Fast and responsive octa core 2.45 ghz processor with no lag. No heating problem even with a continuous use of 5 hrs. Battery life is superb. With low use can easily go for 2 days. For heavy users it can support complete one day. Dash charge works efficiently charging 0 to 50% in 30 min and full charging in 1 hr. I was a Samsung user till date but OP5 has surpassed all my past experience. Only minus is it doesn't have a memory card slot or even a hybrid slot. I couldn't use my MMC. Second minus is it doesn't provide earphones in the box. Negative for music lovers. Leaving this aspect OP5 scores on all ftont. Both the Cameras are awesome with very good picture quality and function. It is surely a kill for apple i phone for those who are Android lovers.

scribe, 05 Oct 2017For assorted reasons I decided to leave the iPhone. I looke... moreThe OnePlus 5 is not the best. It is, however, arguably the best for the price. Though at 500 EUR ($585 US) the latest OP is no longer midrange in price.

This phone is a handsdown winner for it's pricing and specs.
If not for the lack of SD card slot, I would not have hesitated to upgrade my phone to this.

            Pros:my honest review
            1- Conventional but brilliant design
            2- Latest hardware and software
            3- Buttery smooth UI
            4- Excellent customisability
            5- Excellent speaker
            6- Great battery
            7- Sharp screen
8- Snappy and high quality camera

            Cons:

1- Slightly on the higher side in terms of price for a OnePlus
2- Conventional design: Next time they won't have the iPhone design route to exploit.

Monty g, 04 Oct 2017Hi...i had iPhone 5 since 2 years.but i want to upgrade my ... moreFor assorted reasons I decided to leave the iPhone. I looked at all the Android options and settled on the OnePlus 5 as the best. I've had it for a week now and I prefer it to my iPhone 7 or the just released 8/8X. It's really nice and a lot more useful.

AnonD-684709, 05 Oct 2017I'd rather say it's you who is insane :P Fanboys are alway... morelol I AM the fanboy here? roflmao. trolls are gonna troll.

you are saying your Mate 9 has a Better screen than Samsung Galasy S7 Edge? Rolfmao man..... just because is bigger doesnt mean better screen just that, bigger but quality is another thing and Mate 9 has no better screen than Oneplus 5, let alone Samsung S7 Edge.

your Battery is better than Oneplus 5 and EVEN better than the one on the S7 EDGE? rolfmao dude I bet you don't even had S7 EDGE, my fiance has and the battery is insane in that phone! again all you have to do is look it up online in probadly ALL websites and see battery test and you will find that the 4000 Battery on the Mate 9 doesnt last ANY LONGER than the "Tiny" 3300 Battery on the Oneplus 5 and much less than the 3600(this is the RIGHT battery the s7 EDGE has) the S7 Edge carries. it's Call optimization, please look it up! a well optimize 2000 mAh Battery can last longer than a crappily optimize 400mAh Battery any day no matter the usage. and again I beg you to look it up, it's ALL over the internet, if your S7 Edge(if you really had it) lasted much less than your Mate 9, Im guessing you either got rip off or didnt even notice the malfuntion.

again Camera really? Im not even gonna go into details all Im gonna say is that Oneplus 5 Camera has MANY test online and in all of them it beats Mate 9 sorry pal try another thing,

now the "Swaping SDs" argument is plain....... silly(to not say another word) but if it works for you to carry another SD around all the time so that you may have 400GB of Photos(acording you) and swap them depending all your need all the time, well I will give you this one, good for your and Mate 9

So all in all, Im no fanboy, the CLEAR fanboy here is you, who came to another phones post to claim this one sux and yours is a million times better just because you decide it is, I at least am basing my claims with reviews of a lot of well known reviewers online not just biased on hate and thinking "my is supirior, this one is bad" like you.

again I didnt say Mate 9 is a bad phone, one of the things I love about android is the flexibility of Brand, Models and color it offers, there is one right suited for anyone and their needs. If the guy that asked which is better picks Mate 9, good for him and I hope it delivers in every field he is hoping it will, all I said is in which Fields Oneplus 5 is CLEARLY better than Mate 9, and still Mate 9 would be a good for almost anyone, specially on a tight budget. peace, and I recommend you watch and read other sites and listen to others and don't get stuck on your believes alone ;)

phone is super fast. Boots up quick. I bought this for my wife. Though the camera positioning is similar to iPhone, it is different in the looks. Clicks multiple pictures very fast. There is absolutely no time lag when I tried to click the next shot. I tried taking photos in a water fall, the phone got fully wet though it worked without any issues till now.

