Final thoughts

The OnePlus 7T Pro may be the smallest upgrade to date, and it surely not worth upgrading over the 7 Pro. That said, the 7T Pro is still one of the best smartphones money can get you today. It is one of the few devices with a high-refresh-rate screen, the latest Snapdragon is inside, and a triple-camera that offers exceptional performance.

The OnePlus 7T Pro is much more, of course. In addition to the Fluid AMOLED and fast performance, the maker offers excellent presentation across the board - beautiful design, long-lasting battery life with fast charging, impressively loud stereo speakers, and the fingerprint sensor is among the best we've seen.

OnePlus 7T Pro won't be the flagship it is without the buttery smooth Oxygen OS 10. Having a 90Hz helps the launcher, but even at 60Hz - Oxygen is by far the lightest and most intuitive Android skin we've seen today. You can call us fans, we guess.

OnePlus flagships are not what they used to be when pricing is concerned, but the maker has still managed to keep the price very competitive for the highest tier flagship bracket, and the 7T Pro is priced at €759 - lower than many of the most current headliners. And that's something only a flagship killer can offer, isn't it?

The competition

The Pixel 4 XL should be the first phone to come in mind when thinking OnePlus 7T Pro, as Google is among the few makers to offer a 90Hz refresh rate besides OnePlus. The Pixel 4 XL has a large enough 6.3" OLED screen of similar resolution and refresh rate, one very attractive and IP68-rated body, and a dual-camera everyone is looking to test as Google's phones are famous for being great in this department. The Pixel 4 XL has some gimmicks like Soli radar and Edge Squeeze, but we are more interested in the smooth vanilla experience - something of a match for Oxygen OS. The new XL Pixel costs €900 though and lacks an ultrawide snapper at the back, so we'd say the 7T Pro remains the more competitive phone here.

The Galaxy Note10 can't offer 90Hz display, but its 6.3" Dynamic AMOLED screen is still quite impressive, and the S-Pen is well, unique to the Note. The Note10 costs as much as the 7T Pro, if not less on some markets, and offers slightly faster performance, it is IP68-rated, and has wireless charging support over the 7T Pro. It's definitely a good deal worth considering. The Note10+ does offer a larger 6.8" screen, but it costs about €150 on top of the 7T Pro.

Google Pixel 4 XL • Samsung Galaxy Note10 • Samsung Galaxy Note10+

Huawei P30 Pro is already cheaper than the OnePlus 7T Pro priced at about €620, and if photography is your focus, then you should consider it. It still has a great AMOLED and excellent performance, but it offers longer zoom, better ultrawide camera, and can capture all types of videos with all of its cameras. EMUI is a bit over the top though, and Huawei hurdles in the States are still ongoing, so there are those to consider, too.

The Sony Xperia 5 is priced closely to the OnePlus 7T Pro, and it may not have a 90Hz 1440p screen, but it can still impress with compactness, a rare OLED screen with 21:9 cinematic aspect ratio, and an excellent all-round experience from its triple 12MP rear camera. The Xperia launcher is keeping a low profile too.

Finally, if you don't mind having a notch and you can live with 2x zoom instead of 3x, maybe you want to consider the non-Pro OnePlus 7T. It costs €600, €150 cheaper than the 7T Pro so that you can put an actual price on the cutout and the zoom. The OP 7T is something to consider as those are some serious savings.

The Verdict

The 90Hz domain is slowly starting to populate, but OnePlus is still the first smartphone that comes to mind when we think of a phone with a high-refresh-rate screen. The 7T Pro has a lot more to offer, though - from the OLED quality through the great design and long battery life to the excellent camera skills. And this entire set comes with a very competitive price. OnePlus is still in the the flagship killing business - for at least another smartphone cycle.

The OnePlus 7T Pro gets our warmest recommendation for everyone looking to get a high-end smartphone and a fluid Android experience. Everyone, but the 7 Pro owners - you better wait for the 8 Pro to come out.
