Nokia Supernova 7610, 7510, 7310 and 7210 get officially announced
Today Nokia unveiled its newest style-oriented lineup of phones. The Supernova collection has hardly been the industry's best kept secret (one of the devices is already selling) but its official announcement still gives the fans something to cheer about. There will be as many as four Supernovas, so there is eventually a model which we haven't seen so far. All of them will be utilizing the S40 UI so smartphone aficionados will be disappointed.
We have already posted several news articles on the not-so-official Supernovas, and you can have a look at them here.
Nokia 7610 Supernova
The flagship of the series is Nokia 7610 Supernova. It comes with a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera with dual LED flash and a 16M color QVGA screen. The stylish slider will rely on EDGE and GPRS for its data transfers as there is no 3G support available on-board.
A really cool feature of the Nokia 7610 Supernova allows the keypad illumination color and the theme to be changed automatically depending on the current environment. It will also feature the old-but-obviously-not-forgotten XpressOn covers. Those allow easy changing of the color of the phone by simply changing its cover. The final extras include stereo Bluetooth (A2DP), microUSB slot and 30MB of internal memory (expandable through the microSD card slot) as well as FM radio with RDS.
The quad-band Nokia 7610 Supernova will hit the shelves somewhere in the third quarter of this year at an estimated retail price of 225 euro before taxes or subsides. It will be available in two color versions - Pristine White (with Bright Lilac and Steel Blue XpressOn covers) and Muted gray (with Steel Blue and Red covers).
Nokia 7510 Supernova
Next in line is the only clamshell in the series - the Nokia 7510 Supernova. It is equipped with two displays - a 2.2-inch 16M color internal one of QVGA resolution and an external one with a resolution of 128 x 160 pixels. It also sports a 2 megapixel snapper (no autofocus here), FM radio, microUSB slot and stereo Bluetooth (A2DP). The internal memory will be up to 25MB and will be further expandable up to 8GB via the microSD card slot.
A nice thing about the Nokia 7510 Supernova is the automatic opening mechanism - you can open it with a simple push of a button. It's not a new feature (Nokia 6131 already had that), but definitely deserves credit.
There will be four color versions of the Nokia 7510 Supernova available - Storm Blue, Fatal Red, Emerald Green and Espresso Brown. The clamshell will become available in Q4 and has an estimated retail price of 180 euro before taxes or subsides.
Nokia 7310 Supernova
Nokia 7310 Supernova was available for purchasing online even before it was officially announced. In fact it was the only time that we can think of that Nokia messed things up so severely as to ship a phone before it is officially unveiled.
As far as the specifications are concerned the bar-shaped Nokia 7310 Supernova is a lower mid-end phone all over. It has a 2-inch display of QVGA resolution and a 2 megapixel snapper. XpreesOn covers are also available to diversify the looks of the phone. It also comes with a 2.5 standard audio jack, a microUSB slot and stereo Bluetooth (A2DP). GPRS and EDGE are supposed to take care of the network data transfers.
The tri-band Nokia 7310 Supernova will have 32MB of internal memory which will be extendable thanks to the built-in microSD card slot.
Since the 7310 Supernova is already available we can tell you the exact retail price - some 155 euro will easily get you one. The three different color versions are named: Steel Blue, Candy Pink and Wasabi Green.
Nokia 7210 Supernova
Finally we come to the most affordable member of the Supernova family - Nokia 7210 Supernova. It's a thinner version of the 7310 and stands at only 10mm of thickness. It has only 256K color display, but it's again a two-incher with QVGA resolution. We suggest you'd be on the lookout for this little fella as it seems as a future market hit.
Supporting tri-band GPRS and EDGE connectivity the bar-shaped 7210 has a built-in camera capable of taking photos of 2 megapixel resolution. Some of the other niceties of the 7210 include FM radio with RDS, microUSB and stereo Bluetooth (A2DP) as well as 30 MB of internal memory. There is also a memory card slot for expanding the memory but it only supports memory cards with a capacity of up to 2GB.
Nokia 7210 Supernova will be available in Bubble Gum Pink and Vivid Blue from Q3 2008. Its estimated retail price is 120 euro before taxes or subsides.
