Firmware will be avail by O2 shops, ask for an upgrade and it should be free. Probably be a long time til one is released however.
Good point about the 'waiting' in browsing - kinda annoying!

I've had the O2 X4 for two weeks now, and all-in-all I have to say I'm fairly impressed with it. The camera quality is great in reasonable conditions (outside or where good quality lighting is available).
The ability to download videos, mp3s etc from your PC to the phone using the enclosed USB cable is a huge advantage (although it took me a while to realise that you need to convert .mpg files into .3pg files before they are viewable on the phone).
The inclusion of a 64MB memory card is also a massive bonus enabling you to really take advantage of the ability of the phone to function as a mobile entertainment facility - the easy insertion and removal facility of this through the bottom of the phone is also well-hought out, unlike the Nokia 6230 for example where the memory card is located underneath the battery of the phone and is only accessible by removing the back cover.
However, having said all of this, there are a few issues that should have been resolved before this phone left the factory, and its quite shocking that the marketing bods at O2 allowed the phone onto the market with such blatant faults - many of which have already been pointed out on this forum.
The battery meter is very unreliable and does not necessarily provide an accurate picture of the remaining charge on the phone. For example, the phone was charged overnight and then part way through the next day began to show only one bar of remaining power, then an hour later showing no charge at all. This can be rectified by turning off the phone and powering it back on again, but you can never be sure that the indicator is showing the correct power level, and if the phone needs to be charged or not.
In addition, there is the flash problem already alluded to on this forum. When taking a photograph with the flash turned on, the flash will activate prior to the photo being taken which means that the end result is no photo. Did nobody test this function at any point?
One final niggle is the pull away strip at the bottom of the phone protecting the memory card slot - could they not have left the headphone connection unprotected like the charger socket? I get the feeling that leaving the phone in your pocket while listening to music or taking telephone calls, the plastic strip is going to get broken off during normal usage as it is quite flimsy.
Oh...and I know I said that was my last gripe, but why are there no accessories available one month after the product has been launched?? The O2 shops say that here won't be anything until the end of April.
Anywho - aside from these issues, I am, beleive it or not, quite happy with my phone. It is a neat, compact and reasonably stylish little number and if you're buying from O2 online, you get a good deal too (50 mins anytime/any network, 500 txts and 1MB wap browsing for the princely sum of £19p/m)

i have alsow noticed that the moment that the light is nolonger optumom the camra go's all pixalated, but if i whated a ditigtal camra i would have got myself one, the picture are good at the time i find myself taking them the most, in the day, outside.
one thing, has anyone noticed that when the phones memeory if quit full, with like maby 200 photo's when you try to go throw them, it is ether very very slow, or crashes if you dont hit the hang up button and return to the main menu and go back throw the menu's to the pic's agin, i have found it onlu douse this if i have about 2mb of pic's on it, its not realy faltal but a bit irating.
this might sound like a stupid question, but when a firmwear is relised, is it downloaded onto your phone or somthing, as if they relise somthing to allow me to add java aplecations from other sources it would be higly irating if i could not take advatage of it.
i think i will myself try to contact o2 mysefl about the posiblity off puting java on, i will out there reply here if and when i get one

Finally, as promised, some X4 photos are available.
BEAR IN MIND THEY ARE RESIZED!! Due to filesize limitations, this is the easiest way to show some pics, unless you can suggest a free alternative to store upto 700Kb files!
The quality is good in good light, nearly on par with other 1.3Mp phones, but quite poor in bad light.

Still unknown on the Java games/apps issue, contacted O2 to no avail. Hoping for a firmware upgrade to sort the battery meter/java issue and possibly the calendar duration.

a very good phone in my opinion, i have alswo sufferd from the problem with the battery monitor but it just tend to igonore it,
the battery life is very good in my opinjon, i have played mp3's on it for 5h strat at full volum donw the heaphones, and that only used 2 bars of power, wich is quit impresive.
one thing i would have liked would be a sound recorder, but i supose you cant have everthing.
one thing i was wondering was if you can put java games on via a cable or wap, as i have been unable to find this out.
one small falt i have found, and this is more to do with O2 than the phone is that i have been unable to cheak what it is compatable with on there web site, as for all inenst and puruse the only place it seems to exist is the online shop.
