Nokias got to be really angry with themselves wasteing so much time an money producing the N96 but now will it be worth its true value as Nokias got to really drop the price of the N96 to make it compete with the i8510 or the C905,loads were dying to get the N96 but people nowdays can"t through money away that easy so will be waiting to see Nokias reaction to others releasing a 8 mega-pixel camera before them an trailing behind them this time,i would to find out why as it taken Nokia 8 months to get the N96 ready for release an there excuses why it took them that long

I've been waiting for this phone for a long time now!!!! Since the time of its announcement last February but until now that apple have released i phone 3g a month ago, nokia n96 is still due for release i have decided not to buy it anymore. i think samsung i850 is better than n96. Nokia should not let people wait for along time coz its a bad marketing strategy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

y didnt thy add an optical zoom .....4x
                                    n y remove the IR

I honestly do not know why Nokia decided to exclude optical zoom and infrared red (ir). My best guess regarding optical zoom would be overall pricing for the consumer and possible profit loss for Nokia.

Marketing is very complex. It's not as simple as add feature, introduce device into consumer market, like most believe. When considering possible features of a device, two main factors are considered, production cost and returned revenue. Optical zoom requires additional moving mechanical parts, which requires extended labor, which results in an increase in production cost. Given the stated facts, obviously the cost for consumers will be high. Now if the device fails to overturn production costs for whatever reason (cost, lack of popularity, defects, etc), Nokia quarterly profits will drop. No company wants that. Thus why certain features are omitted. I'm sure many other unmentioned factors, strategies, and plans goes into finally deciding what goes into the final product.

As for infrared red, bluetooth is replacing the usage of ir. Bluetooth excels infrared red in almost, if not in all fields. Now with more upcoming advancements in bluetooth, ir seems pointless.

Andy Burgin, 11 Aug 2008Just seen on www.jassp.net that theres a site offering the ... moreI agree within a few months or so, Nokia will release a more unique device. I disagree with it being an improved version of the Nokia N96 though. Personally, I feel the next "big thing" will be presented within the upcoming 5th Edition Touch devices, and I'm not referring to Nokia's Tube either. Nokia representatives stated, the Tube will be introduced as a mid range device, and the high ends to follow thereafter.

As for the upcoming Samsung i8510 INNOV8, that device offers nothing more than a increased 3 megapixel capacity over the Nokia N96 and/or the Nokia N95. Personally, it's funny how mobile companies are still trying to outclass the almost 2 year old Nokia N95.