Amazing phone..Awesome camera...make sure to do some settings inorder to increase battery life.

Monty g, 04 Oct 2017Hi...i had iPhone 5 since 2 years.but i want to upgrade my ... moreIt's simple. If you like Android, then it's One Plus 5, or Mi6 which dimension not to different from 4,7" iPhone and cheaper. But if you like IOS, then it's iPhone 7 plus or above. But I guess your option is limited to budget. If it so, Android it's your option which more affordable and lot of options.

Kanon182, 04 Oct 2017dude really? are you insane? wow is amazing how "hate" or "... moreI'd rather say it's you who is insane :P
Fanboys are always the most insane.

The only thing that's really laughable here is that you only saw a few random YouTube videos on the Mate 9, and already think you know everything about it. Pathetic.

Screen size from 5.5" to 6" is a *huge* difference. I've been using a S7 edge for a long time, a 5.5" device, and when I switched to the Mate 9, the bigger screen size really had a huge impact, and I absolutely wouldn't want anything less than 6" anymore.

Likewise, the battery difference between the tiny 3300 mAh in the OP5 and the 4000 mAh in the Mate 9 is a *huge* difference. My S7 edge had a 3500 mAh battery, which is even bigger than the one in the OP5, but it was still very disappointing. As a heavy user, especially of Pokemon GO, the battery killer No. 1, it never lasted me through the day, and I always had to bring along a battery pack. When I switched to the Mate 9 with its bigger 4000 mAh battery, my battery pack suddenly became obsolete. I haven't needed it once anymore since.

Now, the camera. I like to take a lot of photos, and the Leica camera has never disappointed me there, it always delivers a good performance. I've recently compared the photo quality with a friend who has a OP5, and the Leica camera in the Mate 9 generally takes better photos than the willy-nilly camera in the OP5, which e.g. has a noise problem, especially in low light. You can use the photo comparison tool on this site to see how the Leica camera in the Mate 9 kicks the OP5 camera deftly in the nuts, especially in Low Light conditions, where the OP5 camera follows the "Bring the noise!" motto.
                        Here's a screenshot as proof:
                        http://abload.de/image.php?img=op5-mate9-gsmarenar2l03.png

Finally, the expandable memory. As I said, I like to take a lot of photos, so the memory tends to quickly fill up. I wouldn't want to be forced to clean up the internal memory all the frigging time, that would be a major nuisance. Instead, I just swap out the SD card, and sort the photos whenever I find the time. I wouldn't want to miss this convenience, so I wouldn't ever touch a smartphone without SD card slot - where the only reason for the missing SD card slot is that the manufacturer wants to rip you off by forcing you to buy a version with more internal memory. Be it One Plus, Apple or whoever else uses that extortion practice.

So, to MH Asif: if you can live with a smaller, less comfortable screen, a tiny battery with poor battery life, a camera that follows the "Bring the Noise!" motto especially in Low Light and a non-expandable storage which you have to clean out all the time, and at the same time pay more for all these disadvantages... please, go ahead.

AnonD-705493, 04 Oct 2017Kanon, I read your entire thread and I would like to share ... moreOk let me start by saying I in NO WAY said Mate 9 is a bad phone, I don't have that phone but have watched a couple of videos of my prefer Reviewers on Youtube and I know what that phone is capable, I was talking to the guy that said Mate 9 is better than Oneplus because of a lot of laughable reasons IMO, the screen size is a matter a preference as you stated, but the difference between 6" and 5.5" isnt that big of a deal IMO to begin with, I come from a 5" Phone so It took a while for me to get use to this phone and I think this is the perfect size for me at least, I woundt want a bigger phone in where using it single handed would become more difficult but of course that may change in time.
about he IR Blaster I know all the "Goodies" It offers, I come from HTC Family and my phone also had IR Blaster, Do I miss it? Yes! Is it a Deal breaker? not in a million years, I wouldnt brag about having it, but again that's me.
About the Battery I myself consider a Heavy user, I use my phone for gaming alone for about 4 to 5 hours daily sometimes more sometimes less of course, the rest of the time is either in Standby Mode while I sleep or i'm in social media or talking to someone. but From the 24 hours a Day has, I use it for about 12 to 14 of those hours. and I still get a full day from a single Charge, Normally I Charge it at night around 8pm, while I'm finishing playing and about to go to sleep, I don't have to Charge it again until the very same time next day and I still have between 15 to 25% of battery left in most cases.
I think the same as you regarding Storage, I would be more than happy with 64GB of ram on a phone, I got the 128GB version and 8GBs of Ram because I wanted to future proof it, I have TONS of videos, music and games and all the storage and currently using is about 45Gbs and I doubt I will ever fill this phone.

