Hi, has anyone read a comparison between the O2 mini and the Motorola MPx220. The latter seems unavailable in the UK, so O2 suggested their mini. It looks good to me, and the only negative vibe I have picked up is the indoor photo quality.

Tony: Get the O2 instead. It is smaller and more feature rich as opposed the to the P910. I had the P800 and naturally, I wanted to upgrade to the P910. However, after comparing the pros and cons with these two models, I decided on the Mini and did not regret my decision. However, don't just take my word for it. Try and check thru all the internet sites that does a review on both models and see which one meet your needs. However, I would just like to say that if you want to download stuff into your PDA/Phone, then the PocketPC will have more software options than the Symbian based P910.

Krantz: Yes, the Mini can record video, playback a host of other video formats like avi, mpg, wmv, wma, midi, mp3, rm, mp4 and 3gp...so take your pick :-)

However, the camera is kinda bad indoors. But then, most of us are not buying this for the camera features anyway..

            Hi All,
I have gone to Funan and enquire about the SD wifi card 256MB with integrated memory. It costs ranges from $220-$249. There are no stocks but heard that prices are dropping to about $205.So worth waiting. One of the shop owner told me that there's some compatibility issue with SD Wifi and O2, anyone working in O2 wish to comment?

              Hi guys,

I've just made the big jump to a o2 mini PPC and I would like to know if there is a text chat facility (not Instant Messenger) as like in the SE mobile phones.

              Thanks

                  Hi newbie Keen,

Thanks again, but it looks like your suggestions did not work.

I hard reset and auto-configed as you suggested however the device still plays up.

When i shut the device down (with the power button) I am unable to turn it back on unless I do a soft reset. This is a problem becuase it means the phone is off when i shut the device down which is not good.

Back to the shop i go. Hopefully they'll just replace the handset.

                  Cheers anyway,
                  Brendan

                    Guys,
Is powerDVD or Studio a freeware? Or you have to purchase it to do this DVD encoding ?

                      Hi newbie Keen,

Cheers for the feedback. Thanks for the info regarding the long hold on the power button.

I previously had the auto-configure set to default so that may have been the problem with the power. I've just run the auto-configure now so we'll see if that has an effect. Failing that I'll do the hard reset and try again. Failing that then I'll take it back to the shop and see what they have to say, which would be a shame.

                      Thanks again,
                      Brendan

                        hi fotonutz,

tried out Pocket DVD wizard, it's cool to have DVD movies in the memory card. especially watching it thru landscape screen it's even exciting. but only problem is, the battery can't take it so long. unless have a spare battery.

encoding took me around 1 & half hrs. =)

                          Hi Moz,

so far i didn't encounter such a problem.usually it's the network problem or the SIM card. try the auto configure in 'programs' and set to ur current network. after that try out again.

                            Hi Brendan,

The manual is wrong bout the power button. The power button works like this:
                            1. press and hold 2 sec, on or off the screen backlight.
                            2. press with no hold, direct switch on or off the device, but not the phone. u can only turn off the phone by turn on flight mode when u tap the signal indication icon.

don't know what type of crashing u experienced while the device is turned off. need more details on that. phone not working, well, use the auto configure in the 'programs' but do not choose default or else few of the functions u have to configure manually after auto configured, which takes u a very long time. Choose the network which u r using now.

before doing all mentioned above, i suggest u do a full/hard reset to let the PPC run back in default settings. also, if u can't solve some of the problems, read thru the opinions from Fotonutz, he got lotsa solution in previous sessions.

                            cheers.

Is anyone else having problems with the power button.

The manual says you can turn the entire phone/device/everything off by holding the power button down for 2 seconds. It doesn't work on my Mini.

I've also noticed that the phone seems to be crashing when the device is turned off, and I'm forced to soft reset to get back in as the power button doesn't work. Whe this happens the phone still seems to be going as the green light is flashing, but I've tried calling my number and it doesn't answer.

                              Any ideas?

My initial thought is that I've a faulty handset and that I need to take it back, which would be a shame as I'm really happy with the rest of it.

Cheers to any who can help,
                              Regards, Brendan

Well, that's the good thing about the Pocket DVD thingy....it allows you to specify the size of your storage media. So, if you have a 128 or 256MB SD card, just specify the quality and the size will be adjusted automatically to fit into your SD card. Normally, I would encode mine to about 230MB leaving about 10MB for the free Betaplayer to run on the SD card too. At that resolution, the results are stunning. Tried encoding it to 100MB, but video quality is not acceptable.

Just need to purchase Pocket DVD Wizard or Studio from the net and you can encode all your home DVDs into your SD card. The only software you need is freeware version of Betaplayer (to playback AVI) or the native WMP10 if you are encoding it into WMV. For those who haven't tried the two DVD conversion software, you should try it...The clarity is relatively good even though it is compressed into 320 X 240 resolution.

But, the time taken to encode the video based on my preferred settings is about 1:1, ie 2hrs:2hrs encoding time. If you are not fussy about clarity, then the time can be halved or even less.

Busy helping wife to encode DVD movies for her office function.

Also busy encoding movies for my Mini :-)
Was also looking around for the silicon 'fondom' for the Mini and the 4-in-1 stylus(laser pointer, torchlight, stylus and pen) from SLS, but couldn't find any. Guess I have to order from DOML.

So, you guys managed to suss out all the nitty-gritty issues with the Mini yet?
