Hi vince
I tell how i get lock in under 1 minute
First i got firmware 11
go to tools, settings, general, positioning then positioning methods. I have only got intergrated ticked. some people say have network on but when i do it seems the phone relys more on network and loses the lock.
last when your out waiting for a bus or smoke break just get your n95 to do a search then open maps. I dont think it's science but my phone now locks on in about 50 seconds evrytime and route66 works flawless with internal gps

the reasonthe n95 batter dies out fst is cuz the orginal ones had the v10 software on them. which wasnt that great, but after installing v11 ssoftware i found my n95 batter did last up to 3days. 2 days if i use the internet and gps alot.
upgrade ur n95s software via Nokia website softwre updater then let the batter die completely then give it a full charge =. you will see the difference it makes. if u have a new n95 and stil lhavea crappy battery. re in stall the software and do as above wirth the chraging

if you were one of the first of the lucky ones who got this device, then read this as you may not be "as lucky" as you think.
Nokia have recalled some of these devices as they have found several faults with the device, and after 2,136 complaints to the nokia.co.uk website about its latest techno-gadget on the market, it seems apparent that nokia have rushed the device to get ahead in the market.
The device has several known faults -
1) Battery is staggeringly poor (ie/ lasts about 2-3hrs tops before you need to charge up again)
2) Sat Nav is under-par - Its not all its cracked up to be - If your wanting sat nav on the go, try the xda orbit from o2
3) The phone's program software is very temprimental - ie/ keeps locking up so you have to turn on/off/restart the device - this can be very annoying
4) Text messaging - Known issues with the sending and recieving of test messages
5) Memory Card - The Nokia N95 seems to want to format your memory card every time you try to save anything onto it, hence losing all your data
This seems very extensive for a 'faultless' device and i urge all customers to think twice about this device, especially the £500.00 price-tag
Even if you get this device for free it seems that people are wishing that'd taken a better alternative.

This phone is 3G - if you turn off the 3g (newtork settings on menu) then the phone will stop searching for the extra network and the battery will last alot longer. This will only help if you are using it as a normal phone i.e calling, txts, bluetooth and camera.
if you want to access the internet or do video calling then you need the 3g on.

how does the gps work? ive been reading that there's like a 2-minute wait time for the satellites to lock-on to my N95, but Ive been standing outside like forever and there's still no gps signal??? Im already outside under direct line of sight to the sky but still no gps signal! does it take forever to lock on the gps???

Come on all you techies and whizzkids somtimes a bigger battery further up the milliamp scale can often be trimmed to fit nokia fones as has been done in the past is anyone got any info,,plus,,this is its only fault because if your fully charged and you leave the charger in on charge after you use the n95 for 1 min or so the battery indicater starts moving as its starts to charge again,,so this thing is sucking up battery fast..
Altho ive got low screen britness and backlight out at 15 seconds and no other connection but the battery goes down,,when ive been to voda they say its because its got a lot of things on it but thats not the point,,if im not using them all at once or just using it as a general fone its got nowt to do with how many things it can do that only applys if your multitasking and using wi-fi with bluetooth on with fullscreen brightnes then yes the battery will die quick, but, just general use kills it so the excuse that its got loads of features on the fone dont apply..
Its as if its got a short somewhere to drain the battery that fast,,why should it start to charge after just 2 mins use and how can s/e get massive hrs out of exactly the same battery??

idiotic gadget bought by people with more money than sense or claiming far too much social security!Camera is good when in perfect conditions and rubbish when not,gps with a crummy chipset and 2d display, web browser that freezes up when loading a large webpage.Even if you downloaded all the software possible you would be have a phone filled with unnecessary junk.

Then give me your life savings!! hahaha! I'll buy my iPhone, then i'll have my n95 and iPhone. N95 has the crapiest battery. Many features in such a small battery life. I think you used wifi for 7 hours because your chargin. Lolz. Wish Nokia make bigger capacity battery for my N95. iPhone is designed for multimedia and stylish users, not businessmen.
