Nothing Phone (1) Android 14 beta is now out

Vlad, 19 December 2023

Last week Nothing rolled out the stable update to Android 14 for its Phone (2), and this week the spotlight moves onto the Phone (1), the company's first ever smartphone, released last year.

There is now an open beta of Android 14 available for all Phone (1) owners who are adventurous enough to run beta software on their devices. As with the update for the Phone (2), the Phone (1)'s is also labeled Nothing OS 2.5. As that name implies, this is the most significant update since the launch of Nothing OS 2.0, which came out alongside the Phone (2) earlier this year.

There are plenty of new features packed inside: a redesigned customization page for both lock screen and home screen, the ability to transform your background photo into a dynamic wallpaper, new solid color wallpapers, a new monochrome color theme, customizable double press power button gesture, more lock screen shortcut options, a quicker way to capture screenshots along with a new screenshot editor, new widgets, a new Glyph animation for when NFC is used, a new back gesture arrow design, a new Quick Settings layout, and, most importantly for some - the ability to set ringtone and notification sound volumes separately!

There are also stability improvements for the camera, as well as "enhanced overall system stability for a more reliable and smooth experience", the company boasts.

Don't forget that this is a beta, and as such, things may go wrong. It's best to backup all your data before you hop onto the beta train, just to be on the safe side.

Does this have the same "keep open" option available with other vendors in order to keep quick view tabs open when clicking "clear all"?