I DO THINK the Oneplus 5 is Ahead of Mate 9, because is a year older, Snapdragon 835 is an amazing Chipset but that's my opinion and even if it is indeed ahead it wouldnt matter much because must phone lately come with the specs so that they dont lag easly.

again I do think Mate 9 is a good for whoever thinks it will fit their needs, in fact the beuty of Android is that! that you can choose between MANY brands, Colors, and Models and fit your needs and budget, while on Apple you stuck with that years model, I love that we have the option to pick from MANY brands and models, Before I bough this phone I did a LOT of research, I wanted something NEW(2017) and that would last me AT LEAST for 3 years and in a good price, I was interested in LG G6(Discarded this one because of the old specs despite being a 2017 Flagship), HTC U11 and Samsung S8 and I discarded those last 2 because of my budget, I risked going for a "unknown" Brand such a Oneplus but I did so after I watched and read a lot about the phone and I couldnt be happier with it.

So my advice to the guy that asked which is better is, dont listen to anyone that saids "This phones sucks, XXX Phone is much better because of this and that" I suggest you read a lil about the phones you find appealing to you and fit your needs and budget and you will decide pretty quick.

Kanon182, 04 Oct 2017dude really? are you insane? wow is amazing how "hate" or "... moreKanon, I read your entire thread and I would like to share my insight as well on both options under discussion.

I have been using Mate 9 for the past 10 months now. I am one of those people who like to stay up to date with every new model that gets launched in the market and that claims to provide something ahead of other option available to a customer. Since I have purchased Mate 9, I believe this investment so far has proved to be one of the best. We have some new giants in the market now of Samsung but not for once I considered switching to any device.

It's a competitive market and each company strives to stay ahead of their competitors by introducing one or more unique features, which most of the times are not even useful, but just a symbol of attraction for the customers. recent examples would be Iris scanner or face recognition features. Honestly, does their absence in our phones make any difference ?

I believe, those features in a phone stand out that can be incorporated as a part of our normal routine. You kind of mocked the preference of IR blaster in a phone. Well, this is a very handy feature for a lot of reasons. It provides the user with an option in case the actual devices for connectivity are not available. It's a very practical feature of a phone but nonetheless its usage is not among a bigger percentage but having said that, it cannot be denied that it does provide comfort in a lot many ways. Jack of all trades kind of device.

Mate 9's 4000 mAh battery does provide a good talk time and stand by too. I charge my phone once a day or sometimes I charge it the next day. I use Data/WiFi throughout the day and it still provides me hassle free charge. Fast charge is one among the noticeable features of high range phones but even then every phone does not provide it the way it claims. This phone too takes 75 mins to give a full charge. I have never for once faced any heat up on this phone while on charge.

Screen size is again a matter of choice and preference, like I am not comfortable with smaller screens.

Camera Quality: this is again a feature almost everyone looks up to. Everyone brand uses a different lens, changes the aperture options, and the availability of pro feature. Using a camera in itself a skill and one needs to know how he can play with ISO, saturation, modes etc. And I think every mobile phone company portrays that it has provided best camera features one could look for.

Oneplus is undoubtedly a very solid brand and it's the pioneer of developing a device that was low in price but was no less than any flagship device on the market. I used Oneplus One for almost 2 years. I switched to 3T and I could not stand it for more than 02 days as it was a complete disappointment.

Oneplus 5 bags in 8GB RAM with 128 GB of internal storage. Expanded RAM, sounds great but 128 GB storage ? I think 64 GB is good enough especially if you are in a habit to regularly clean your phone's cache and other Junk and also don't hoard unnecessary files on your phone.

