Nokia with four new mobiles

28 Nov, 2006

Today Nokia announced four new models at the Nokia's annual Capital Market Days taking place in Amsterdam. The Nokia 6300, Nokia 6290 and the Nokia 6086 are mid-range positioned handsets while the Nokia 2626 is a budget model targeted at developing markets. Do expect another set of new Nokia phones to be unveiled tomorrow as the event in Amsterdam continues.

The Nokia 6290 is a quadband 3G smartphone in the clamshell form factor. It would have a 2.2" 16M colors main TFT display with a QVGA resolution and a smaller secondary 256K colors TFT display. The device is based on the Symbian 9.1 OS with the latest S60 user interface and as far as connectivity options are concerned it boasts EDGE, GPRS, Bluetooth, Infrared port and USB 2.0. The available memory of 50MB can be expanded with a microSD memory card. The Nokia 6290 would be equipped with 2 megapixel camera and a secondary CIF video camera for video calls. A FM radio is also available, but unfortunately there is no Wi-Fi support. The estimated retail price of the Nokia 6290 is 325 euro before subsidies or taxes.

The Nokia 6086 is again a quadband clamshell. It features a 1.8" 256K colors main TFT display with a resolution of 128x160 pixels plus a smaller monochrome external one, a VGA camera, a microSD memory card slot and FM radio along with EDGE and GPRS. The interesting thing about the Nokia 6086 is that it has Wi-Fi support and is in fact UMA-enabled. UMA technology (Unlicensed Mobile Access) is in a way combination of GSM and WLAN technologies. Nokia 6086 would be the third UMA enabled Nokia phone after Nokia 6136 and Nokia N80. The estimated retail price of the Nokia 6086 is 200 euro before subsidies or taxes.

It has a tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support and a large 16M colors TFT display with a QVGA resolution. It has a 2 megapixel camera, FM radio, microSD memory card slot and Bluetooth. Other than trolling ebay, does someone know of an online retail business that would have the 6300 as soon as it's available?
