It's official: Moto Edge 50 is the slimmest MIL-STD-810H phone, launching on Aug 1
Despite there being three Motorola Edge 50 variants already out, there still isn’t a vanilla model. That is changing next week as Motorola India and Flipkart will be introducing the Motorola Edge 50.
The phone will launch on August 1 (next Thursday) and it will be available on Motorola’s own online store, Flipkart and leading retailers in the country. Flipkart’s landing page offers a glimpse at what the phone is like.
The front of the Moto Edge 50 has a curved 6.67” P-OLED display. The resolution is listed as “1.5K”, presumably the same or very close to the 1,220 x 2,712 pixels of the Fusion. It’s a 10-bit panel with 100% DCI-P3 coverage and it can hit 1,900 nits brightness. There is a fingerprint reader built inside too.
The phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, which is a step back from the 7s Gen 2 found inside the Edge 50 Fusion. The 7 Gen 1 was previously used on the Razr 40 foldable. The chipset will be paired with 256GB storage and a vapor chamber to keep it cool.
Motorola is promising 3 years of OS updates for the Edge 50 along with four years of security patches.
The 5,000mAh battery will support both 68W fast wired charging and 15W wireless. That’s a step up from the Fusion, which lacks wireless. And that’s not the only upgrade either.
The main camera will use the Sony Lytia 700C, a 50MP 1/1.56” sensor that is also found in the Fusion. However, this model is also equipped with a 10MP telephoto camera with “30x zoom”, which we assume means 3x optical. There’s also a 13MP 120° ultra wide camera, which appears capable of macro shots. Finally, a 32MP selfie camera.
Motorola dubs this the “world’s slimmest MIL-STD-810H military grade certified” phone, though we’re yet to see the thickness. It has been tested against drops, vibration, extreme temperatures (both high and low) and salt fog. It is also rated IP68 and has a metal frame (there's no word on the glass just yet).
The Motorola Edge 50 is coming in three colors. Two have a vegan leather back (Jungle Green and Pantone Peach Fuzz) and one has vegan suede (Koala Grey).
