The Guy, 22 Oct 2009I'm starting to be disappointed with the Nokia N97 with all... morei do agree that its as if nokia announced this phone too early than released an unfinished product. nokia has many fans and a very solid reputation in the cell phone industry, but they must know that they are losing ground a bit and there are more companies now than ever that offer cell phones. i just hope that this new firmware will be worth the wait. as for your camera, have you tried getting it repaired? if under warramty it should be free. you could also try taking it to nokia care centre. nokia have acknowledged this design flaw and you should be able to get it fixed for free.

just show that nokia are better company, they are suing apple for using their technology, heres what happened
Finland's Nokia said that it had agreements with about 40 firms - including most mobile phone handset makers - allowing them to use the firm's technology, but that Apple had not signed an agreement.

"The basic principle in the mobile industry is that those companies who contribute in technology development to establish standards create intellectual property, which others then need to compensate for," said Ilkka Rahnasto, Vice President, Legal & Intellectual Property at Nokia.

I'm starting to be disappointed with the Nokia N97 with all the issues it has. If Nokia doesn't release the V2 firmware by the end of October then I'll sell mine and go for another device with similar/better specs. Honestly now, if Nokia thought this phone would make them competitive in the Touchscreen segments of phones, well they got it totally wrong. It seems like Nokia were in a rush when they made this phone as it wasn't in perfect (or even exceptional) condition when it walked out of the Nokia Factory.
            1. The Software was not good enough and it still isn't.
            2. UI not stable even after Nokia had months to improve their S60 5th edition but its not quite snappy as expected.
            3. The lens cover was built too close to the lens thus it scratches the lens everytime you open the lens to use the main camera.

emmanuel, 22 Oct 2009a friend of mine who lives in france has given me an NOKIA ... moreThat simply means your N97 is locked to the network your friend had it on. You need to get it unlocked. Take it to any cell phone repair shop OR you can ask your providers to assist. If your provider is willing to get it unlocked for you they may or may not charge you. They may ease you up by not charging you seeing that you plan to go with their network.

Let me know the outcome of things. Good luck.

I just made a switch to the n97 from my iphone 3g, and i'm pleasantly surprised so far. I thought i wouldn't like the resistive screen that much, but it's very responsive and i like being able to use my fingernail. The only thing i miss is multi-touch. I've had no problems with the phone so far and i've had it for 2 weeks..no lagging, no freezing, no bugs. The web browsing experience is a bit better on my old iphone, but the n97 has flash and it loads youtube vids very fast. I like being able to change my screen, and after using the keyboard i think it'll be hard to go back to a phone without one - typing is so much faster. I'm very happy with this phone.

if the firmware 2 live up to expectation, my n97 is not far away! N900 is nicer but not my type of form:(

jibsonmine, 22 Oct 2009A word of warning... Don't get your hopes up too hi... moreThanks for that. Personally, I don't mind waiting a little longer for the firmware if it means nokia are doing all they can to ensure it'll be a great product. I just hope that doesn't mean that it will be the last firmware update for the n97. I'm running v12 and I'm having no problems with it.

                                A word of warning...

Don't get your hopes up too high.

In the "Firmware Updates in the UK - Campaign for Equality" thread we have had a visit from someone with a "nokia" icon next to his name (yes, there was a chorus from the celestual choir!).

Anyway, he said, and I quote

"I am not sure about the origin of the above but what I can say is that the schedule is incorrect.

We are for sure putting the N97 PR2.0 out for public download as soon as possible. PR2.0 will be a major overhaul of the PR1.x baseline. In fact, there is so much new stuff included that we will first introduce PR2.0 via NSU. The schedule for PR2.0 is still not verified, but I'd expect to find the open market versions being distributed by the end of this month (this is not a promise). You will be notified of the new SW availability via myNokia (are you a member yet?) and the in-built SW update application on your N97, which will notifiy you about new firmware releases in NSU and/or FOTA as well as core application updates such as Maps etc.

FOTA updates to PR2.0 will follow in due course.

I know that there is a lot of anticipation for this release and therefore we are putting an extra effort to ensure that your update experience will make it worth the waiting.

In addition to the above, next week we are introducing the latest version of the NSU client so be aware that you will have to update your currently installed version. The main changes in the new client include support for the N900 product as well as some minor improvements."

I am very much disappointed with my newly purchased N97 handset that I have purchased just 3 days ago. I purchased a new N97 handset from Nokia authorized Shop,Indira Nagar, Lucknow on 16.10.09. Just after one hour from the time of purchase I found that my handset was getting OFF on its own and was rebooting. When I faced this problem after every 15 min, I contacted the Nokia dealer and got my handset changed. I faced the same problem with that N97 handset also. I took that handset to Nokia Service Centre and got its software reinstalled, but the problem continued. So, the dealer gave me another new N97 handset, but I am facing the same problem with my this new handset as well. I changed my SIM card, but the handset is giving problem with my other SIM card as well...so, this problem is definitely not related to SIM card. I feel strongly that Nokia is no more quality conscious and I as a customer is not at all happy with your product (N97 handset).

i'm OK with my new N97 so far. The reason people are complaining is probably because they have chosen the wrong type of phone for their type of application...
