When most people believe they think of the free, open source mobile OS Android, they actually think of Android AND the commercial, closed source Google Mobile Services (GMS), which provides things like Google Play.
This phone runs open source Android (AOSP), with a UX from Microsoft and Nokia. Thus it will NOT work with, for example, Google Play, and any Android app that also needs GMS won't work, but it certainly IS an Android phone, only not an Android and GMS phone.

I tried the video calling and it worked through skype -So its s nice bet new interface very light and all apps are working :-)

my opinion is since microsoft will acquire nokia, then what will happen to the current android phones made by nokia? my guess is it will lose support from the company and the customer will be left on their own if they encounter problems because microsoft would not support android.

Please don`t believe all the stupid people spreading wrong rumors that this is not an android phone.
This is just a forked version of android (4.1.2 Jelly Bean) which uses nokia/microsoft apps instead of google apps and this is good because all the heavy battery draining apps like gmail/gmaps etc and other google apps are not installed on this phone which makes the battery life better than any other android phone in the market.
I am planning to buy the XL version of this phone beacuse of the larger screen/extra ram/led flash/5mp cam....
All the required android apps works on this phone.
So all the people who are saying this is not a android phone are just trolls.

Never used this phone, but I think, that the specs are quite awful for the time it's released.
Dual-core 1 GHz Cortex-A5 is still fine, but paired with now dating Adreno 203, it makes me think, what the heck NOKIA was thinking in designing this phone.
PowerVR SGX531u or Mali-400 or similar would be much better choice. I think that this phone is total waste of money, you're far better of saving a little bit more money and going for Motorola Moto G or LG (Google)Nexus 4

really stupid phone yar mix up android & Windows. Not fully android. Dont buy it go for galaxy series for buying them really poor product from nokia. Nothing diff between lumia & X series
