Anonymous, 10 Jan 2011because in this phone the max sd is 16gbI am using a sandisk class 2 32gb micros-sd memory card instead of 32gb mass memory.Still tho i would reccomend the smallest card you csn get away with.

I also use a class 6 samsung memory card whe i go out videoing or taking shots.

WHAT should be happening really is if a person bought the n97 and thought the 32gb is more than enuf they should be able to..Whats really happening is the mass memory is so slow and RAM is in short supply and together its creating a bit amount of slowness..

The trouble is continually formatting memory cards will lead to card failure..The faster the card the faster it wears out with formatting many times. Therefore the n97 mass memory had to last the 24 month contracts so they opted for ruggedness over speed..

I still think nokia should give a refund of 20% of what you paid for n97 against a new nokia smartfone.

Anonymous, 09 Jan 2011Why my e:mass mem0ry is "mem0ry in use" in fact i... more

There are 3 things people get mixed up with & i wont insult you by saying the below "but" my god its one of the biggest problems in tech.

        The problem is memory/storage/RAM/ROM.

The n97 has 128MB of RAM which on latest firmware is about 50-60Mb available to user and below with installed apps. This is the big area where all the apps/mp3 all go into before going thru proccessor.YOU CAN NEVER HAVE ENUF RAM THE MORE THE BETTER ..IT IS PERHAPS EVEN MORE IMPORTANT THAN PROCCESSOR SPEED!!

A computer of fone with 3GHZ proccessor & 128MB ram will be slower under pressure than a 520MHZ proccessor & 4GB of RAM.That is an example not pure truth it is to show RAM is important.

The ROM is comprised of z-disk and c-disk and i think its only 256MB on n97 but feel free to tell me otherwise. When the z-disk has it O/S installed the left over bit is your c-disk which has been big problem on n97 but should be between few KB to 45-60MB depending on what you have installed.

Next is 32GB mass memory for storage only.It is really slow memory meaning its write speed is awful.Memory speed is measured is classes.Class 2 is the lowest ive seen on a memory card and the 2 indicates the speed in Mb/s at what the memory card can write information(data)to its memory. So a class 2 card has to write at 2Mb/s to qualify for them to write on the 2 on the card "this is a class 2 memory card"or 2 in brackets.
Back to the n97 mass memory,WELL, who knows but its awfull write speed not even class 2 ..In other words its best just for playing things off not actually writing to it.Thats why i use fast memory card to record video on n97 cause if i did it to mass memory it would cause stutter.I have got the n97 working but only just ,if you can find one cheap then its a great value device to store info on but i would not reccomend anyone buy one,,i couldnt reccomend it its been awful and even new N8 has out of memory errors still ive had one & took it back !!

Anonymous, 09 Jan 2011Why my e:mass mem0ry is "mem0ry in use" in fact i... moreDepending on how you have set up your smartfone, you need to go to file manager. It should be under office app but i have changed mine to somewhere else so a bit unsure..

When you get their you should see 2 readings ,one for the fone storage which is low probably say about 18MB free if your lucky, this is your c-disk space.

Next down is your 32GB mass memory which could say anything but usually about 27.8GB free space .

Now if you have a memory card inserted you will have a third slot or reading showing however big your card is ie 16gb card usually gives about 14.7GB to the user.

If you have installed memory card you should have 3 readings,2 readings with no memory card inserted.

Try this first so i can see whats going on..

So try to find file manager, mine is blue cabinet type icon.

raim, 30 Nov 2010I suspect people giving positive reviews about the Nokia N9... moreI have had the N97 for nearly a year now and although it has some flaws (like low internal memory) I still like it a lot. I bought it about a year after it was first released so a lot of bugs had already been resolved. One thing I missed was the internet radio, but that is available now. The fm transmitter is a great feature but useless in the Netherlands, because there are no free frequencies. A frequency might work in one area but not in another. So you would have to keep on searching for a free slot while driving. The free navigation is just great! With regard to the internal memory: I make sure not to install apps to my C:drive (so avoid most nokia made apps). I have an extra battery but hardly have to use it, because I usually get through the day just fine. I just love the design, especially the screen moving up, and the fact that it has a keyboard. Another thing I like, (unlike most people) is the fact that it has a reactive touch screen. I can use a stylus when it's cold and I am wearing gloves. Or use my nails for precise clicking. I actually dread moving to a capacitive screen (the E7 really appeals to me). I have never had any problems with my N97 phone. And no, I am not working for Nokia. So although you cannot imagine that anyone could like the N97, I actually do.

I purchased Nokia N97 Mini 4months back. I feel that this is not a mobile, it is a head ache and waste of money. It is having all kind of failure like restarts often, over heating, very very poor battery backup, antenna problem, outer case fitting, poor software support etc.
Nokia care is one of the waste solution in NOKIA, no use at all.
If somebody planned to purchase please go for some other make (other than Nokia) even china mobile.

The first few weeks I had my N97 I thought it was a great phone but then the troubles began. It has been away for repair a few times and 4 weeks ago had the hardware replaced. Now I cannot even make calls. This is the worst phone I have ever owned and I have had lots of Nokia phones. I had to keep recharging the battery and could not use the apps because it made the battery go flat too quickly. Keep getting memory full error. Sometimes cannot unlock phone and often have to remove battery and restart to get the phone to work. All Nokia say is to put it in for repair again. They put the Nokia Care shop in a suburban shopping centre that is not easy to get to when you work full time but Nokia do not seem to care. Not sure if I would ever buy another Nokia phone again.

hi, you know what, the aluminium sorrunding the upper part of my n97 has been detached by itself..i hesitate to apply the strong glue to it..it looks funny now, but i still love the phone, although the obvious problem of every user; slow phone..however i will not toss this away. maybe it needs an update about the slow speed. I will buy Xperia arc couple of months after its release but i will still use n97 as my 2ndary phone (greatest features: 32GB and free Maps and the rare, innovative FM tranmitter!)

First n97 was poor so sold it,it then got update so bought one second hand but still found it poor ,sold it.Thought i would try n97 mini but had worse battery but loved form factor so rebought n97 after it had another update but after a while gave up and sold it for n97 mini and bought second battery to compensate..Another update to n97 and that big screen and love of nokia made me buy another n97 but inbetween bought n8 from carfone. The n8 had out of memory errors so got money back saying it was faulty..

I love the symbian but nothing will ever beat n95/n95 8gb..

Right onto battery on n97,i use 2g only or use 3g if downloading some podcast or video then straight back to 2g..I have backlight set to 20 seconds and BRIGHTNESS AT 25-50% only..No bluetooth on and cell broadcast and service command off..I now refresh twitter and email manually and with 1 hour of music and 10 mins of calls and about 8texts sent /recieved and 30 mins web and 30 mins gaming as average day i get full day no problem..I never, along with others expect todays smartphone to last more than 8-12 hrs of heavy use .

You say N97mini has a small battery, smaller than the n97? I have just bought an N97 and I am terrified with the poor battery.
It is not has affected by wi-fe, net, music player or motion sensor use as my friends samsung but it has a very short battery life all round. Much less than I would expect and than I had on SonyEricsson phones.
Any sugestions on how to improve that?
