OnePlus 13 under-display FP scanner is made by Goodix
OnePlus 13 just debuted with a new 6.82" display by BOE. The panel has an under-display fingerprint scanner underneath, and we learned it is a new ultrasonic solution made by Goodix.
According to a company executive, the sensor is both faster and safer, thanks to innovative architecture and wafer-level acoustic layer processing.
The ultrasonic fingerprint scanner by Goodix allows unlocking the phone with wet or dirty fingers. It is a company that is already supplying companies like Samsung, Google, Xiaomi, vivo, and Oppo. The latest sensor is also available in recently announced phones like Xiaomi 15 and iQOO 13, as well as a bit older flagships like vivo X100 Ultra, X200 Pro, and iOQO Neo9s Pro+.
The ultrasonic scanner uses sound waves to capture a detailed 3D map of the fingerprint. It emits an ultrasonic pulse, which bounces back from the finger to create a high-res depth-based image of the fingerprint. It is a more secure option but is more expensive, and that's why we have seen it primarily in flagships.
The optical sensor is the cheaper solution for UD scanners. It simply captures a 2D image of the fingerprint, and when the interface demands lifting and putting your finger multiple times, it creates a database of images linked to the same finger.
