physical one, the screen's actual display doesn't reduce its size by having to put in the keyboard.... and it doesn't look bad... it even makes the phone look more expensive

using a physical qwerty sucks..its like holding a gameboy in your hands and you look like a fool..every time you need to send a email and text to someone you will need to slide out the qwerty pad every now and then..having a sliding qwerty means it has a flex connected, and after sometime the flex will surely worn out and you will have all kinds of problems..

Guys forget about MP on a phone 5 is enough for a power house like this if you want more power in the camera division then just dish out $100 for a 12 MP camera...
Stand alone digital cameras will always reign above phones.
What phones try to do is give the user enough power to take pictures yet be able to do OTHER THINGS like process documents, surf the web, listen to music, CALL PEOPLE?!, etc
F*ck the MP this phone is big enough, more MP will prolly require a bigger better lense ultimatly making the phone bigger.
And for the people complaining about the resistive touch screen should know that although capacitive touch screens support multi touch and what not they are MORE expensive.

some time back evryone here in nokia forums mak... morebecause iphone's camera sucks even for having such a small mp! LOL!... if the pictures were good we had nothing to say.
besides, we can demand nokia for better camera(better not larger mp), and basically.... better anything cause they have the tech and de resources to do it... iphone users only get a new iphone every couple of years with some minor upgrades... but sincerely, i really like the os... but prefer resistive touch... way more functional and not just eye candy
anybody with me?
