I got the T-mobile(Germany) version of this phone, the MDA III. It looks pretty good but overall, I got almost all the problems written in the opinion board. Such a pity. This phone have the looks and performance, but with all due respect the manufacturer really2 have to improve the reliability or else they're going to loose their market to those smart phone with better reliability such as the Sony Ericsson P910i or Nokia Communicator.

Thomas, dont be so judgemental...read the POSTS!
YOU WILL GET ISSUES WITH YOUR PHONE. IT WILL HANG MORE AND MORE... AND IT WILL DO THINGS THAT WILL TOTALLY INCONVENIENCE YOU...just give t time :) My best advice to anyone who gets this phones....keep it simple...geta BIG SD card and use it for your data. GET A GOOD Backup utility (You will need it)...and dont over stress the phoen by laoding loads of Applications it really hates that...and hangs!
This is a great CONCEPT phone...but should not be used for business.

This is an excellent device. It's not without flaws, but then the perfect phone does not exist yet in my opinion. There are some very ill-informed opinions on this site about this phone. Yes, you can add attachments to emails - it's a complete no brainer. No, it doesn't hang all the time. I've only had to reboot once. If you have an ounce of patience and common sense and want a good all round PDA/Windows Smartphone then get this. It does everything I want it to do and then some.

My XDAIIs has been back 4 times due to dodgy speakers.
Oh, plus two others that I broke when I sat on one and got the other wet (very wet - fizzle!)
Then I had a free upgrade to compensate. Upgraded to an XDA Exec. Fantastic bit of kit and then;
Today my XDA Exec locked up.
I thinks it's terminaly ill!
O2 have offered me a new replacement in 3 to 5 days.
Not happy - use phone for business!

Great bit of kit but o2 software makes it slow and with o2 software on you cant turn of the phone properly. To remove the o2 software press reset and power then when its about to install the software after configuring the basic settings pull out the battery next time you turn it on it will only have the proper windows software on and it works really fast and I havnt had any problems for 4 months now.

I have the Orange version of this phone. It's calld the SPV M2000.
Great concept...poor execution.
When I first got this phone it worked well...for a while. Then it started to freeze up...sometimes the phone would ring and when you touched the screen or the answer button nothing would happen!!! The freezing happens a lot...If you call a number, which happens to be engaged, the phone simply informs you "busy" and hangs up...WTF? What happened to auto redial? I have a 1GB SD card in this phone...I run TOMTOM Nav 5 on it and (for peace of mind) Sprite Backup....believe me you WILL need this software if you value your data!
I occasionally perform VPN coonections on via WiFi or GPRS and use the camera.
All the above work...but NOT consistantly...I usaually have to soft reset this phone at least once a day...rediculous!
The battery life is laughable...luckly I keep it charged up in the car but still need two batteries to get me though a busy day.
This is the fourth phone that I have had from Orange...the last three all had various problems like the speaker stopped working...the phone would HARD reset on a full battery...the mic stopped working...etc.
I'm an IT Consultant and I find this phone a bit of handful at the best of times. It's big and heavy and you need clown pockets if you hate using the provided belt clip.
I would not reccomend this phone to anyone based on my experience using it. I have nearly lost work because of it's poor performance. Be warned.

There are so many software that u use with this phone. It is just the matter of what kind of software u need. U can not install all of them because it gonna slow down ur phone. U can install UPS software and buy bluetooth receiver. The phone will act as a street directory. It can talk and show u all the speed camera and red light camera. Pocket earth is one of the good software. It tells u the weather and many thing. MS money for pocket PC for business men on a go. Financial Planner software. Cash organiser. many many more. Just think this way. It is a mini laptop. Whatever software compatible with computer. there should be some for this Pocket PC.

Mo,
Thanks for the comment however I have friends with the same xda as mine and all 3 of us have the same problem that the phone doesnt turn on with a tap after its gone down for 40 seconds or so. Before that it does when you tap the screen, and your suggestion re settings makes no difference.
As for the functionality as you describe them, sure no problem there, but as per your own comment, why did O2 put all that functionality into a phone knowing the processor and RAM were inadequate. Shutting down running applications is a normal thing to do sure, but it doesnt help the how slow the phone takes to function.
I have read in this same site criticisms about the Executive model that are no different to mine about how slow the processor is and this is a new model with larger RAM and faster processor.
As I said after updating the OS it didnt make a difference, my other buddies with the phone after I showed them your comment are of the same opinion, have you used one for as long as we have, i.e. since release?
Anyway now I have a Nokia N90 and use the OS as a pure PDA, unfortunately meaning I am back to 2 pieces of equipment which I paid a lot of money for the O2 to get away from. Yes my fault I shouldnt have believed the advertising.
