Nokia 808 PureView new samples arrive, look stunning

26 April, 2012

Nokia is apparently not all about the Amazing Everyday and still finds time for its 808 PureView cameraphone monster. Today we got some fresh samples from the 41 megapixel to feast our eyes on. It's not the first time they're doing it, but you won't hear us complaining.

Nokia 808 PureView samples

Most of the photos have been downsized to 5 megapixels, which supposedly allows us to see the best of the PureView technology and they are really impressive. The dynamic range and the amount of fine detail resolved is splendid and while we can't say anything about their accuracy, colors certainly look nice. Not to mention the shallow depth of field, which is normally next to impossible to achieve with a cameraphone.

There are also a few full-res samples, where the "per-pixel" sharpness levels isn't quite as impressive, but the overall resolved detail is mind-blowing. We'd say that the full-res samples are about as sharp when viewed at 100% as the current best cameraphones. The thing is there's three to four times more pixels on the 808 PureView.

In other words nothing currently on the market comes even close to what the 41 MP sensor inside the Nokia 808 PureView offers.
