Hi , I have an xda 11i which is rubbish, keeps crashing, only works some times on blue tooth and most importantly wont voice dial through blue tooth connection so I can't use it in the car, Does the xda orbit allow voice dial (even just a few selected numbers) through a blue tooth head set? and has any one had any problems with crashing?

      J.,
Dead right about the XDA IIs. Utter crap. Unreliable. Great as a PDA - MSM is good and WiFi and Bluetooth a bit wobbly (couldn't get a good setup with earpiece without having to reset every time)....
Word, Excel, .pdf / powerpoint viewers etc. ALL good. But as a phone......?
BLOODY UNRELIABLE!! and therefore worse than useless as you have no way of knowing it's not receiving - without picking it up and examining it.

I just couldn't wait until my contract expired and I could shop for something alse. The Sony/Ericsson P990i took my eye but found it to be too fiddly. It lasted a week. Eventually went for the XDA Orbit.

[However... with a bit of jiggery-pokery the XDAIIs can be made to behave. You need to update the ROM to the latest version from the O2 website and (preferably install as 'Corporate' - so I'm advised.) Also download and install 'tweaks2k' from pocketgear.com or the handango site.

A rather nice chap (Gavin) from the webdevelopers site advised me to do this and eased months of godawful frustration with the XDA kit.]

Re. XDA Orbit: Yes, Yes! YES!!
Although the memory is much smaller and no longer has easily swappable expansion card, WindowsMobile 5 appears to have addressed the unreliability issues -AND I can finally get Yahoo webmails and IMs :0)

-Still fighting with the Copilot SatNav tho' - can't get it to configure at all!

Just a new to O2 Orbit, everything is fine, but there is a problem. I can connect to my home wireless network but can't open the web pages. The error message shows "The page cannot be find. Check the name and try again." Is there any setting I have to amend before I try to access internet or MSN with wireless network not GPRS? Any friend could help me? Or my phone is broken?

We have been running XDA IIs' and XDA Execs in our office. these are great as PDA's and for synchronising with an Exchange server, but as PHONES they are totally rubbish. Despite firmware and software upgrades as advised by O2 tech they all drop calls continuously. We are going to change phones in the next couple of weeks because of this, and I am wondering if the issues have been addressed/fixed with the XDA Orbit. It looks great, but if the phone is crap, it just wont cut it with our senior management!

Can somone reassure me or at least be honest wioth me about the PHONE performance? I know that the PDA functions and Satnav are great, but does it work as a PHONE?

feedback would be extremely welcome on this!

            Cheers,

            J

I just bought the XDA Orbit and you can get a small addapter so that you can use your 3.5 headphones of your own choice. I love this thing. I had the xda IIi befor this and would not change this phone untill they came out with a smaller and better phone and now its here with the orbit!!!

Regarding the question on whether or not there is a charge for using the satnav: the answer is NO. The satnav operates using the built in 'GPS' in the device. This does not cost anything.

The only charge would be if you were to update the satellite positions using the 'GPRS' from the handset, this is totally unneccesary as you can download this data when synchronised to a PC (connected to the internet) from the cable supplied.
The phone is setup to do this automatically but first time round you will need to do this manually:
Connect your handset to a computer with the USB cable supplied, go to 'Quick GPS' and click the dowload button. Thats all there is to it. Each time you connect after that the satellite info will download automatically. (The satellite info needs to be updated at least every 3 days)

                  Hope this helps.

For all those who are trying to decide whether or not to get the phone, get it, NOW. It's great. The supplied Copilot 6 satnav is fantastic.

My only gripe is that I can't use my decent headphones (with a standard 3.5mm audio jack)as the Orbit has no 3.5mm (or 2.5mm) audio fitting.
It confines you to its headset, with mini USB fitting.
Also means you can't listen and charge from a supplementary battery pack at the same time.
I purchased a mini USB to 3.5mm adaptor from U.S. for a motorola phone, but it doesn't work.
If anyone has found a solution (and supplier)that permits the use of decent headphones with the MP3 player and maybe even the built in radio - can they let me know.
O2 have been unable to help - both those online and in several shops...!

no problems with the orbit,a pleasure to use.
only downside is the copilot6 software will
not load onto my computer....suppliers have no answer...anyone out there with fresh ideas.

I have a quick question which i am sure is not a great one. Regarding the use of this device for sat nav, using the Tom Tom or other software, does it carry any cost? ie per minute or per use etc. thanks in advance!!

Make sure in your Tomtom GPR settings the GPS device is set to other, and on COMM 4
