      Hi Fotonutz,

Every time i come to this site i find something new for my Mini. Really appreciate your excellent advice and help for the rest of us.

Just a short question to ask you, hope you can help. Do you happen to know how much is the 1GB SD card selling in Sim Lim Square?

Yup. installed it on my Mini and it works like a charm. No problems so far.

If you've just gotten your Mini, you should experiment it to the fullest (personal opinion).

Afterall, if you screw up the Mini, it is still within the warranty period. Hehe... That's why I really abused my Mini and it has gone thru "hell" with me, the madman, installing whatever crab I can download from the net. So, whenever something screws up, I just perform a hard reset and everything is back to normal. After that, just restore whatever data you have inside and it is as good as new. The Mini is definitely better than my Motorola E680 !

Yup, the patch will allow you to select any MP3, midi, wav files from ANY FOLDER and assign it as your ringtone. No need to specifically put it inside \Windows or Windows\ring.

However, SMS alerts will still be wav files *sigh*.
But at least this dispenses with the need to put the audio files within a fixed directory. With this patch, it simplifies the assignment of ringtones.
            Try it !

Fotonutz, do u mean that by putting the patch into the windows folder u can choose the ring tone from the storage card ?? if so this will save some place in the ROM i belive coz my mini is loaded with progz hahaha which turns out to lag the mini abit if this works i will try to do it but will this work for the sms tones as well ?

I believe there are a lot of people who are interested in using MP3 as their ringtones. However, as Mini Mania has mentioned, you need to drag the file into Windows\ring in order for it to work.
Now, there is a patch that allows you to select your MP3 files from the File Explorer, hold on to the filename and SET AS RINGTONE becomes an option.
This is definitely a lot easier.

Copy the CAB file into \windows\program or any other folder, click on it and it will patch the Mini for you. Even though it says you need to do a soft reset, I realise there is no need to do so.

To all who are concerned about the camera quality, it really shuckz !!

However, imho, all the other good aspects of this phone makes up for the lousy quality of the camera. Basically, I don't think I will actually use a 1.3MP camera to take photos. I have a dedicated camera for this purpose and I presume everyone else also have a digital or film camera which provides a far better resolution than any camera phone can offer.
So, don't worry too much about the quality of the image and buy this phone if it meets your requirements.
Even if you try to upgrade the camera's firmware, the difference isn't noticeable.

You really need to put in some post-processing effort in order for the photos to be acceptable for prints. If it is just for casual viewing, it is relatively ok.

Seriously, I found the camera quality is bad. It is not 1.3MP quality but 0.3MP only. But others are ok...
So, can anyone answer me the ringtone can be MP3 sound??

                                Hi Mini Mania

Like your set, if I press the power button for 2 sec, it turns off the backlight, but if I press and let go, the screen goes blank, I presume holding the button for 2 sec merely turns off/on the backlight

The SDIO Wifi card works on the Mini. But make sure you buy the version that has a 256MB memory built-in. One word of caution. The drivers and application for the SD card HAS TO BE INSTALLED INTO THE PHONE MEMORY and not the SD card. Therefore, this severely limits the amount of memory you have left on the phone. As it occupies another slot, you can't surf and save the webpages for offline reading later on. So, it makes sense to buy the SDIO Wifi with a built-in 256MB memory.
VPN tunnelling over a fixed IP situation should not pose a problem. However, the only thing is whether you have the necessary applications to authenticate yourself into the office server. If yes, that should not be a problem either.

Agree with Jeffrey that the quality of the camera suckz.....

Apart from that, the Mini is a relatively capable phone/pda.

                                      Hi Mini Mania
Glad to know you got the Mini !!!
U can try to download the Flash player from Macromedia.com. They have a flash plug-in for Pocket PCs and it is a really small file. Yup, the Windows/Ring folder is the default folder if you wanna store MP3 there as ring tones, however, this eats into your memory space. Therefore, I won't wanna do that. To turn off the phone, just press and hold the power button...it works on my set. Maybe yours is faulty?? Hehehehe....

Frederic, you can download the online instruction, manuals, games, ringtones from www.myxda.com, www.clubimate.com
If you wanna download programs, goto www.handango.com or pocketgear.com. You can download the trial programs there before deciding to buy it or not.
www.xda-developers.com is also another good site.
