COOL, 11 Apr 2009Hello i am confused in chsoin mobile.tell me which is ... moreBeen using both of them. My opinion is that N96 has maybe a better, modern housing, but underneath it's recession time. No graphics chip, less ram, slower cpu....My unit hung while looking at pictures and the menu was not flowing at all. So my advice is - get N958gb or wait for N97. Buying N96 could be a mistake and the prices of that unit have been dropping rapidly lately. But do try it and ask on the N96 forums - they'we been using the unit longer than i have:) Regards!

N82 is an N95 8GB in a candybar form with the same screen resolution only smaller, but with much much better camera performance plus a Xenon flash. From this definition, N82 is only inferior in index number not in functions and performance.
N82 vs. All other smartphones
N82 is #1, while N95 8GB comes only at 4th.

N82 vs. N79
It seems more people still think that N82 is a lot better despite being almost 2 years old already.

aaron, 11 Apr 2009Who would want an N79 that not only has one of the worst 5M... moreAnd again you're contradicting yourself mate. We agree with you that N82 has a better snapper, but that's it. It doesn't make it a better phone, just a better cameraphone. As of all the rest, N958gb is waaay better. And the selling numbers are telling the exact same thing. N958gb is a legendary phone, N82 is a mediocre phone with a good camera. That's it. You don't have to feel inferior here because you own N82, It's a nice phone but sadly it wasn't built as a flagship and it will never be that.
Am i getting through to you at all? Greets to Teps:)

Who would want an N79 that not only has one of the worst 5MP image quality also has a very horrific video quality? Set aside the screen, N79 is mainly an N85 in candybar form. The chips and the software are all the same. The N82 is inferior in index compared to N95 8GB but turned out to be the OVERALL better between the two. It's the performance that matters more than the indexing. N95 8GB is an all-in-one device that doesn't focus on anything while N82 is an all-in-one device that specializes on imaging.
Nokia is clearing out stocks of N82 not because it is not successful, in fact it is a lot more successful than N95 8GB, admit it! They are clearing out stocks of N82 because as I've said, there is this resolution that aims to discontinue the use of Xenon flash both in mobile phones and standalone digital cameras. After N82, there will be no more high profile camera phone from Nokia that will ever come with a Xenon flash. N82 will soon fade away once the last unit is bought but it will leave the legacy that the almighty N91 has left, being the best in a particular multimedia department, in the case of N82 is the imaging as is in the case of N91 which is the sound quality. You can observe now as it is happening. Every new high profile camera phone that spawn each time is being compared with N82. The same thing as every new music centric device that comes along is being compared with N91. N91 and N82 are both benchmarks.

tt, 11 Apr 2009well in Europe N82 is selling new for almost 150€ less than... moreExactly, here in South Africa and as far as i know in Dubai as well the N95-8gb is out selling the N82. Actualy BOTH major networks here have dropped the N82 BUT are still selling and advertising the N95-8gb and N81. Most now say they no longer stock it. Anyway i dont understand why we are discussing the inferior N82 here, its time has come and gone, its a nice phone, but now that the N79 is here why would you want a N82? Unless you want a xenon flash.

They both run #30/#31 versions of firmware. So maybe in Phillipines N82 is a hit but it's not like that anywhere in the world:) Cheers

tt, 10 Apr 2009alright - at last we have some decent conversation. Well, i... moreActually here in the Philippines, N82 is very popular. Nokia have even replenished their stocks of N82 here. All brand new N82s being sold here come with the latest v31 fw. You won't find a brand new N82 that comes with the older fw. But most brand new N95 8GBs being sold here come with v12 fw. It's an indication that old stocks of N95 8GB aren't yet sold out.

aaron, 10 Apr 2009If you guys don't know yet, Nokia is pushing the dual LED f... morealright - at last we have some decent conversation. Well, i think N958gb has already proven that even after 2 years since it came out it's still a heavy contender and has surpased the wildest imagination of the engineers themselves.
I doubt that anyone will want to buy or even remember N82 in two years time. So it's not a matter of specs, people want to have this phone as soon as they try it. And even after such a long time no decent competition is out and even discussing the fact that N958gb is one of the best phones out there, is unimaginable in the phone industry. But we're doing just that.
I agree - buying a new unit today would be a difficult task since i would probably stick with my N958gb and wait for N97. There will be the real improvement even though it may lack the reliability of N958gb, but we don't know how that will work out.
No other phones come to my mind as replacement for N958gb, neither N82, N85, N96 and N868mp, because they are just N958gb in a different housing with a few toys added - nothing revolutionary there:)

If you guys don't know yet, Nokia is pushing the dual LED flash on their new mobile phones even on their new flagship imaging phones as there is this resolution of phasing out or discontinuing the use of Xenon flash not just on mobile phones but also on standalone cameras. N82 and 6220 classic are the only and last Nokia phones with Xenon flash. I've read it in one article from Womworld Nokia. Just hope that the new and upcoming dual LED flash will be as bright as N82's Xenon flash.
And let me comment on some points about the cameras of N82 and N95 8GB. Both phones have the same camera hardware but with different image processing algorithm. No need to elaborate on this. Just try this camera test. Capture a fast-rotating electric fan with the camera of both N82 and N95 8GB and you'll see the huge difference. Every fast moving object appears to be static when captured by N82's camera. N82 doesn't just take better pictures at low light conditions. It takes better pictures with the Xenon turned on or off. The only thing that N95 8GB can boast in reference to N82 is its larger screen dimension. But this has also some implications. Look at the icons of N95 8GB. You can see the individual pixels at the edge whereas those are hardly visible on N82's screen. The louder speakers may persuade one to choose the N95 8GB but N82 still has better sound quality via the headset. The extra keys on the other part of the slide is indeed an advantage but N95 8GB being a slider faces a problem that is common to all slider phones. Will it last the daily wear and tear issue? The N95 8GB has improved slider compared to the first N95 but still it's not spring-assisted so no matter how good it may seem at first, it will still wobble anytime soon. N82 has no build issues whatsoever. In the end, it's a question of which will be the last phone standing?

n's, 09 Apr 2009n82 keypad so small, n always make a mistake when typing.yes that's true i'm afraid. The keyboard is pretty akward and also i don't like the button placement but it's a matter of habit i would say. N82 is a nice device but i was unhappy with it's performance and also weak battery. That's why i went on buying N958gb. It makes it up with a snappy interface and large screen which makes picture viewing a real pleasure. And as i've said before - 8gb internal memory is more than enough for me....

n's, 09 Apr 2009if we compare a camera between n95 8gb n n82, u think who t... moreClearly the winner in camera performance is N82. It has xenon flash, which makes uncomparable pictures in the dark. It's probably the best cameraphone on the market today. But then again there are also downsides - xenon drains battery very fast and also you have a small screen compared to N958gb. So if you're into night photography go for N82, if you're into good overall performance, large screen, good battery and don't need more than 8gb of memory go for N958gb - or even better wait for N97:) Regards!
