Prasad, 13 September 2022

Just over two months from launch, the Nothing Phone (1) has accumulated strong sales numbers in India through its launch partner Flipkart. These numbers are particularly good for a new player in a highly competitive market like India.

Speaking exclusively to us, Vice President & General Manager, Nothing India Manu Sharma said that the Nothing Phone (1) currently had over 100k customers in India at the end of August. The brand managed to sell over 100k units over just 20 sale days on Flipkart.

Sharma also said that the Nothing Phone (1) is currently the best selling smartphone on Flipkart in the INR 30,000+ price segment. The phone had strong reception from customers, with over 10 million opting to notify about the phone's launch on Flipkart ahead of the launch.

Nothing also informed us that the company will shortly be releasing its fourth major software update, the Nothing OS 1.1.4. While the company did not elaborate on the exact release date and the details of the update, Sharma said the update will provide fixes for the key issues that customers have brought up as well as improvements for things such as the camera and battery.

When asked about the upcoming Android 13 update, Sharma stressed that the company's priority is on providing good software experience over an expedited release cycle. The release of the Android 13 update and the development timeline of the Phone (1) also made it difficult to incorporate the update sooner.

As for the future, Sharma hinted at upcoming ecosystem devices in the pipeline, but refused to elaborate further.

Going into the festive season in India, the Nothing Phone (1) will have limited time price drops and cash back rewards. The 8+128GB model will be priced at INR 31,999 (currently 33,999), the 8+256GB at INR 34,999 (currently 36,999), and the 12+256GB model at INR 37,999 (currently 39,999). Customers of select banks will also get additional INR 3000 cash back.

ddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd

There is a thing, market fragmentation. 10 years ago you had about 5-10% of today's line-up to choose from. Also, there was pretty much no mid tier. You had top or crap to buy, that is it.

Strange, it used to be selling in 'millions' were a product would be considered successful. Now a company sells 100k and its a success??? when did that happen?