In nutshell, it all comes down to one's preference and likeness. There is no single phone on the market which can be called to be a dream come true sort of device. If one phone has 02 good features then it might be lacking in 01 or 02 more. There's very tough competition in the market and every company is striving to attract as much market share as possible. Quality is being compromised in one way or the other.

Being a user of Mate 9, I can confidently say that it is a very good investment because of the features that it provides. Performance quality is only developing and not going down no matter how many applications are installed or how heavy the usage is. No lag for once up til date. Oneplus 5 has its own merits but it by no means stay ahead of Mate 9. But, yes, only when it comes to price range.

Camera quality is impressive, even in low light. Mind-boggling performance. The phone is very sleek, but slippery. Very light weight, No hearing issue and oxygen OS is very smooth and many things can be customised. Worth for the money.

AnonD-684709, 04 Oct 2017Definitely Mate 9, it's much better! Bigger screen, better... moredude really? are you insane? wow is amazing how "hate" or "envy" works.. if you don't like Oneplus 5 that's ok but at least be real on your comments to someone who's asking for "clear" directions not your opinion!

in General Oneplus 5 is MUCH MUCH better of a phone than Huawei Mate 9 but there are things you have to consider first.

to Begin the things in which Huwai Mate 9 Beats Oneplus 5 are,
-Price as you stated but that of course is a given taking into cosideration is a year old phone againts a 2017 phone.
-Storage, i have said it before(although is my opinion and I know this) the 128GB storage and 8GB of Ram version of Oneplus 5 is the best option and 128GB should be more than enough for the VAST majority of smartphone users out there, but if you are one of those that can't get enough space, then having the option to expand the memory with a 256GB memory SD is the winner here no doubt despite the slow reading/writing times.
-Screen, but size ONLY! when it comes to quality Oneplus 5 has a MUCH BETTER screen and you can see many videos of this online, the only thing better is the size which isnt really a big avantage againts a clearer 5.5´ Amoled Screen
-Ir Blaster, Really? we are in 2017 who still use these things? and what for? controling your Tv? if it's a Smart TV(Again we are in 2017) you can control it with almost any smartphone and you could also use those device call "Control Remote" for that as well ¬_ ¬
                                        and thats it

now on the Oneplus 5 over the Mate 9 we have.
Performance, saying that Kirin 960 is Better than snapdragon 835 is laughable on so many level, despite the "cheat" oneplus did on the bentchmark you can still fine many uncheated bentchmarks in where Oneplus 5 or any Snapdragon 835 smartphone for that matter DESTROYS Kirin 960, and dont get me start it on the Mali againts Adreno. also 8GBs of Ram is MUCH smarter than 4 GBs of Ram specially when phones get outdate it pretty quickly lately, with the 8Gbs of Ram version you are future proofing.

Camera, Again Really? Mate 9 is better because of OIS? lol man be serious, you can see many samples out there including DXOMark Test in which Oneplus 5 is a much better a sharper camera than Mate 9.

Battery, one last time REALLY? you clearly know nothing of smartphones if you think just having a Bigger Baterry equals a longer time between chargers, you can find a lot a Battery test out there(Including GSMArena's one) and in all of them Oneplus 5 Last longer on a single full charge than mate 9s, it's called optimization and Snapdragon 835 is a Beast in this field.

A couple of extras that take the Oneplus further ahead of Mate 9, Fingerprint scanne on the Oneplus 5 is INSANE. just look it up. Dash Charging is also INSANE!!! from 1% to 100% in about 70 Minutes WHILE you are still using the phone while it charges is unveliable and is also worth mentioning ABSOLUTELY NO HEAT ON THE PHONE! No matter if you are gaming or watching videos it doesnt matter. Near stock Android experience, I used Nexus 4 for a few years and I love having stock Android, then I went to HTC one M9 and Hated all the blootware and that stuff, now that I am with a Oneplus 5 I couldnt be Happier with the way the phone behaves.
Oneplus 5 is MUCH lighter than Mate 9, I for one hate heavy phones but that may be just me.

all in all Oneplus 5 is a MUCH BETTER phone all around than Mate 9, but that doesnt mean Mate 9 is a bad phone, if you thinkg the things it offer will suffice you specially the lower price tag(the difference in price it's not that big IMO) then go for the Mate 9.

if not, I recommend blindly the Oneplus 5 128GB/8GB Ram edition.
