I was recently given an N97 Mini that needs a new screen (but everything else works) for free. I plan to get the new screen, then not sure what I'll do with it.

I also got an iPhone 3G a few months ago (traded my HTC Hero for it) and I love it, but find the UI quite boring, and find myself only using a small portion of the apps. I'm going to use the N97 Mini as a phone for a bit after I've gotten the screen, but I was just gonna ask beforehand; what does everyone else think in comparison? The apps don't bother me so much as I was at the SEE in Earls Court last year and saw a lot of the plans for Symbian in the near future and it looks very promising (a lot more promising than iPhone OS or Android anyway), but from people's current experiences; what does everyone think?

        Hi,
Nokia is jumping straight to Symbian^3. Maemo 6 is coming later this year with at least one new device running it.
Symbian^3 is expected to come out in the third quarter of 2010. For now it's not clear if older devices will be compatible with the new OS, which will feature multi-touch gestures. We will also be seeing Symbian^4 in late 2010 or early 2011.

SO, WAIT & SKIP N97 mini (which has not a capacitive screen & not also has multi-touch)

Hey "mok" i just bought this phone and it came with; the nokia n97 mini (obviously), battery, charger, connectivity cable, user headset (earphones), user guide and ovi pc suite.

I only got this phone today but I love it! It has all the features i wanted in a phone like a good camera, wifi, qwerty keyboard, resistive touchscreen and apps. The touchscreen is surprisingly responsive, best touchscreen experience I have had... my previous phone was a lg arena which had a capacative touchscreen and a very laggy interface. I find the nokia n97 mini interface to be very easy to use and quiet zippy. Wifi works excellently and the camera takes pretty great shots...Carl Zeiss lens was a good choice.
Overall I think this phone is fantastic! Best so far from nokia in my opinion =)

Guys, choosing phone boils down to individual preferences, personally, I LOVE the formfactor of this device, but unfortunately, the S60 is a bug oriented OS that desperately needs an update, seriously, Nokia shouldn't even released a phone with S60 inside it..

Moni/Neo, 01 Feb 2010Hi Shaan, I'm a BIG fun of Nokia, I like Nokia so much. I'... moreIf I may, resistive technology is considered more accurate than capacitive. Capacitive technology works on electric conduction so even a minuscule touch by a conductor (like human body) is registered by capacitive screens. Point to note is that with non-conductors capacitive screens do not respond. Non conductors like a stylus or hands wearing gloves.

On the other hand resistive touchscreens are composed of two flexible sheets. When contact is made to the surface of the touchscreen, the two sheets are pressed together, registering the location of touch.
Bringing the sheets as close as possible makes resistive screens more responsive to gentle touches. Latest resistive touchscreens like the ones on N97 mini are very responsive.
                                  As per GSMArena review :
"The sensitivity of the Nokia N97 mini is on par with the competition, and save for the Samsung Jet and Pixon12, we haven't seen a resistive-touchscreen handset perform much better. Nokia seem to have done some tweaking to the screen so that now its responsiveness with fingers is better than the original N97. There is also haptic feedback with adjustable intensity, which we find really comfortable."

Capacitive screens are usually considered not so accurate because even an accidental graze gets registered and at the wrong place might take you off the page you are on.

Before making a decision regarding touch screens it should be noted that mobile phones are handheld devices that are often used in public places, in a not so steady surrounding. Phones are thus more prone to accidental presses. Resistive screens makes more sense than capacitive ones on mobile phones.
That's my opinion, by the way. You can have yours.

                                    Hi Shaan,
I'm a BIG fun of Nokia, I like Nokia so much. I've used 13 several phones of Nokia (starting with Nokia 3310,7650,6600,6010i,6070,2630,2680cs,6300,3110c,5310,N70,E51 and Now useing Nokia E66). And I had only 1 Sansung's F300 (UltraMusic).I've no any complain against NOKIA.

SO, PLZ DON'T JOKE WITH ME!

There are 2 kinds of touch screen tecnology now available in market & those're CAPACITIVE & RESISTIVE.
Obcourse CAPACITIVE is much BETTER than RESISTIVE tecnology.

I LIKE very much Nokia N97mini, & thats why I'm in here!

I WANT TO SKIP NOKIA N97mini FOR ONLY 1 REASON & THAT IS IT'S RESISTIVE SCREEN!

So even if you have no GPRS/3G network or no GSM network on which we talk on you will still be able to use your phone for GPS navigation.
